OPEN | well, i don't know where they come from but they sure do come

Who: Everyone and some adorable, rolly polly, purring kittens.
Where: Ballroom.
When: April 4th.
Rating: PG? It's kittens, how bad can it get.
Summary: As advertised, Anders wished for some kittens, now there are kittens, please adopt a kitten, kittens everywhere.

The Story:

[In the ballroom with plenty of space for them to romp around, Anders and Alistair set the kittens loose.

When he'd been thinking about them, Anders had had a particular image in his mind: a bunch of kittens sitting in a padded wicker basket like something out of a graphic illustration or inspired by a toilet paper brand. Who wouldn't find that adorable? That's exactly what he'd gotten, and exactly what they load the kittens up in to move them downstairs. Once the basket is deposited in the center of the room, some stay napping in its cushioned confines, others tumble out to explore.

Anders takes the time to bring up food, water, and litter. After some internal debating, he scatters some cat toys around the room, too. Welcome to Wonderland's one and only kitty daycare, for a limited time only!]

(OOC: Don't worry about threading with Anders or Alistair if you want to join in just for kittens. Consider this a mingle log where you can make your own posts, tag around, etc.)

A - Literally herding cats

[Inevitably during the trip downstairs several of their charges try and make a break for it. And with as many as there are even the best Wardens can lose track of a cat or two. Alistair has taken the job of rounding up a few escapees, wandering the halls between the fourth floor and the first, discreetly peering into open doors and calling out-] Here Purrlock, come on, where are you?

[In his arms he's carrying two more would-be apost-cats which squirm and mewl, trying to reach sweet freedom once again. With a sigh he lifts up one in each hand and gives them a stern look.]

If you two aren't going to help me find Purrlock there will be no more sightseeing. You can go back to Anders and stay there, got it?

[The lecture seems to go over its targets heads as the pair continue to cry out for freedom. Some cats don't know how good they've got it.]

B - Free to home. Any home will do.

[This is so not how Alistair envisioned spending his day when he woke up this morning.

There's a hole in his shirt that's getting steadily larger, he's pretty sure he's still bleeding from the claw marks on his chest and he's spent who knows how long chasing kittens around and ferrying them down to the ballroom. There's been plenty of whining from him every step of the way as everyone from the fourth floor down can attest. And yet he really doesn't appear all that put out once the lot of them are corralled in the ballroom.

Watching the multitude of cats scamper about he occupies himself running back and forth after them, capturing any attempting to escape the room or rescuing ones that get themselves in trouble. He always has at least one keeping him company as he wanders about, cradled in the crook of one arm, draped over his shoulder or, occasionally, peeking out of the hole in his shirt.

More importantly, as soon as he spots anyone in the ballroom without a cat on them he immediately makes his way over to give them one. This is not a negotiable transaction. These cats need homes or there's going to be just a room full of them across the hall from him and even kittens can cause trouble in numbers.

Coming up to one such cat-less person, he deposits a squirming body on them.]

Here you go! I think she likes you.

[Or isn't immediately running away. Good enough.]

( Look, this is all a misunderstanding. Emma didn't come down here in search of a cat. She saw the feed and heard the meowing and figured maybe the could use a hand, that's all. Henry has a dog and everyone knows those are two animals that don't get along. She can't do it. Adding a cat to their existing problems in Wonderland just doesn't work. And unfortunately for Alistair, handing her a kitten and walking away isn't going to guarantee this one a home.) Actually I can't -

( But then the kitten brushes her paw against Emma's hand when she goes to set her down, and she makes the mistake of looking down at the crying kitten who must have something against going back down on the floor with the rest of them. ) Don't look at me like that.

( That's to the cat, not to Alistair. All of her attention is on the wiggly furball currently attempting to climb her shirt. Crap. )

Convincing aren't they?

[He's pretty happy about any sign of weakness in the face of sad kitties. Whatever that can't that came before was about it has no bearing on his plan to try and force a kitten on the woman. Look, it's trying to climb her, it's meant to be.

Wiping the grin off his face he puts on his best, most woebegone expression and whines plaintively at her.]

I told you she likes you. And she needs a home. You're not going to leave a poor little kitty all alone with nowhere to call home are you? What will she do? Where will she sleep?

[Truthfully he has no doubt that Anders will take any that aren't adopted back with him to keep. Across the hall from Alistair himself. And sooner or later that is going to spill over to him somehow, he's sure. So she has to contribute to keeping Alistair's future from being drowned in cats and kitty litter.]

[personal profile] sheriffing 2016-04-11 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
There are an endless amount of rooms in this place and no shortage of spaces for a kitten to sleep.

[But that reply comes defensively because she's already considering it. A cat. At least it's not as involved as a dog, which would be too much to take on considering that Henry already has Lucky. He'll know she's hooked when she pulls the kitten a little closer, trying to support her instead of setting the animal free. She doesn't want the little furball to hurt herself while she's whining her way into picking up an owner.]

And you're just saying that because you're in over your head.

[Emma may be sold on this, but Alistair is just as screwed.]
fatherlesskind: (17)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2016-04-11 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
But not endless people to love them!

[He's sensing victory though, being as she has yet to put the kitten down and walk away. Would it be too much to try and talk her into another? Maybe he can convince her to take pity on him personally and find another one or two homes that way.]

I really am and it's not even my fault! [See how utterly despairing he is of the current situation? He's so far in over his head he can't even see the surface. It's very upsetting. Really.] I'm just trying to help a friend, I didn't cause this at all. Please say you'll help, I don't know what else to do!

[She gets his most pathetic puppy-dog eyes and he throws in a sniffle for good measure. Is it convincing? It didn't used to work when he was a boy but maybe she's a softer touch than the old Reverend Mother. It would be hard not to be.]
sheriffing: (Default)

[personal profile] sheriffing 2016-04-18 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
You realize I'm already sold, right?

[There's no need to keep the acting going, especially when Emma senses that's all this is. She'll take the cat, but just that cat. Any more than one and she'd have to deal with Regina's jokes for the rest of her life, and she's not prepared to deal with that when there are probably more people willing to take them. Everyone gets bored on normal Wonderland days, she's probably not the only one willing to take on a fluffy distraction.]

Just this one.

[Don't get any ideas Alistair. She does know her limits.]
fatherlesskind: (39)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2016-04-19 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to be sure.

[And just like that he's grinning happily at her, as cheerful as anything. It's a pity his act went to waste but maybe he can still try?]

But maybe you should get a friend for- [Alistair cuts himself off and raises his hands protectively in front of him as if he's about to be struck, still smiling all the while.] Or you can stick with just the one. That works too.

[Reaching out to pet the newly adopted kitten he offers-] Alistair. Hapless victim in all this. And you?
sheriffing: (🌟 9)

[personal profile] sheriffing 2016-05-09 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[One is all she can handle, and even then - this is a woman who kills plants might not be able to manage a goldfish, but cats are independent, right? Isn't that part of the appeal with them? She'll make sure the kitten has what it needs, along with a person who cares about her.]

Emma Swan, new victim in all of this. [Maybe not new to the realm, but the idea of cat ownership? Definitely. If she had just stayed out of the room...] Is there anything I need to know about her? And would you know if there was?

[She's clearly happy with the kitten, holding her close to keep her from having to test her ability to climb, but there are a lot of cats in here. How could they possibly be keeping track of all of them?]
fatherlesskind: (07)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2016-05-10 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Welcome to the club Emma!

[He's still working on what to call said club - the name is either going to be 'Don't blame me for this' or 'the Grey Pawdens'. As for her questions?]

Probably yes. And no, not a clue. [He manages to sound rather proud of his ignorance on proper cat care, standing there surrounded by scampering kittens who are hopefully staying inside the ballroom and only climbing a few things they shouldn't be.] But it can't be that hard. The old mouser I knew growing up never needed looking after. Except for one time when he got hurt but most days he'd claw anyone who came near him.

[So, by that logic, any cat should be easy enough to look after, even young ones. Hopefully. He can offer-] He liked it when I gave him my ham at dinner. So food's probably a good place to start.

[Isn't he Mr Helpful?]

[ She'd heard the word "kittens", okay? So she's here. What do you expect? Her freaking nickname is Cat, so sue her if she's got a ridiculous soft spot for cats! Not that she's defensive about it or anything because it totally doesn't ruin her generally more "tough" outer image that she likes to portray.

Once a cat's been dropped into her arms, Selina's gaze naturally goes up to see just who set it there. And she recognizes that face from her first broadcast after getting to Wonderland.

Oh. This guy. ]

Having some problems?

[ She smirks up at him, though the expression softens as she glances back down to the kitten now in her arms, shifting them into a more comfortable, safer position. Once the feline is unlikely to escape--yeah, she'll keep it. She'll always look after strays--her eyes dart back up to Alistair. ]

What the hell happened? How did you end up with this many kittens?
fatherlesskind: (22)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2016-04-06 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Alistair pauses after unloading the kitten onto her, trying to remember where he's seen her before. It takes a moment to click but when it does he can't help frowning, a little irritated and a little embarrassed. It's a lot more obvious how young she is when they're face-to-face and he can admit the argument they had was kind of dumb. But she was just as involved in it as he was so it's not entirely his fault. And look, he just gave her a pet. That's like apologising. Only better.

Folding his arms defensively, Alistair shakes his head.]
Nope. No problems. Everything's under control.

[Except for the multitude of cats running around the ballroom and the giant hole in his shirt and the scratches he has all up his arms. But it's totally fine.]

Blame him. [He jerks a thumb in Anders' direction where the mage is communing with the cats or something.] I got dragged in when they were already here. It's not my fault.

[Just to make it abundantly clear. He's not getting blamed for this.]
littlestreetcat: (pic#9816406)

mother of god, i'm so sorry for how late this is!

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2016-04-29 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah? Funny, because to me it looks like there is no control whatsoever here. With all the kittens running around and apparently ganging up on you, I mean.

[ She nods to the whole in his shirt, stifling a laugh. That's something she's never seen, a grown man with a hole in his shirt that must have been caused by a hoard of kittens. But then, this is the guy who got into a childish argument with her, so maybe she shouldn't be shocked.

Eyebrows raising, she follows the pointing thumb to Anders, watching him for a brief moment before her gaze returns to Alistair. The shift of blame doesn't rid her of curiosity, but she does have some difficulty that Alistair didn't have anything to do with it. Then again, it's not like she knows him well, so she could be wrong. ]

Wasn't really blaming anyone, but okay, how'd he end up swimming in kittens?

[ Not that Selina's complaining about the presence of tiny cats all over the place. She's honestly just curious! ...And maybe a little worried about what's going to happen to all of them. ]
fatherlesskind: (53)

no worries!

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2016-05-01 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That is- [Entirely accurate. But. He's so not admitting it.] Exactly what is supposed to be happening.

[Right down to his ruined shirt. Yes. Planned. All of it. Obviously. If he looks completely overwhelmed by rampaging kittens maybe more people will take pity on him and adopt one. Or two. Or three.

Speaking of which, there's been no objections to the idea of her keeping one so he figures he may as well try pushing his luck. Bending down, Alistair scoops up another kitten as it bounds past and attempts to deposit this one in her arms too. While offering an explanation to distract her from the clever ploy.]

An accident with the closets. [Because, in what is a surprise to all, this really did have nothing to do with him.] Or that's what he told me.

[And he's pretty sure Anders wouldn't lie to him. Though maybe he should be more careful about who he tells that to in case someone wants to repeat the whole thing with animals that would be worse to deal with. Like pigs. Or dragons.]
littlestreetcat: (pic#9816409)

<3!

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2016-05-07 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Uh huh.

[ Supposed to be happening. Riiiight. Because a sea of kittens and a decimated shirt just screams "this is all going according to plan." ]

I completely believe you.

[ Sarcasm? What sarcasm? None of that here, no sir.

He manages to surprise her when he drops another kitten into her arms, leading to her scrabbling for a moment to make sure the new one doesn't fall. She's quick to get it secure though, giving the little ball of fluff a few pets before her gaze darts back up to Alistair.

So, maybe she's not complaining. Maybe she's happy taking two kittens instead of just one. So what? Someone has to help. Just because he's getting away with it doesn't mean it's clever or that she doesn't see what he's doing. ]

I didn't think the closets could produce living things. He probably should have thought twice about using one to get a kitten, given Wonderland's sense of humour.

[ Sure, magic closets are handy and all, but they are part of Wonderland and thus likely to... Well, create a flood of kittens when you only want one. ]

Guess it could've been worse, though. At least kittens are harmless--unless you're a shirt, anyway.

[ SNERK. ]
fatherlesskind: (12)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2016-05-09 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
[It could be part of his plan! How can she know for sure that it's not all some brilliant scheme of his? She can't, that's how.

Brilliant plan of no, Alistair has to resist the urge to stick his tongue out at her complete lack of sarcasm.]

Oh shut up.

[Although the fact that she's seemingly wiling to take a second cat home with her excuses just about all non-existent sarcasm. And she's worried about the second one falling and getting hurt, petting it for reassurance when it's settled in her arms, which he takes as evidence she'll care for them. All of which means Alistair will just need to see how many he can pile on before enough is enough.

So, number three is scampering closer. He just needs to wait for his moment.]

Well they can give you some animals. Not griffons. But I know someone who got a mabari from hers. Ah- a hound. Just one. And he's a good puppy, not a problem at all.

[If a little troublesome sometimes and prone to stealing things. But still a good boy! And so cute and adorable.

As is kitten number three which has just come in range! Scooping it up Alistair wordlessly adds it to the pile, hands cupped underneath just in case it falls. He's trying to give them away, not kill them.]

Harmless is pushing it. I think the Empress of Pawlais took offense to my entire wardrobe.

[Seriously, don't say anything. It's not funny.... Alright it is but still.]
littlestreetcat: (pic#9816406)

[personal profile] littlestreetcat 2016-05-10 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ She can't help but snicker when the only thing he manages to come back at her with is "shut up". Yep. She won that one. ]

Huh. Well, it can also give you enough kittens to fill a pool with, so. I still think being careful about it is probably a good idea.

[ Especially if this flood could have been of a much less friendly creature.

Really, this time, she's not surprised when he piles another kitten into her increasingly full arms. She doesn't refuse it though, instead slips him down more, inbetween the other two so she can keep a grip on all three of them. Selina scratches this one under the chin as she sets her attention back on Alistair. Just how many is he going to try to pawn off on her? As he continues speaking though, something more important grabs her attention. ]

...Empress of Pawlais? Did you name one of them that?

[ Yeah, it's funny. And yeah, she's going to laugh at him. ...Actually, she already is. ]
fatherlesskind: (39)

[personal profile] fatherlesskind 2016-05-11 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, yeah. That's a good point. He wouldn't want to see what happened if someone managed to get dangerous animals from the closets. Or nugs. Having those running around would just be too much.]

I'm not the one who needs to be told that.

[He's just been trying to get a griffon from his closet every day since he found out they could produce living things. But it hasn't been successful yet so.

...And is he really getting away with this? Can he honestly just keep adding cats to the pile and she'll let him? Because he's just fine with that. Sure, he could ask her how many she's willing to take and be done with it. But where's the fun in that? So it's time to see if he can get four here soon. Or maybe five, since there's a pair nearby that he should be able to nab.]

Of course I did! [Even if it's not his cat and will certainly end up being called something different.] It's a great name and fitting. Since she doesn't like me or my wardrobe.

[He's not even remotely offended by the laughter because it is such a great name for a fussy, unfriendly cat.]

I can help you name yours if you like.

[Because she can see how brilliant he is at naming things. Why wouldn't she want his help?]
