The Story:

The Hallways - Transfiguration at workNewt had actually missed the announcements many had made, if only for lack of sleep the night before. It was when he opened his door, planning to set out on his day, that he had found himself facing a wall of water when he opened the door. Slamming it closed, he had adapted enough to this time and technology to check those that may have been quicker on the ball than he was.

Thankfully there were, and they had passed on the bad news that not only was the entire place full of water, but apparently what had kept the water out when he opened the door meant he wouldn't have air for long. Considering his options, not to mention his lack of survival preparedness in being so new to Wonderland, Newt knew he would have to leave his room eventually. Not just for air but supplies.

Stripping down to his shorts and tee, he gathered up his wand, took a moment to gather his wits, and stepped out into the hallway, holding his breath against the wall of water.

Treading water as he got his bearings, Newt cast the transfiguration spell, words nothing more than bubbles as he murmured the charm. His body jerked and twisted, churning up the water. His head and neck transformed into that of a bull shark so that no matter if the water was fresh or salt, he would be able to survive.

Keeping the rest of his human form to make carrying things, and opening doors, easier, Newt set off to find supplies, and to see just what was happening to the Mansion, what could possible be done.

Panic and life lost - A hallway somewhere

Somewhere between finding food he might carry in a small sack and swimming through the castle, Newt had learned one thing and not noticed another. There seemed to be no way out, and somewhere along the way, he had lost his wand.

The latter came to him moments after he slipped from an airless room where he had been sleeping, still in human form, and preparing to transfigure himself once more. The bag of food hung heavy on one hand, thrashing about trying to find his wand in the water.

His heart started pounding from holding his breath, oxygen used in his desperate attempt to find his wand. Trying to remember he didn't need it, didn't have to have it, it harnessed the magic but he could do this without it. Dumbledore had taught him that, even if it was harder than wand assisted magic.

Trying to still his mind, to find the focus he needed. His chest hurt, lungs burning as he tried to find the words, the spell, the intent to put into the magic. The last of his air came from him in a burst of bubbles. Newt's head twisted, turned, gills sprouting on the side of his neck.

It was too late though, his consciousness graying out, allowing for no movement for the shark gill slits to process water. The weight of the bag dragged him down to the floor where he was in the hallway, holding him there.

Welcome to Wonderland - Anywhere in the mansion

Newt came to suddenly, panicked, confused. His mind tried to make sense of it all, what had happened to him. It isn't long before he's dressed, out seeking out answers... and more importantly his wand.

Desperately trying to explain what he's looking for as he opens doors, trying to remember where he had been during his transfiguration.

[OOC: let me know if this isn't okay, but Peter's been patrolling the hallways and wouldn't let anybody's body just hang out there so I had to comment in ;o;]

Peter has been swimming through the hallways, trying to save people. He catches sight of the dead body ahead, held to the floor in the hallway, by the weight of the bag. He was- He was too late. It's not like Peter can be everywhere at once, but he's sure trying. It's not the first dead person that he's found during this event, but every time, it hurts. It feels like he's failed them whether or not he's ever met them, and he never fails to callback to the first- the first time he ever saw someone dead. His uncle.

He picks the body up- No, he picks up the person from the hallway. It doesn't feel right to leave anyone out there, and someone else trying to survive might be so scared by the sight, they gasp and take in a rush of water instead of air. And a person's body should be treated with respect whether or not they're still in it.

They come back. In Wonderland, they always come back. He reminds himself of that even as he pulls the stranger into a room along with the bag, which obviously is important too.

He sets the man on the floor, setting the bag beside them and covering them with a blanket. His voice is small, and there's no one to hear it. "Sorry," then leaves the room to try to save someone else.
