+ For Glory! For Death! +

Who: EVERYONE & Unwanted Guests
Where: The Grounds & The Palace
When: August 27th to 29th
Rating: PG-13 to R for fighting, violence, and death
Summary: Attackers from other realms threaten the Asgardian palace and your very lives! This is where you fight or flee, the place for all your combat mingle needs.
The Story:

+ Day 3 : Rock Trolls and Ogres +

Rock Trolls and Ogres are strong, tough and surprisingly fast, with great muscular bulk. Their sight is keen, and they hunger for human flesh. Fortunately they are lacking in tactical skill, and few to none will manage to break through Asgard's protective barrier to enter the palace. ( x ) ( x )

+ Day 4 : Frost Giants +

The Forst Giants will scare off yesterday's attackers almost entirely, bringing a greater threat to the palace. They are faster and stronger still, and skilled in cryokinesis. One touch by their hand might freeze a warrior whole, if they don't stop the spread of cold on time. Several of their numbers will manage to break through Asgard's protective barrier to enter the palace. ( x )

+ Day 5 : Dark Elves +

The Dark Elves are the last and greatest threat to Asgard. They rely on stealth and deadly energy weapons, their strength and craftiness yet unparalleled. They are weak to iron, and any warrior would be lucky to discover this weakness on time. They infiltrate the palace from the caves, and nearly all of their numbers will attack from the inside. ( x )

Her head tips to one side, the corner of her lip lifting just slightly. Without breaking eye contact, she takes another step toward him. "So we're just going to stand here while those things get closer?"

His pulse races at her approach. If he's right, this ends terribly for him. If he's wrong, then it might end just as badly. He maintains the eye contact as much as she does, but it's not out of any natural instinct. He can't look away. He can't take a stand like this and then immediately back down. But if the intent is Asgardian trickery and mind control, wouldn't she need eye contact? There might not be a way out of this with any level of safety. He swallows.

But then she reminds him of the larger threat, and he pulls his attention away and gives a longer look to the looming threat above them. They are getting closer. He scowls, and turns away from her to begin tearing down his setup. It'll at least give him a chance to signal to Jemma that something's come up, so she'll be aware that her alert level might want to jump up a notch.

"Thank you." Not because she thinks he's changed his mind about her—knowing her, or playing that he does, either way. If he's faking, this is all a very elaborate trap, though. Seems unlikely enough for her to withhold judgment for the time being.

Which doesn't mean trusting him.

"Do you need help with all of this, or got it under control?"

"It's designed for quick transport."

He'll unlatch several key fixtures and leave the mechanisms to fold in on themselves until they fold into something shaped like a briefcase.

"Wasn't planning on giving them time to crush me."

"In my experience, no one does." Her response is dry, a little humor in it, but an impersonal kind. She nods as she watches his equipment collapse. "If you're good here, I'm going to finish my sweep."

She doubts he's the only person still out here who shouldn't be.

"We can follow up on the rest of it later."

"... That's it?" He'll pause, gaping at her a bit. He was expecting something more aggressive or malicious than that. "You're just rounding people up?"

"Until someone has a better idea."

More or less. It could be less rounding up and more lending a hand at times, but that's not a distinction she sees a point in making.

"So unless you wanted to go back to the part where you pulled a gun on me&mdash" She cuts off more abruptly than intended as one of the giants coming their way shoves the other, making it lose its footing and stumble their direction.
hypoxic: (would you hear it?)

She's asking him for his opinion instead of telling him what it should be. She's on the defensive, focused on things that aren't him. If she was trying to manipulate him, she'd be doing a terrible job of it. And that means:

"You're back but you don't remember."

It's not the first time. It probably won't be the last. But it means he's returning to his case, flipping it over, and opening a compartment on the opposite end.

"You're going to need thermal equipment. The giants are walking levels of absolute zero."

He'll throw a gun to her, confident that she'll catch it.

"We're experimenting with heat lasers, but I've not heard back from the Captain about levels of effectiveness yet. It might explode."

There was never any question. Throwing a gun like that, she picks it out of the air easily, then looking over how it fits in her hand grimly. What he's saying only raises more questions, and there's still no time to pursue answers.

She doesn't miss the implications any more than she misses the gun, though.

"Rogers is here?" In the long run, that could be complicated. In the short term, she can't think of many people she'd rather have on her side fighting giants more.

"Bit of a mishmash from our world. We can go over it in more detail later. The Captain and the Scarlet Witch are both out there -- I think. Unless there's been another explosion from our world, I believe those are the only Avengers you can expect."

One of them is stomping close enough for the ground to vibrate. Fitz shrinks back, collecting his belongings once more. He does his best to channel Coulson next, rattling information in a long string.

"The ones dressed Asgardian are civilians mostly -- they're under a compulsion to fight. There's a mansion a quarter mile in that direction; we can meet back there for further debriefing when things are less. Well. This."

A nod, quick. She accepts this answer for now, since for now it's the best she's got and the bigger concerns are getting bigger by the moment. She backs up a few steps, looking for cover.

"You have a name?" The manner is familiar. The face, not so much. If she had to make a guess, she'd be relatively confident saying he is or was with SHIELD. If not, then some other agency.

"Agent Leopold Fitz." He doesn't waste her time with more than that. She's far better equipped for the physical end of things than he could hope to be. Even given the scope of the "mansion" as a vague concept, he's confident that he'll see her sooner rather than later. The Black Widow is trustworthy, at least. Even if the rest of them aren't.

"Agent," she says with a quick nod. That's one suspicion confirmed. She files the name away for later consideration; for now, she pats the gun in her hands thoughtfully, getting used to the feel of it.

Then she's gone, circling wide around the giants and keeping an eye out for anyone else doing the same, or anyone not who should be.
