Where: All over the Citadel.
When: 4/1 - 4/4
Rating: PG for Kanji's mouth.
Summary: Space adventure! Time to see what the Citadel has to offer.
The Story:
silversun strip/castle arcade
[After Kanji gets over his initial bout of culture shock, he goes into full-on tourist mode. He spends a little time at the shops in the Wards, but the real draw ends up being the Silversun Strip-- a beacon for tourists of all kinds, it seems. The Castle Arcade is a huge draw, and he’ll easily spend hours trying his luck with the games there, either alone or with any friends who want to join him-- not to mention a few rounds of what passes for laser tag here over at the Armax Arena.
Naturally, food is still a necessity in the future, and he’ll be intent on checking out the local restaurants as well, eating way more than he probably needs to but insisting that this is a once and a lifetime chance. When is he ever going to get the opportunity to dine in space again? Either way, he’s happy to invite friends to join him throughout their stay on the Citadel, whether it’s to play or shop or eat. Events like these never last, and it’s rare that they have one that’s genuinely fun. Time to make the most of it, guys.]
the presidium
[The wealth of information concerning Council space and the Citadel’s government and trade policies available is sure to draw any number of inquiring minds to the Presidium-- but Kanji doesn’t seem to notice or care where he is, hands deep in his pockets as he walks past the embassies, following a Keeper that seems equally impervious to its surroundings. He’s been scolded a time or two about trying to approach Keepers already, but this is the first one he’s seen in motion rather than working, and he can’t help being curious.
He looks over his shoulder to make sure he’s not being watched by any Citadel staff before following the Keeper around the next bend, stopping abruptly when he realizes the creature has paused to scan and examine an electrical panel. As the Keeper settles in to work, Kanji crouches down beside it, leaning in to try and get a better look, reaching out to let his hand hover above its head-- not quite touching it just yet, but definitely tempting fate.]
Hey there, little guy. I’m not botherin’ you, am I?
[Whatever this thing actually is or does, it’s cute as hell, in a weird kind of way.]
wildcard
[Whatever you want! Feel free to shoot me a PM or hit me up atnecrofancy if you want to plan out something specific, otherwise have at it!]
the presidium
Well, he didn't expect to find a fellow human approaching one of the aliens like it's a pet, fully ready to pat it on its head. Steve stops in his tracks as soon as he witnesses it, not sure for a second what to even do in this situation. Still, if he doesn't intervene this could end in disaster.
So he steps over, clearing his throat to get the attention of the other human. ]
Just a guess, but touching without asking is probably an intergalactic taboo.
[ Steve does his best to be polite about it, but the last thing he needs is for some sort of incident to break out in a government building. The kid should really know better, even if he's just trying to be friendly. ]
no subject
I'm not lookin' to break any taboos, just-- just sayin' hi, you know? Wasn't gonna hurt 'im or anything.
[Seriously, this thing is adorable, how could he resist?]
He didn't seem to mind, anyway.
no subject
The Keeper looks between the two of them before continuing its work. Steve can't assume anything about reading the mood of an alien, but it really does seem completely unaffected. ]
Yeah, guess not...
[ Steve moves a little closer, though still keeps a good five feet of distance between him and both of the other parties here. He's curious about what the Keeper is doing, he'll admit that much. ]
You don't belong here either, right? You're from Wonderland?
[ It's not exactly hard to tell. ]
no subject
Kanji nods to confirm, his face cooling in the process.]
Yeah-- I mean, not originally, obviously, but the last year or so.
[Funny, how quickly that time had gone by.]
Kanji Tatsumi. I help Souji out in the diner.
no subject
The mention of Souji and the diner causes an instant positive shift in his demeanor, both of those things familiar to him. ]
Sure. That's why you looked familiar. I'm kind of a regular there.
[ Not as much lately because he's been put through the wringer in various ways, but he still comes by from time to time. Usually he draws or reads while he eats, though, hence why they've never actually talked before. ]
I'm Steve Rogers. [ He extends his hand to Kanji. ] It's nice to meet you.
no subject
[Kanji doesn't have a great head for faces or for names, but now that Steve says that, it sounds at least vaguely familiar. A lot of people come in and out, which is something he should really take advantage of. What better way to get to know the Wonderland population?
He looks at the hand for a moment, uncertain before he offers his own. He's not used to any adult wanting to shake his hand, usually quick to write him off as a troublemaker instead, but he takes hold of Steve's and gives it a solid shake.]
Good t'meet you for real.
no subject
While he can sense that Kanji is feeling a little awkward, Steve assumes it's because he'd initially come over here to scold him, nice as he'd been about it. Now that they have some common ground, it should be easier to have a conversation. ]
So this must be your first time in space. In a manner of speaking, anyway.
[ They're not actually in space, but can any of them tell the difference? ]
I mean, I guess it's mine too. It's a lot to take in.
[ And this from someone who's dealt with aliens before and even calls one friend. ]
no subject
[That said, Kanji has been some pretty weird places that would make even a seasoned spacer do a double-take, but this really is something else. He's glad that Souji gets to experience this, too, but he feels a little bad that the rest of their friends from home are missing out.]
Wonderland is always full of surprises, no question about that.
no subject
[ For someone like Shepard, this is all commonplace, whereas she would raise an eyebrow at some of the things Steve and Kanji consider normal. ]
For all that these events are usually awful... [ Steve trails off and takes a look around the impressive architecture of the presidium. At the aliens and humans going about their business like it's all normal. ] Getting to see glimpses of other people's lives can be pretty interesting.
[ It's a silver lining, if a thin one. ]
no subject
I could do with more events like this. Just seein' where other people are from, seein' what their lives are like. We could learn a lot this way.
no subject
Yeah, I agree. Even if we're not actually in space, it feels like the real thing and that's good enough for me. [ Steve hasn't set aside the possibility that he might actually make it out into space one day, though it hasn't exactly been on his list of priorities. ]
Have there been any events from your world so far? [ Steve doesn't always get the chance to identify who each event belongs to. ]
no subject
[That had been an experience-- a frustrating one for Souji, he remembers. It hadn't been easy for his leader to admit that he'd forgotten things that were so integral to their everyday lives.]
Not all of 'em were bad. I heard one let people spend a few days at our school's culture festival.
no subject
[ Steve's attention is grabbed by the mention of lost words, though. It must have been difficult to narrow those down, but with a shared experience between Kanji and his "senpai," it must have been enough to get to the bottom of it. Fitz had figured out Steve's forgotten word, after all. ]
What were the other ones? And would you mind telling me what the words are?
[ He would have shared his own, but it's not as if that's possible when he doesn't have someone else around to help him along.
Since this conversation doesn't look to be ending any time soon, Steve begins to lead them through the presidium so they can see the sights while they chat. ]
no subject
[He frowns a little, rubbing at the back of his neck. There had been a bunch, but he thinks he can remember most of them.]
One of 'em brought the hot springs from our town here to Wonderland. Think the forgotten word for that one was 'yukata.' Then there was one where people were dealin' with their own Shadows... they weren't as bad as the real ones, I don't think they hurt anybody, but it sounds like they were still annoying as hell. Forgotten words for that were 'I am thou.'
[That one had hit Souji particularly hard, he remembers.]
no subject
I remember the hot springs. [ It's one of the few enjoyable events that they've had, so it sticks out in his memory for that alone. ] The Shadow one must have been before my time, though. It sounds like the kind of thing that I'd remember.
[ With this talk of "real" Shadows, Steve can't help but pursue the line of questioning. Despite their rocky start, Kanji has been forthcoming. ]
What do you mean by the real ones? Are Shadows something specific where you're from?
