everything's better with robots; closed
Who: Clint Barton, Leo Fitz, and Peter Parker
Where: Clint's shooting range
When: January 10th
Rating: PG
Summary: It's cute that Clint likes to build things out of wood, but we're in the 21st century now and we have robots for that.
The Story:
[Fitz is still mostly unsure that this is something he'd like to support. He's placed a blanket ban on assisting the Avengers since his previous work order system dissolved. There's no point in providing a service to a group of liars and traitors. But Agent Barton seemed to be a lone voice of reason in the lions' den. He's appease the request, if only to give young Parker some practical busywork in his field of interest. This should be more than enough to keep him from poking around in Fitz's Memory or Dimensional projects.
For now, he's out here thinking out loud, occasionally scribbling notes into a pad.]
It's wasteful and dangerous to have people reclaim their own arrows, especially if you're training the particularly unskilled. If we irrigate between lanes, I can configure a power grid to support a retrieval system.
Parker, if you had to choose between travel-time automation and an on-demand user interface, which would be easier for you to handle?

Never done either before but probably the user interface. [He's never done anything like this before. Sure, he's made his own web shooters, repaired whatever was around, understood biological equations that took his father years to put together, but- This is all kinds of new. He's going to have to learn a lot regardless of which he chooses.] Yeah, getting an arrow to the knee while you're trying to get your own arrows would put a big old damper in training time.
This way nobody gets hurt. ...assuming everybody shoots straight. Also, it's really cool. [to have an automatic system like that.]

...unless they were sentient or had feelings but he wasn't about to relive another intron debacle. ]
These are going to be non-coming to life and trying to take over the mansion robots right? Because I'd rather not repeat the last time I had to fight robots, with a bow and arrow.
[ Look there wasn't a lot he could lend to science talk. ]

[That's what the uneducated masses do instead of being productive with their free time, right? They go bowling? He glances back to Parker for confirmation.]

They'll have just the one automatic function programmed in, and it's the main function they're programmed for. They just wouldn't be capable of it.
[Assuming mansion magic doesn't take over them and cause trouble, but that's a possibility with anything. He looks over curious at Clint.] How'd you fight robots with a bow and arrow? [Cause that sounds bad ass]
Sorry! Thought I had this tracked but I didn't D:
So bowling alley arrow retrievers. I can work with that. What about the arrows that don't hit their intended targets and go out if he range?
NEVER BE SORRY we are here for you
[It's half-mumbled, but uttered nonetheless. He looks up at Barton to explain the technical side of things.]
The arrows are already constructed with allows that do not occur naturally in this area. A scouting unit programmed to detect for it isn't likely to do harm.
[He might also be addressing Clint as one might explain numbers to an infant. Really, don't American schools teach anything at all??]
we totally are /gathers up
They'll be able to gather the arrows wherever they go, because they'll detect their trajectory and then follow that trajectory to retrieve the arrow.
So that shouldn't be a problem. Are there any extra functions we can add in? Like... target replacement when those targets have been full up of arrows or destroyed? Not that I'm trying to get ahead of myself.
[Given he's never done anything like this before. Ahem.]
<3<3
Sounds good. Target replacement would be excellent. Whatever you two think would work here, I'm leaving it in your capable hands. [ Also because he has no idea what they can do. ] Go wild.

And you've no other concerns about a potential mechanical uprising?
[Because he's going to recount each and every one to his lab partner later, with full meathead impressions and his best American drawl.]

I'm sure that we've assuaged his concerns plenty if he's giving us free reign. Can't exactly blame someone for being worried about it if that's your primary experience with robots in the past, and you don't exactly know us super well so it's smart to be distrustful.

Would you believe that I do trust you?
[ He also shoots Peter a grin. ] Thanks kid. Just do what you guys think is best. We should make you a target to practice shooting those webs with.
