The Story:

[Pretty much anywhere on the mansion grounds, 12/07]

[So hell...that happened. All right. That actually wasn't so bad all things considered. Okay, it was bad, but it wasn't as bad as it could've been. She'd been able to keep her wits about her, she had Stone Free still, nobody she knew died or at least she doesn't think so. So all in all, she's not going to let it get to her.

So today, she'll be hanging around outside. She doesn't make an announcement about it like last time, she's not really too pissed off about things, and it's nice, okay? With everything going on back home, there wasn't a lot of time to just kind of relax and hang around, so it's something she goes out of her way to do in Wonderland.

She's not really planning to get involved in anything, but if somebody wants to say hi, she's more than fine with talking to them for a while.]

[For Kanji, 12/07]

[At some point on the same day, she'll call Kanji out here. She can't spend all day doing nothing. Okay, yes, actually, she can, but there's something she's been wanting to do. And since there's no giant messes going on, she doesn't have memory tampering to gripe about, none of that crap, so this is the best time.]

All right, so this Persona of yours. Let's see it.

[Maybe there's a better way to go about these things, but if there is Jolyne doesn't know it.]

You said he's more of an outside guy, right?

[For Souji 12/08]

[The next day, Jolyne's making time to head for the diner and look for Souji. She owes him a conversation and has for a while actually, so this seems like a good time. It's not that she's avoiding him or doing this, she knows she's been putting it off. It's just that offering to talk about her world is so much easier than actually doing it.]

If you're free, do you have a minute? Uh, actually maybe a few of them, this could take a while.

[It could definitely take a while. Count on that one.]

[Souji looks up from wiping up some tables and nods.]

Sure. [He moves to toss his cleaning rag back behind the counter and out of the way.] What's up?

All right, so the more I think about it, if I keep waiting for a good time to talk about my world or for Wonderland to calm the fuck down for a few seconds, it's never gonna happen so...

[She just shrugs, and takes a seat at the counter.]

So I figured no time like the present, right? Unless you've got something going on, then it can definitely wait.

[Yesssss his curiosity will finally be satisfied!

He shows his great happiness by glancing around the pretty much empty diner, then coming to stand beside where she's sitting.]

I'm free. Do you want anything before we get started?

Yeah, actually. I'll take...whatever's in the bar on the other floor. All of it. To go.

[She's kidding. Mostly.]

No, I should be fine. Maybe a glass of water.

[Easy enough. Souji gets her a glass of ice water and sets it in front of her before coming around to sit on the same side of the counter she's on.]

So I know you grew up in Florida and I know your...was it your dad who fought a vampire? What else is there?

Yeah, that's right. It was my dad. Which uh...let me apologize now actually. I don't know the whole story, there's probably some parts of it Josuke knows better than I do since dad actually spent time with him.

[Haha, she's not bitter at all.

Okay, yes, she's a little bitter.]

But yeah, dad fought a vampire who I guess had some huge beef with my family or...something. Honestly? I don't know much there. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why the guy was in Egypt anyway.

[Look she saw her dad's memories through a CD-ROM stolen from an evil priest, she is absolutely not kidding about not knowing the whole thing.]

Anyways, he beat him. But I guess the guy had followers that were super pissed off about him dying, so they wanted to get revenge.

[She takes a sip of her water, and just tries not to laugh.]

God, it all sounds so stupid, doesn't it?

[Souji listens, his chin on his hand, his elbow propped on the counter. He shakes his head.]

It sounds complicated. [Though he has to admit:] And a little silly in places.

There were lots of silly parts in my story, too.

[Like the empty bear suit and the failed attempt at crowd surfing and the cross-dressing.]

I'm pretty sure complicated's an understatement. And you've got to tell me the silly parts. Kanji hasn't.

[She's got silly parts too, just mountains of exposition before we get there.]

So I grow up not knowing any of this, right? Mom tries her best, dad's off doing...something. He's a marine biologist, but I guess he's like some sort of...I don't know.

[Superhero's not right. Secret agent's closer, but also not right.]

He did some stuff with tracking down people who misuse their powers. Meanwhile, I grow up kind of..., no not kind of, I was pretty pissed he wasn't around, so I did a lot of stupid shit. Get my shit together after that, and surprise? I get sent to prison. I know, I know, this is more like my life story than explaining my world, but this is how I learned, okay?

[She could've just dropped a bunch of facts but no, that's not how she does things.]

Up until then, I thought my world was normal. I mean honestly, it's probably mostly identical to yours. I don't know if there's an Inaba, but we probably have a lot of similar places, the same stores, cars, planes, all that. Then I get to prison and learn there's these things called Stands. You get em from being stabbed with a magical arrow, and as I understand it, they're pretty close to what you guys call Personas.

[She's not doing the whole it's a Stand because it stands beside you thing, that's stupid. She thought it was stupid when she saw Joseph say it in her dad's memories, and she thinks it's stupid now.]

So basically in my world, ever since the shit with that vampire, and possibly before that, I don't know, you've had all these people behind the scenes with Stands. Some of them good, some of them bad, some of them neither, really. And it's not just people, I guess, not human ones anyway. My dad knew a dog with a Stand, I was friends with a colony of plankton, it's...it's weird.

[It's definitely weird.]

[It's helpful that she knows Kanji and he's (apparently) explained to her what a Persona is and at least about Inaba. That'll make it easier to tell his own story when it's his turn.]

Wait, so how'd you end up in prison in the first place?

[Because of the stupid shit she did or something related to her dad and all these behind the scenes guys?]

Do you have a Stand?

[If she does, that's a thing he wants to see.]

Yeah, so the vampire's buddies wanted to get back at my dad and lure him to a place where they could get him, and my boyfriend at the time was a real ass, and don't even get me started on my lawyer, so I ended up getting framed for murder. It sucked.

[She's not anywhere near as broken up about it as she used to be though.]

Seriously, if there's one thing I can definitely say, it's stay the fuck out of prison, you might meet some cool people there, but it's absolutely not worth it.

And yeah, I've got one. My dad's got one, my uncle, I think everybody in our family ends up with one at some point or another.

[She shrugs, she doesn't know how it all works. She got stabbed with the arrow, but she's pretty sure Josuke and her dad had something to do with DIO getting a Stand? Or something? It's like her universe is plotted by some guy who can't keep his story's logic straight.]

[There are just...so many questions. Everything she says elicit more. But the obvious one here is:]

Can I see your Stand?

[He's a little excited by the idea. It's like seeing someone else's Persona for the first time.]

Sure. I mean if you can, I don't know how that all works. So here goes...

[She'll just shrug because once again, she's not the keeper of Stand rules or anything like that. She'll leave that one to her dad and people who know what the hell they're doing. So out comes Stone Free behind her, with little fanfare.

{OOC: He can see it if he wants! Or not, it's up to you!}

[Maybe because of his Personas and his associated proclivity toward that type of thing, Souji can see the Stand that appears behind her. He looks it over, more curious than ever. It really does seem like a Persona, except perhaps more obviously corporeal.]

What does it do?

Well for starters, she can hit things. But other than that, uh...

[She trails off looking a little embarrassed. Normally, she just does things. She didn't have a problem showing Josuke or Trish, but they're used to Stand stuff. With people who haven't, she's not really sure what to do here.]

I don't know if you want to see, it's kind of gross, actually.

...I have a Persona that looks like a giant penis on a chariot.

[So...really, he's ready for anything.]

I can probably handle it.

[Jolyne takes all of a second to think about that, and...]

You know, I've met some people who are complete dicks, but never someone who could summon one.

[Jokes aside this is something that's going to bug her for a while because what...and why and what again and then back to why?]

But all right, if you say so.

[She'll hold up her hand, and it starts to unravel. It's not exposing what's beneath or anything like that. It's more as if her hand is made of string and someone's pulling it apart. And of course being Jolyne, she twists it into a few shapes to show that she can actually control it and things haven't gone wrong.]

So this is what else she can do.

[Someday, he'll show her a picture of Mara and they'll both regret it.]

That's pretty cool. What can you use that for?

[He can think of some possibilities, but it's better to get the info from the source.]

...actually come to think of it, I guess all guys can summon one.

[Give her a second and she'll just sort of try and laugh that one off.]

Sorry, my mind went somewhere else for a second. Anyways, she can do a lot of things. Hang on.

[She'll put her hand back together.]

That for example. I can grab things, use it as a telephone, use it as a security system, I did that during the Summerween thing.

[She's just listing a ton of stuff to try and distract from that comment earlier.]

I can use it to patch myself up, but since it's part of me, it hurts like a bitch, so I'd rather not. I can take stuff apart with it, really there's not a lot of limit to what I can do. If you can do something with string, odds are me and Stone Free can figure out a way to do it.

[Jolyne, no.

Souji is just going to...move on past that comment, despite his face turning just slightly pink. Mara has never embarrassed him before, but then again, only his teammates have ever known about that Persona.]

That's a lot. All my Personas can do is attack, defend, and heal.

[Not to knock Persona power. It's great for combat. Not so great for practical purposes, though.]

I think there's some like that too. My dad's Stand works like that for the most part. He sort of stop time for a few seconds too?

[She shrugs. It's not a huge deal to her, not really.]

But for the most part, all I've seen it do is punch things.

My Personas can't really touch things.

[This comparing thing is kind of fun, actually.]

When you use a Stand does it do anything to you? Make you tired or weak?

It depends. I guess stopping time is really tiring. And if I use too much string or it gets cut, it messes me up, so there's that. But it's kind of hard to tell normally, you mostly use it in a fight, and the fight itself is usually tiring. So it's like is it the fight or the Stand? Or both?

[It's kind of obvious this isn't something she's really had the time to think about before today. But now she's going to think about it. And it'll bug her.]

[Of course it would be that complex, Souji thinks. Real world conditions always are. In the TV World, it seemed like a simple dichotomy between health and spirit. Although the physical attacks and all the running around was tiring, there was also the drain on his spirit, which he didn't know how to explain.]

You're probably right that it's both. I guess it's not a simple question to answer.

Honestly, it probably is? But nobody actually took the time to teach me any of this shit. I had to learn it all on the fly, but like...seriously on the fly. My hands started unraveling when I got pissed off and then my cellmate turned out to be this psycho bitch with a Stand.

[She was attacked by something called Goo Goo Dolls for fuck's sake. She seriously missed out on whatever nice easy tutorial people are supposed to get.]

Like I don't have a clue how you guys learned how to use your Personas, but if nobody threw you into the middle of a giant shitfest like that, consider yourself lucky.

It was pretty similar for me.

[Being attacked by Shadows is a practical way to learn to use a Persona, sure, but not the most fun way.]

A friend and I were wandering around inside the TV world and a couple of shadows attacked us. All I had was a golf club, so we got pretty lucky that that's when my Persona chose to manifest.
