Who: Freya Mikaelson + YOU / Some Closed Starters Where: Various Wonderland Places When: June/July 2017 Rating: PG-13 Summary: Catch-all for Freya for the AC period. The Story:
[ It makes sense, and despite himself, he does appreciate it. He's gone out of his way to protect Dean more times than he can count, and he'd do the same for a few choice Wonderland residents. Freya might not be doing the 'right' thing, but she's sticking to her guns.
He sighs, deflating. ]
Alright. Just - [ But what can he say? She's said she'll do what she can, but she's also said there's no guarantee, and there isn't. Nothing is guaranteed, particularly in Wonderland. ]
[The question itself was likely inevitable, but it still gives her pause for a moment. It's still something that likely should be explained, all things considered.]
Aside from having been a victim himself, Lucifer considers the wolf a friend.
[It's both complete and too simple an explanation at the same time, hedging just around the truths she doesn't want to tell.]
[She nods because she can understand that at least.]
I can't really speak to that. But ... I think it was more about what he was afraid would happen to you than it was about either of them.
[She pauses.]
Or at least that was my concern. Which, I know, you can look out for yourself.
[Possibly even against an unkillable Original hybrid, but why have that confrontation at all. Things were too heated in the moment. There was no way it would have ended well, and would have only served in making her brother out to be an even larger monster than he already was, even if it was only in self-defense.]
[She nods once, taking in his words as she considers the weight of what he's saying. She understands that he's a hunter, that his view of the world is slightly more black and white than the one she comes from, but she can't help but set her jaw at the fact that he'd rather die than let the situation breathe and try to figure out a better way.]
Yes, because of course that's the better choice. Die a hero, trying to avenge the life of your friend. That's what the narrative will be, won't it? It's a much neater story than you forcing someone to kill you in order to protect themselves.
[She pauses, before tipping her head to the side.]
Because by killing once, and the most beloved woman in all of Wonderland to boot, they've forfeited their right to be seen as anything but a monster. Even if it wasn't their choice to do so. None of that truly matters to you at all, does it?
[She knows arguing this point for Klaus of all people would never work in reality, because her brother has done monstrous things, but the scenario he's positing lacks compassion in every light, and she isn't going to let that slide.
This could have been Jackson or Hayley, or even Hope, should she have arrived in Wonderland after triggering her curse. Good people who would have processed this trauma in the exact same way. But she comes from a world where no one can keep their hands clean once they're embroiled in the supernatural, and maybe she's mired a little too firmly in shades of gray that she's lost perspective, even if she feels so surely that she's in the right here.]
[ Sam, previously a little deflated and very tired, perks up as she speaks, expression hardening. Sharpening. If they were friendly acquaintances at least, before, and friends at most, then this is the beginning of a betrayal. Maybe on both ends. ]
I never said I was a damn hero. You know what we do back home, and I told you: I'm not in the habit of letting killers run around unchecked here or there.
[ Even in Wonderland, there has to be some kind of structure to it all. ]
Dean turned into a demon and hurt people. Killed people, including me. It wasn't him, but he still had to face the consequences, and Klaus will, too. Even if it's not me dealing them out.
[ He's standing, looming. This is too important to not get his point across. ]
It doesn't matter if it'd been Evie or anyone else. Murder is murder, Freya. [ There's a strained, uncomfortable pause. ] You don't know what matters to me.
[And there's her brother's name. So he did figure it out, or someone told him, it doesn't really matter in the end. She knew he was smart, and it's not as though she was overly subtle.]
Murder requires intent. If there was intent in this case, there wouldn't have been a question as to who was responsible, and I wouldn't be trying to protect them.
[Klaus would have gloated and made a show of it, and there would be nothing she could do to protect him. And she isn't saying there wouldn't be consequences, or shouldn't be. But how do you police magic and the mirrors and Wonderland without punishing those undeserving?]
There's also the matter of the consequences fitting the crime, and I believe that killing someone for something beyond their control is excessive at the very least. Even if Wonderland will reverse it.
[Accountability isn't something Freya is used to caring about. A monster in a family of monsters, she didn't care so long as they were safe. But she knows they can't exist in a vacuum here or rely on reputations, and while she doesn't want to end things on a sour note, she does recognize when she's pushed things too far, and is too emotional to make it right in that moment.]
You're right. Perhaps we should leave it at that for today.
[She'd understand if he needs to step away and there are other aspects of this she can work on that she doesn't need Sam for.]
[ Sam just nods, shoulders stiff. At least she... agrees, if not understands. ]
... Anything else? [ He asks abruptly, seeming as if he's about to head for the door, which he is. There's a lot to do, to think about, these days, and arguing with her isn't on the list. ]
[ He won't storm - not exactly - but he will leave. The last thing he wants, or needs, in Wonderland is enemies. Sam also knows how powerful Freya is, and doesn't particularly want to be at odds with her, either, despite what happened.
There's a stiff pause, and then he offers: ] We'll talk again.

What's Lucifer's stake in all this, anyway?

[ He says evenly, because arguing with Freya, rather than Lucifer, about it is pointless. ]

I'm not interested in killing anyone. I just think - thought - that there should be some accountability.
[ Christ. And what's he going to tell Evie? Lie, obviously, after what he promised Lucifer... ]
I think we've both said enough. [ He concludes, shifting his weight uncomfortably. ] This is pretty unproductive so far.
