The puppy gets to go home
Who: Newt and YOU!
Where: Anywhere. Newt is running about touching rifts to try and get himself back to Wonderland each time it passes.
When: Duration of the event
Rating: PG will update if anything changes
Summary: The moment Newt finds himself in one moment of Hogwarts, even Hogwarts future, he will keep working to get there again. This leaves openings for so many moments in Hogwarts - as well as any other event you want to throw at him! Open for anything.
The Story:
The first time Newt sees one of the shimmering rips, he is hesitant. The last one like that he saw led to him seeing Tina executed. Because of him.
Yet Newt's own nature gets the better of him, and he can't resist moving closer. Not even realizing he's touched it until he finds himself standing in the middle of a very familiar classroom. Nothing seems to have changed in potions since he himself attended Hogwarts.
Laughing, he starts exploring a school he knows well, seeking out whatever changes their might be. Exploring the quidditch pitch on foot and with broom, the classrooms, even seeking out the Hufflepuff common room, delighting in a chance to be back at Hogwarts since he was kicked out.
Whenever he finds himself back in Wonderland though, Newt starts seeking out other of those rips, trying to find his way back to Hogwarts. It is taking the chance with whatever kinds of worlds and events he might experience, but that's worth it in his mind to find Hogwarts again.

dining room;
Others have told him they've never seen events repeat, and so he expects this will be his last chance to see anything about Hogwarts in this place.
"Exactly! And long as you stay out of the lake, and the forests, that shouldn't be a problem," he says, smiling widely. "Seems my petition for a lake creature was granted at some point after my time here. It's a squid!" He says with all the delight of a new parent.
"So beyond those, and the centaurs in the woods, we should be perfectly fine. Worse that ever happened to me here was caused by another student, and then of course, being expelled. Again, not likely to happen to you."
no subject
She's not even going to touch centaurs. Nope. This is more than enough for one day. Chloe huffs out a breath and raises her wand up, peering at it. If they are stuck here for the time being, there isn't really much point in going around in circles. This is Newt's world, and he seems delighted to be here, and she couldn't have asked for a better guide.
"You don't think I can find a way to get expelled in an hour?" She smiles, turning her attention back to her robes, running her hands over them thoughtfully. "This get up definitely makes me feel wizard... ery. So," Chloe raises up the wand in her hand, shaking it in Newt's direction. "How do I use this thing?"
no subject
Her words nearly make him flinch and he gives her a small look before ducking his head. "Perhaps, though you don't seem to be carry about any sort of creature on you. That's how I managed it. At least how they managed to get me expelled," he says, his voice soft as he looks down the hall rather than at Chloe. "But if you want to try, you're more than welcome to."
He couldn't imagine why anyone would try! But to each their own.
"Well, with the proper words, intonation and movement." His hand dips into his pocket, pulling out a gold coin he probably shouldn't have still, but Niffler had apparently kept it and now it reminds him of the darling creature. Trouble that he is.
Moving to a table, he sets it on the table.
"Imagining it's levitating, and then..." He gives his wand a flick and swish. "Leviosa!"
The coin lifted, floating. "Just like that," he said, letting the coin fall and rattle against the table.
no subject
She offers him a teasing smile. Whatever he did, Chloe is sure it was probably completely idiotic and equally selfless. Newt seems like the type.
Chloe watches him, her mouth dropping open as the coin rises into the air. No matter what she sees in Wonderland, she finds that she never quite gets used to any of it. Every new impossible thing is amazing to her.
"Wow," she says. She moves closer to it, passing her palm over and under it, as if she's checking to see if he's cheating. She sort of it. "Why do you have to do the catch phrase? Can't you just wiggle the stick at it?"
no subject
And he had lived with that his entire life since that moment but never talked about it, or the truth behind it.
"Some can. I can," he said. "Though that's years of practice. Some never master wordless spells. It's the combination of them, and the nature of the witch or wizard, that allows them to work magic," he says, slowly lowering the wand. "Would you like to try?"
no subject
Not unlike what happened with her father. A man was imprisoned and died, while the real killer walked free. She shakes her head. "Well... That's irresponsible of the school. Please tell me they got it figured out."
Her eyes move to his wand, her lip brushing against her bottom lip thoughtfully. Surely, if she can shoot a gun, she can at least get the hang of a stick. "Can I even do it? I'm not a witch," she reminds him.
no subject
And he never heard from her again either.
Slowly he raises his gaze almost to her. "It's Wonderland. Of course you can because here, you are a witch."
no subject
She frowns deeply, annoyed on his behalf. There isn't much that can be done about it, though, and Chloe's respect for him hasn't changed. Newt might be a little shy and awkward and, well... Weird. But he's a good person, and that's what is important to her.
She nods, a little beside herself. She knew Newt of course, and had seen Freya's magic at work, but knowing she has magic herself, just by being here? It's not something she can easily believe.
Chloe holds up her wand and takes a breath. She points it at the coin, clearing her throat and trying not to sound silly when she says, "Leviosa." Of course, the coin just sits there. Chloe's frown deepens as she looks at him. "You sure about this?"
no subject
He smiles as she tries, giving a nod. "Okay, try this way. Exact pronunciation is important. Wingardium Leviosa." Not all need the full incantation, but here he hadn't known what might be needed.
no subject
Trying to shrug it off, she offers him a tight smile, turning back to the coin and raising her wand. Chloe clears her throat, pointing the wand straight ahead and copying his exact pronunciation; "Wingardium Leviosa."
The coin shakes a little, gently lifting just a few inches off the table. Chloe's mouth drops open, and she glances at Newt. "Holy crap, it worked."
no subject
Grinning as the coin lifts. Not because of the magic, but because of Chloe's reaction to the magic. "Yes, holy crap," he says, most certainly teasing. "It certainly did. You just practiced magic," he points out, looking proud and happy. Not just because of magic and sharing it, but because she got this chance to have magic in her life.
He felt that was important, especially having the chance to share it. Newt truly believes that could save things in his world between the wizarding world and muggles.
no subject
"I just... Did magic. That is a phrase I never thought I would say." It sounds completely insane coming out of her mouth, but there is an edge of complete amazement that she finds overwhelming. Chloe has to let it sink in for a minute, lowering the wand as she stares at the coin, as if she is expecting it to move again and prove that she had nothing to do with what just happened.
"I didn't think it would be that easy," she admits. "Is that the kind of thing they teach here?"
no subject
And he'd do what he could to ensure nothing else in this place caused her harm either.
"They certainly do. We have classes all through the day, of transfiguration, potion making, divination and numerous other classes. It teaches those that have the spark of magic in them how to manage and use it properly."
no subject
There is a new tint to her voice, though; something closer to humor, maybe even excitement. Wonderland has given Chloe little to be excited about, even if she is continually fascinated by the people she's met there. That said, having the friends she does keeps her fully aware of the danger she is skirting every day, on the chance something could go terribly wrong.
Here, though, she feels more relaxed. She trusts Newt not to let her do anything that would hurt her and, for once, she feels like she might be able to enjoy something about this terrible place.
"Transfig... Can you translate that to English?"
no subject
He has tried to look at so much of Wonderland in this way. It is all about new chances, new opportunities, and he plans to take advantage of them as much as he can. Not to mention wanting others to take the same chances.
"Transfiguration is turning one object into another. Such as..." He flicked the wand, and the coin that they'd been using twisted and bucked, changing from a flat coin into a gilded orb, engraved, with flittering wings. It bucked and skittered on the table.
no subject
The only magic her world does have has been hidden from her in a calculated manner. There is so much about it she wants to understand, and so much she knows she won't have time to learn in Wonderland, especially with the knowledge of losing it all when she returns home. Chloe still hasn't decided if knowing she'll go back to her unbelieving, ignorant self will be better or worse.
Her eyes widen again as she watches the gold sphere flutter over the table. "That's incredible." She turns her head to look at Newt. "What do you do with all these powers? I mean, like, as a society. I'm guessing you don't go through all of this schooling so you can sit around floating coins and turning spoons in forks so you don't have to do dishes."
no subject
"It makes me wonder then if they're hidden in your world as they are in mine. The magical people in your world. If they exist," he says, smiling and allowing for the possibility that they don't exist, though he wonders now.
"It's a child's toy," he admits. "We call it a snitch and use them for a flying game on brooms called Quidditch. As for the magic? Much as your world does for science from what I can tell. To make our world easier to live in, to protect ourselves, and to study the world around us, muggle and wizarding alike."
no subject
It makes her wonder, too. Chloe would have never even considered such a thing, but knowing what she does now about God and Lucifer and angels, believing things could exist like magic or vampires or werewolves in her world isn't as foreign as she once would have believed. "I used to read my daughter stories about it. But that's all it ever was, just stories. I'm not so sure anymore, though. I've found out a lot of things I never knew about my world before and honestly, even I can't deny that maybe it does exist in my world and I just don't know."
She hates the idea, only because she hates not knowing if something is true or not. It doesn't really matter in scheme of things; after all, she'll forget everything she has learned here when she goes home. Chloe will go back to being her skeptical self, missing all of the excitement and fear that comes with the realization that the world is so much bigger than you could ever imagine.
"Snitch means a really different thing where I come from," she laughs. "So it's part of a sport?"
