Summary: Science + metahuman powers = ?????? ; AKA: Fitz and Cisco try to break a hole through Wonderland's barriers in their attempts to reach another dimension, but the experiment has gone sideways! Mirror Cisco is on the loose in the mansion and he's determined to wreck his Real's life in the most disastrous ways possible and will be trying to fool people when and where he can. WHO will discover this slippery switch?! How much chaos will M!Cisco leave behind?!

Well, the jig is up! m!Cisco has been apprehended, it's time to go home and face the consequences of what he's done.

There's an abrupt laugh at that. "Uhm, that's not-- even how it works in a normal lab setting. There's locks and passwords and encryptions, data is never stored freely, that's ridiculous." He sounds genuinely incredulous at this idea.

"It is, isn't it?" Fitz had been dismissive before, but Cisco's response lends him courage. "They don't seem to understand what's even out there. I'd like to respect them as colleagues, but they're so ungrounded it can get exhausting."

Oh, hell. He's pushed a button. W e l p. Guess this is a conversation they're having now. "You'd think Jane would be aware of the protocols, though. I mean-- she's actually a Doctor, right?" The question could be seen as a teasing jab, rather than the maybe slightly more serious question it actually is. Hey, people could easily lie about credentials in Wonderland, who's to say she was? Or that she wasn't stripped of her license for unethical practices or something.

"She's a leader in her field. I was familiar with her publications before arriving here. But her methodology..." He shakes his head in dismay. "She's creating a schism over absolutely nothing. Protocols aren't inherently evil just because they came from a system that's been unkind to her."

"Well, maybe we can make her see the point in it all with this little interruption we had today." Because ultimately, if the Mason twins had shown themselves at just the wrong time, they could have caused the whole experiment to go haywire and then where would he be? Not on the Real side of the mirror, that's where.

"I would've thought it was enough that people have been murdered in this lab. You weren't here when the mirrors got out, were you? Darcy had to kill one right over there."

He gestures vaguely to a corner that's still thoroughly empty. There was a cabinet there, once upon a time.

The surprise on his face is actually genuine. He didn't know about that. Must have been before he was made. "Yikes. That sounds freaking insane, dude." To say the least. He wants to ask who this little friend of his had killed, but somehow that doesn't seem like the best question to ask right now. "Maybe you're right. Maybe all hope is lost on this one."

He hums thoughtfully and tilts his head, "I mean, you could get your own lab set up, if you wanted to. Then your security would be...your security." Just an idea. Really, where were all the genius' brains sometimes?!

He lifts a shoulder in a shrug, visibly deflating. It's fortunate that Cisco is a strong friend to have. It's easier to open up when there's trustworthy company.

"Maybe I'm just taking it too personally. I died around then too. It happened the last time we were this close to opening portal testing. I suppose that's what created so much anxiety in the first place. Feels a bit like there'll be mirrors pouring out of everywhere now that the research is back to where it was then."

"Oh..." Awkward. Is he supposed to hug him now? He died, that's traumatic or something, right? But is it really, when you come back? Hm...

"I guess that kinda puts some things into perspective, though..." He purses his lips, "But hey, no mirrors flying through this time, huh? So at least that's a step up from last time." Optimism, this is how it works, right?

"Small favors."

He draws a hand down his face, then shifts his attention to the work at hand.

"I think there might be something happening on that side, though. They're writing a lot more than usual."

"Oh, are they?" He perks a brow. "Who's been stalking you on the RealTV Network, dude?" How sad is it, he's standing in front of one of them and he doesn't even realize it.

"I've got no idea. I know Doctor Banner's mirror keeps tabs on lab progress, but there've been some others since then. I don't know what's been drawing them here." He shoves a piece back into place, bringing the control panel back to life. "Jemma says I'm being ridiculous. They can't do anything where they are now. But that doesn't mean that they're going to stay on that side forever."

"Well, that's creepy," He purses his lips at the idea and folds his arms across his chest. "Hm... I don't think it's that ridiculous. I mean, paranoid, maybe, but...then, they've kinda given you reason to be." He shrugs a little. "It's not really unreasonable to want to take precautions."

"You think so?" He smiles softly.

"I'd been starting to think they might have a point. I've been hearing the same thing from so many people..."

"Yeah, man," He lightly claps a hand on Fitz's shoulder and returns that smile with one of his own, letting his hand fall back to his side. "no doubt they're chomping at the bit for any way to screw us all over the second an opportunity presents itself. Where's the harm in trying to plan for the possibility?"

He nods then, more securely this time.

"You're right. It's better to make sure things stay safe. Do you need me to show you how to navigate access again?"

"Agreed." He nods a little, "yeah, take me through a run of it, just to be sure." Wow, was it really that easy? He's so lucky this guy trusts his Real this much.

"It's all configured toward biological access, so you shouldn't have a problem with remembering rubbish codes or security loops that would be too difficult to enforce." He gestures to the different pieces as he mentions them, thoroughly animated now that they're discussing his work. "You trigger it by setting your index finger on this pad here. It'll verify your print, and then lower this retinal scanner. Look directly at the red light and don't blink -- it won't take more than a few moments. It's really quite simple, despite the energy that lot has set into making it seem like an imposition."

He nods a little and listens as Fitz explains everything and really, it just sounds like something out of a movie as far as he's concerned. But it's also pretty awesome. As he babbles, Cisco can't help notice he's kind of cute when he's all hyper like this. Huh. Weird. "That's totally dope." He grins and nods a bit. "I'm not sure why anyone would find it so inconvenient."

[It's a smile that may have never crossed his mirror's face. The real Fitz still finds pleasure and satisfaction in his designs, even when they're erected out of duress.]

It's not as sophisticated as what we work with at home, but it's not terrible for a rush job. I could bring it fully up to code if there was time to dig into it.

[Though then he'd have to design lanyards, and that process is soul-crushing.]

"Well, when it Wonderland... or, Rome?" He jokes with a slight smirk. He thinks he's hilarious, okay, don't you judge him. "So..." He quietly claps his hands together and turns a finger in Fitz's direction. "do you need anything else from me right now? I know we have stuff to recalculate and all, but I think I need a minute or two to recharge from this bitter disappointment."

"Some time away from the project might be best for everyone." Fitz nods in agreement, casting a glance back to the archway, still glowing with a blue aura.

"I'll still send Jemma to check on you, though. We need to be sure you're all right before we try again."

"That means you too," he says, a teasing lilt in his voice as he points at him, playfully accusatory.

He drops his hand back down to his side and nods a bit, "All right, yeah. Just let me know when she needs me?"

Fitz grimaces, then lets it blossom into a full smile. "You've been picking up on my habits." Almost as if he'd been watching Fitz at work or something. "It's about time for a snack anyway."

"Just a little," He says, holding his finger and thumb a small space apart. "Weird how that happens when you spend months working together on a project."
