He pushes forward toward her and drops to his knees next to her. "I'm so sorry." He says, voice soft and tight with emotion as he cradles the back of her head in his hand and he tugs her close for a hug. "I'm sorry I didn't figure it out sooner, that I didn't get here faster."
no subject
Caitlin's stiff, resistant, when he initially pulls her close. But after a moment, she melts into the embrace, her hands desperately clutching at his back.
"I'm sorry I couldn't warn you," she mumbles in a hushed voice.
She's well-aware that she's ignoring Fitz's orders. Consider her curious as to how far he's willing to go to sell this. It might even give her a little thrill.
no subject
He moves forward and grabs a fistful of Caitlin's hair, yanking her away from the hug.
"Has something damaged your hearing? What do we say when someone gives us a gift??"
no subject
The next thing Cisco knows, she's out of his grip and being jerked away from him. "Hey! What the hell?" His head snaps up to look at Fitz, incredulous. "Leave her alone. You're supposed to be helping me!"
no subject
Instead, she whimpers pathetically.
"Thank you, Sir. I'm sorry, Sir."
And now from the right account
"Four hours. I want to see progress when I get back."
Four hours should be enough for the first session. She'll lay the ground rules and work on the real thing's perception. Then he'll return for physical reinforcement. By the time they're through with it, Caitlin will have the adorable pet she's wanted for months.
no subject
He just watches Fitz, confused as to what he's talking about all together. He turns back to Caitlin, trying to fuss at her after she was turned loose. "Are you okay?"
no subject
"Yes, Sir." He's going to so owe her for all this. His ego is big enough and she's just feeding it with all of this. But four hours. Four hours is a good amount of time to make some headway. She'll try appealing to his sympathy first. See if she can get him to "play along."
"I shouldn't make him angry. The others are worse. I shouldn't make him have to hurt me."
no subject
"No, look--" His hands go up to cup her face, make her look at him, but not at all in a way like the sheer manhandling she's been dealing with all this time. "you didn't make him, any of them, do anything. They made those choices on their own. This isn't your fault. None of this. It's--" His voice wavers and his eyes sting with unshed tears. "it's my fault. I should have known, Cait... nobody knows you better than me, she shouldn't have been able to fool me like that. Not for this long."
no subject
She leans into his touch, a simple and needy gesture that speaks of lack of basic gentle human contact. Her eyes are still downcast, unable to look her "best friend" in the eye. The real Caitlin seems big on shame and guilt, even with things out of her control. "They watch us. Study us. Who knows how long she was watching me to take my place."
no subject
"What can you tell me about what I need to know to get us out of here?" He asks, pulling away just enough to look at her again.
no subject
She seems reluctant to let him pull back, like he may disappear if he isn't pressed right against her. "I'm sorry, Cisco. We're both trapped now."
no subject
He hadn't had the time, though, so he doesn't focus on it.
"We'll get out, Cait." Hands framing her face, he presses a kiss to her forehead, "I promise." His powers had gotten him into this, certainly he could use them to get out.
Gently, he pulls back from her and pushes himself to his feet, moving a little away from her. He'd gotten more accustomed to opening breaches in all his failed attempts at making his way anywhere. He's almost.... comfortable with it, actually. Which is a far cry from where he had been when he showed up here.
Normally, he would have had some quip to say here, something ridiculous or a movie reference, but...it doesn't feel appropriate. Instead, he just holds his hand out and focuses on opening a breach. It starts, just on the inside of his palm, blue and white swirls of light and--
The glow is gone as he shouts in pain, the sudden, intense shock running down his spine bringing him to his knees. It wasn't an incredibly long jolt, but it was unexpected and sharp, enough to double him over in agony.
no subject
It's touching.
Caitlin knows exactly what's going to happen the minute he fires up his powers. She was there with Dr. Fitz created the collar, when he'd tested the mechanism. All pets, no matter how well-trained, need boundaries. Since they couldn't put up a literal electric fence, they settled for a personal one. She has to bite the corners of her mouth to keep from smiling when he cries out, and there's a slight delay before she scrambles toward him on hands and knees.
"Oh god. Oh god, oh god, oh god..." She slings an arm across his back, pulling him close. "I didn't-- I didn't think he'd make your powers a trigger. He... " She swallows hard. "He had to trigger mine manually, when I made him unhappy. When I disobeyed."
no subject
That's the thing about someone like Cisco, he tries to put up a good front, be the eternally hopeful, the heroically brave, but deep down he's still just a ball of pessimism and insecurities. Sure, being on Team Flash has changed things for him, about him even, but the core of who a person is? That's something they can never escape. Failure is a setback in its own right, but the additional preventative measure here makes it harder to hold on to hope. If he can't use his powers, they have to get out manually somehow. But that means waiting for Fitz's horrendous mirror to come back.
Slowly, he pushes himself back up into a seated position, "We- we have to make a plan, Cait...for when he gets back. We're gonna have to make a break for it." He just isn't confident in that working out well in their favor. Who knows how many of the other mirrors would try to stop them if they could even get away from him.
no subject
Even as he sits up, she looks him over, like the real Caitlin would. Once a doctor, always a doctor. "But there's two of us now. We could... we could try to overwhelm him? Rush him the minute the door opens."
no subject
"Any idea how long he'll be gone?"
no subject
"He said four hours, but there's no telling really."
no subject
"Okay. So we bide our time, and we play it by ear." He sounds more sure of things suddenly, glancing around the room for anything that could be fashioned into even the crudest of weapons. "When he gets back, we rush him-- hopefully, that's successful, and we get the hell out of here." There doesn't seem to be anything around at all, as far as he can tell. This is worrisome.
no subject
"Maybe..." She hesitates like she's a little scared to suggest this. "Maybe we play along. Maybe we can convince him enough to take off the collar."
no subject
Wait. What is she saying? "Wh-" He spins back around to look at her, expression puzzled. Feeding into the game he was playing didn't seem like the best plan, if you asked him. Letting him think he really did have the control on him he was going for... ....but if he thought he had it, couldn't they surprise him easier? His guard might lower enough for them to take advantage of an opportunity...
"Do you really think it'd work?" He definitely doesn't sound like he likes the idea, he's uneasy and now he's fidgeting, uncomfortable at even considering it.
