Don't cross the river if you can't swim the tide
Who: Mettaton, some closed starters, and YOU!
Where: All around the mansion
When: Throughout the event
Rating: PG-13 unless something happens, upon which this will be changed
Summary: Mettaton is in the no-air-no-problem club, buuut those RESETs are giving him a bit of a run for his money. All well! There’s places to go and things to do, and he’s not gonna let a little water and time shenanigans stop him. …yeah…
The Story:
A.
[It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s…. what the hell is that. A rectangular submarine??? If you’re attempting to swim through the halls, have your door open to stare at the water, or if there is a window in your room to the hallway, you’ll catch sight of this robot in a different form propelling himself through the water. Maybe he’s carrying food in a water-tight container. Maybe he’s transporting someone’s pets or other things that need to be moved. Maybe he’s coming to “save” you! (Save being the operative word, depending on if you actually want to see him… and if he’ll be helpful or not.)
Either way, he’s here now. Or passing by. Wanna say hi?]
B.
Swimming through the mansion can be a bit tiring. Especially with the magic reinforcement that is partially behind his water-proofing, is draining his charge pretty quickly. So here he is, chilling out in some random empty room. Don’t worry, he doesn’t breathe; no air is being lost. Maybe he stumbled into your room or maybe you’re stumbling into whatever room he is relaxing in. Either way, here is a dripping wet robot at your disposal. ;)
C.
[Listen. A lot can happen in 5 minutes, right? I bet even MORE can happen if you repeat the same 5 minutes over and over and over and over and over….
Our lovely robot is stuck in a rather persistent RESET that is determined to make Mettaton repeat the last 5 minutes of his life. Why not keep him company and/or get trapped in it yourself! The world is your resetting oyster now that the water has leaked out of the mansion.]
D.
Wild card! Got an idea for your character and Mettaton? Throw it up here and we can go, ha, wild!
((ooc: while one of these prompts is specific for the resets, any prompt can have them involved if you want! Either indicate it in your subject or put it in your description and we can play around with it!))

[She's... on the ground. When did she get on the ground? She thinks she decided to stop standing a little while ago, maybe, but it's... unclear. Everything seems fuzzy.]
im sorry
i cant
i dont know what to do
1/5??
[He waits for what surely will be a quick and prompt answer!]
2/5
Did you get my text, Alphys?
3/5
[It's been two minutes]
4/5
Alphys???? Alphys, darling, please answer. I'm worried.

He gets up from his bed and paces the room. She could have set her phone down to do something else and didn't want to respond. But the ringing of her device must be making her anxious so she'd want to respond, wouldn't she?
Idly he walks up to his mirror and places a hand on it, not looking at it as he thinks. He doesn't notice writing sprawling across the glass. He's too preoccupied.
He can't shake the thought of her alone on the floor, eyes cloudy and breaths shallow. He shivers. If he had a heart it would be beating a staccato of anxiety.
She could be dying. She could be dead right now and that's it, that's the straw that breaks the camel's back.
Mettaton whips around, his mind a frenzy. I have to get to her he thinks, his eyes darting around the room. He looks to the door but... the water. He's not sure if he can survive it, and even if he can, what if a current pulls him away from her? What if by the time he's done fighting it she's dust, lifeless dust on a floor, something to collect in a jar-
Mettaton faces the wall that separates his room from Alphys's. It's less a coherent thought and more an instinctual action that pushes him to transform, his plates and limbs moving and clicking until he stands in his NEO form.
The cannon is already glowing as he aims and fires. A ball of energy shoots out, blasting into the wall in front of him. Concrete, insulation and bits of wallpaper explode into the air as smoke fills the gap. Mettaton steps through insistently, looking desperately for his best friend.]
Alphys!? Alphys where are you???
[The smoke begins to clear from the makeshift "door" the robot has made, leaving his room completely visible...]

Of course, Mettaton, if he's really looking, can also probably tell she's not breathing. Or at least, hasn't been, because after a few seconds, a large, hacking cough racks her body, and she curls in on herself with a groan.]
What's...
[It's hoarse, and all she can get out until she's coughing again, curling herself into a small ball as her chest tries to take the newly flowing oxygen from Mettaton's room into her lungs.]

Alphys. Alphys, darling, thank goodness you are breathing. I'm sorry, I should have done something earlier, but it's ok, I'll figure out something now.
[His hands linger on her, a physical way to tell himself she's still together. She's still whole. The rush of relief is so intense he shakes a bit, his magic flaring a little.
He doesn't want to lose her. She means so much.]

He... he came. She asked, and he came.
It's making her realize that every time she's come close to dying in Wonderland, he's been there to catch her.]
Th... thank you, Metta. I'm sorry, I...
[She's interrupted by another round of hacking.]
I'm sorry I didn't ask for help s-sooner.

You don't need to apologize. There's never a need to apologize for something like this.
[He leans down, gingerly wrapping his arms around her back and lifting her up into his arms. He puts a hand on the back of her head to support her. She doesn't have to do anything. He's here for her.
The smoke is cleared now and Mettaton looks around the room, seeing the dust from the hole he blasted settling on all of her possessions.]
I'm sorry about your room, darling. We can clean it up when this event is over.
no subject
It's okay, I... I think the Mansion will fix it. Uh. Eventually.
[She really doesn't have much care for that right now. It'll be fine. She's alive, and breathing, and returning to her senses, and that's quite enough.]
I never knew how, uh... airtight these, uhm, r-rooms were.
no subject
Then again, this is Mettaton we're talking about. He doesn't do things by halves.
His room looks clean enough, though a bit dusty thanks to the wall explosion. Not much is out of place except for a full-length mirror that now lies on its side, slightly cracked. It must have fallen over during Mettaton's cannon blast.]
Oh good. I don't want to owe this mansion anything. It already is in debt to me for all of the performances; it doesn't need anything to use as an excuse to wiggle out of it.
[He leans over, blocking her vision of the room at large by fluffing a pillow behind her head.]
Well now you know, and hopefully this will be an informative lesson for the future.

Mirrors don't reform cracked, she thinks. It had to have been standing. And it's entirely possible for a mirror to reform standing, but it should've reformed where it was, which was by the wall, which meant it was there previously. Not hidden, not taken, but--
Visible.
She misses what he says entirely, mind racing, but physically unable to start any kind of fight.
What was he doing...?]
H-Heh. Yeah, I mean... Wonderland physics, and stuff.
[The entire mood has shifted, and she hopes he doesn't notice. Why is that Mirror there? She has to get a better look.]
Do you mind, uhm, g-getting me a glass of water? My throat hurts from all the coughing.
no subject
Oh goodness, Alphys, you're right! I didn't even think of that.
[He looks to the closet automatically but then shakes his head.]
Right, right, the closets don't work right now... hm. Where else could I get water...?
[It takes him a moment to think of it, but then he smiles.]
Right! The bathroom! Goodness I rarely go in there nowadays... let me grab you a cup and get you some.
[He walks to the bathroom easily, slipping the door open and walking to the sink. He has no clue that Alphys suspects anything wrong.]
no subject
On it's side. By the wall. There's a stand, she was right, it's cracked but not damaged. It wouldn't have reformed that way. Even if he kept it shattered, there was no need to have one that big. That's a full-body. That's...
Enough for his Mirror to fit through.
She can feel her SOUL constrict, eyes unblinking as they dart around the area until she hears the faucet shut off and forces herself back down.
This isn't the place for that argument. Not now. But she has to keep this in mind. She needs not to doubt herself. She knows what she saw.
When he approaches again, she holds out her arms towards the glass he's carrying.]
Thanks. Sorry, uh, a-about all this.
no subject
The mirror moves back into place, glaring back at her as she looks around. Mettaton made a mistake by bursting into her room to save her but there's nothing he can do at this point. If he starts writing on the mirror she'll definitely see and that will reveal too much too quickly.
When Mettaton returns he hands the glass of water to Alphys, helping to tip her head up so she doesn't choke when she takes a sip.]
You're welcome, dear. There's no need to apologize. I'm just glad you're safe.
no subject
I'm... g-glad you are, too.
[It doesn't make a lot of sense in-context. But maybe it'll mean something else.]
I, uh... once I'm feeling a little better. Can you help me get over to my lab? I have some things I should, uh, g-get to work on.
[Things for breathing help. And, uh, maybe some notes. About all this.]
no subject
Of course, darling. It's probably best to keep moving anyway, lest this happens again.
[He says it easily but there's a small drop of dread at the thought of her choking alone on a lack of air. He'll have to leave her eventually. he can't stay with her the whole event and... the image is terrifying.]
I'll make sure you get there all right.
[It's the least he can do.]
no subject
Thanks. Really. For now, though, uh... I'll stay here. For a bit longer.
[A little more time keeping him for herself.]
