Who: EVERYONE, but especially you!
Where: Wonderland Ballroom
When: New Year's Eve
Rating: PG - PG13 (will change if applicable)
Summary: New Year's Eve Party
The Story:
[ Previously in the month all residents received an invitation to a formal event: a black tie affair to ring in the New Year. The ballroom and adjacent areas are decked out for the party starting at eight o'clock sharp, meticulously planned and executed, glittering dƩcor to match the no doubt glittering attire as music pours into the halls from the dance floor.

[ Where will you be when the clock strikes midnight? ]

He sees the glass of rum sitting in front of Rip and motions to it with a hand.]
A bar as fancy as this serves rum, I presume?
no subject
[...Or perhaps not. As Rip picks up his own glass for another sip, he also turns to get a better look at the man. An unfamiliar voice could lead to potential opportunity, and part of Rip's goal this night is to get a better feel for those about the mansion. And yet when he does take that appraising glance, there's a rather obvious oddity where the man's left hand should be.]
That's a rather interesting choice of accessory. [One which would likely stun Rip more if he hadn't already made the acquaintance of Regina Mills. But he doesn't mention that just yet; after all, they might not be from the same world. This man might somehow not be the infamous pirate of fairytales--although that would be something of a surprise should it be the case.]

He runs his fingers down the sides of his face and swings around to Rip instead, his hook tapping against the counter.]
Ah, this? [He raises it a little, just enough that it catches the light.] Figured it might spark some conversation.
[Lo and behold, it did.]
It has its uses, you'd be surprised. Not so bad a replacement for a hand -- you get used to it after a while.
no subject
(As Rip himself will sometimes do on his worst days.)]
Iād certainly hope soāespecially depending on how much rum you plan on drinking. [A out of control drunken man with a sharp hook on the end of his arm really doesnāt sound like a fun time in Ripās estimation. But assuming the man truthful enough, ideally it wonāt be an issue.]
Rip Hunter, by the way. [Introductions are the standard in these types of situation, and Rip holds out his right hand for a proper shake.] Pleasure.
no subject
[And he's more than happy to perpetuate that stereotype, because he can appreciate a good drink when given the opportunity. Whether it's at a rundown tavern just off the ports or at an upscale party like this one doesn't matter much to him.
When Rip extends his hand, Killian accepts and gives him a firm shake.]
Killian Jones. [He pauses, and taps his hook consciously against the table again.] Although I'm beginning to think that people know me here under another name.
no subject
Although how dissimilar they are remains to be seen.
In the meantime, he nods at the introduction, and the implication that follows. So the man is aware of his potential infamy.] It's likely so. "Captain Hook" is a rather famous character among the pantheon of childhood tales. [One that's survive even into Rip's time, centuries after the original story had been told.]
But even so--the version they know is not necessarily you. [Which is Rip's way of saying that he doesn't intend to judge a pirate by his fairytale. He's already well aware of how the multiverse works, after all.] So. Well met, Captain Jones.
no subject
[He shakes his head, exhaling a laugh through his nose.]
Pan is depicted as some kind of hero in these tales. And I will make every concerted effort to not become the man they think I am.
[What with the perms and ugly mustaches. No thanks, that's not really his style.]
And what of your world? I've learned to assume that not many of us are from the same?
no subject
Definitely not, in this case. Although... [He considers those incredible "characters" he knows from his home universe, all quite real to him, but so extraordinary to so many. After all, the world at large is only just becoming acquainted with superheroes in the time most of them are from.] ...I suppose a number of those I'm acquainted with might seem the stuff of legend all the same.
no subject
Legends?
[That's quite the word. The legends he knows of are the stories passed down through centuries. Ursula the sea witch, the Eye of the Storm, which ended up not being a legend afterall, Pegasus... nothing he's really had the opportunity to meet.]
What makes them so?
no subject
Sheer stubbornness, mostly. Their belief that in spite of everything they might be told, and whatever odds that they face, they'll somehow manage to triumph all the same.
[And how they have, first against Vandal Savage, andāif what Rip has been told is to be believedāagainst the Legion of Doom.]
no subject
[He can't help but laugh a little at the irony of it. Emma, Snow, especially David... and even Regina to an extent. They are all unbelievably hard-headed even for him, but it was always something that got them where they are now. The sheer unwillingness to give up on what they've set their minds to, even if it's not the brightest of plans.]
The one thing all heroes have in common. Where would they be without it...
no subject
[Either in the general sense of the term or the specific group whose members Rip counts just then. He drains a bit more of his glass--not greedily so, but it's clear he's used to the drink and the way it burns--then casts another glance towards Killian.]
I think a certain amount of stubbornness is required to be featured in those stories at all, regardless of where one falls on the moral scale. The greater variable is just what someone is being stubborn about.
no subject
And what sort of things were these legends stubborn about? Surely not stopping dark curses. I'd be a bit surprised if that were the case.
