[NYE Party] happy new year and lots of fun

Who: EVERYONE, but especially you!
Where: Wonderland Ballroom
When: New Year's Eve
Rating: PG - PG13 (will change if applicable)
Summary: New Year's Eve Party
The Story:

[ Previously in the month all residents received an invitation to a formal event: a black tie affair to ring in the New Year. The ballroom and adjacent areas are decked out for the party starting at eight o'clock sharp, meticulously planned and executed, glittering dΓ©cor to match the no doubt glittering attire as music pours into the halls from the dance floor.

Bars flank each side, service for all manner of alcohol unless a minor requests something, and the primary setting stage features an enormous clock for the countdown.

[ Where will you be when the clock strikes midnight? ]

[ the first time peggy heard any of the songs of this particular album, the mansion had been in the throes of an event. she had been living some alternate, parallel life -- making a living as someone's personal assistant -- and had chanced upon someone else singing to himself. the moment had left such an impression that later, well after the event had passed, peggy found herself thinking about it.

...and the second time she'd heard a song, albeit not one from the same album, it had been at a gathering similarish to this one. a wedding, however. the start of something big. after all, it was only after that night that the elton john record started appearing in among the albums curated for her wednesday evenings visiting mister hunter's room.

honestly, she hasn't quite had the guts to put it on the record player just yet. ]

More like a favourite side. [ peggy offers -- skating her way through this conversation in a way she'd not been able to manage during the last even when she and natasha spoke. ] The whole first one. Sometimes, I don't even flip it over. I merely move the needle back.

The whole side, hm? You know, I don't think it's that uncommon.

[A sides, after all. Natasha smiles a little, her head tilting. Funny to see someone so cagey and unspecific about something as mundane as music. Maybe that's how much people feel about her?

Probably not, though. For Natasha, it's more of a puzzle than a frustration.]

Well, I wouldn't have guessed, it, but I can see it. I'm Still Standing, right?

-- Have you got a favourite, Miss Romanoff?

[ and she doesn't just mean off that album, or of that artist. the floor is wide open. as though, just maybe, she's taking suggestions. it seems it might make for an easier path than their current one. ]

Me? I don't know if I have a lot of favorites. But I like a lot of things.

[It's definitely a better move on Peggy's part. And it works for Natasha.]

All things considered, I should probably say Stravinsky. [Wryly.] How about we'll go with some Nancy Sinatra for now. And Johnny Cash has a hell of a cover of Hurt.

[Keeping it accessible.]

Nancy Sinatra.

[ look, she can't hear a name like that and not assume. ]

Good Lord, Nancy with the Laughing Face?

She grows up. Has a career of her own.

[As happens.]
mucked: (β˜‚ maybe fake's what i like)

[personal profile] mucked 2018-01-20 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ she'd love to say good on her -- but of late, back home, peggy's had a bit of an eyeful of showbiz's sordid underbelly. and without knowing the details, she isn't quick to sing praises. ]

Does she become a crooner like her father?
outstandingbalance: (pic#10792495)

[personal profile] outstandingbalance 2018-01-20 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Crooning might not be the word for it any more, but she had a few hits as a singer.
mucked: (β˜‚ oats in the water)

[personal profile] mucked 2018-01-20 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose I'll be adding her to the list.

[ -- although peggy finds she can't generate anything from the closets that she doesn't already know. there's the library to consider, of course, but beyond that she relies on those she trusts to give her a hand in situations like these. ]

Any other suggestions while we're at it, Miss Romanoff?
outstandingbalance: (pic#9477603)

[personal profile] outstandingbalance 2018-01-20 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. For music. I'd say look into some Motown. You might find some things you like there.
mucked: (β˜‚ finally taking flight)

[personal profile] mucked 2018-01-20 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll have to give it a listen. [ -- because she's not wrong: ] Just about anything would be better than more AC/DC.

[personal profile] outstandingbalance 2018-01-20 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Just stay far away from bands with names like the Sex Pistols or Gwar. You'll be fine.
mucked: (β˜‚ all that i used to take)

[personal profile] mucked 2018-01-20 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
-- Well, now I'm curious. You should know better than to suggest something be avoided and think that they will, indeed, be avoided.

If it turns out I'm wrong and you love Anarchy in the UK, let me know. I'll adjust my suggestions accordingly.
mucked: (β˜‚ or put it on hold again)

[personal profile] mucked 2018-01-20 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ -- she's quite certain that anarchy in the uk is the complete opposite of her job description. and yet, pleased with the banter, she continues to smile. ]

I suppose that means I ought to report back once I've had a listen. [ a little cheeky, but well within the reason. ] Although my gut tells me you're likely right.

[Natasha is always likely right. She keeps that comment to herself though.]

You will. Maybe if you're curious I'll tell you about why that happened. You can tell a lot about the politics of a country from its music.
mucked: (β˜‚ and exactly who's to blame)

[personal profile] mucked 2018-01-22 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ -- natasha certainly can keep the comment to herself. it doesn't need saying; peggy worded it that way with that very same assumption in mind. ]

Well-versed in British politics, are you?

[ no doubt, no doubt. ]
outstandingbalance: (pic#10792661)

[personal profile] outstandingbalance 2018-01-22 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well-versed in Cold War politics. Britain certainly featured.

[A political climate not irrelevant to the Britain's anarchist and punk music scene.]

A little before my time, but you know what they say about history.
mucked: (β˜‚ and i'll throw you the rope)

[personal profile] mucked 2018-01-22 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, I do.

[ whether she believes it or not -- well, maybe she merely wishes she didn't believe it. history repeats itself. it'd be nice if for once it wouldn't. ]

I suppose asking about it would be a bit like skipping ahead in the storybook.
outstandingbalance: (pic#10580755)

[personal profile] outstandingbalance 2018-01-23 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. I don't know that I have anything against reading the last page first.

[After all, intel is what keeps people like them alive.]

But it does seem like borrowing trouble.

mucked: (β˜‚ i know you don't think it's right)

[personal profile] mucked 2018-01-23 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially given the big old goose egg that we supposedly remember when we leave this place.
outstandingbalance: (pic#10580762)

[personal profile] outstandingbalance 2018-01-26 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Especially considering that. Seems worth thinking just how much you actually want to know.
mucked: (β˜‚ what's been happening)

[personal profile] mucked 2018-01-26 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid I know exactly how much I want to know -- [ that is, all of it. she's not shy on that front. ] But it's been brought to my attention on more than one occasion that a want like that isn't necessarily a good thing.

It's a tough pill to swallow for -- [ well, a spy. ] For all sorts of reasons.
outstandingbalance: (pic#10792490)

[personal profile] outstandingbalance 2018-01-28 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there's wants and there's wants. Sometimes you want things that you know you don't really want.

[Emotions and rational minds aren't always in agreement.]
mucked: (β˜‚ talk and talk and talk)

[personal profile] mucked 2018-01-28 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
-- Oh, how true that is.

[ but her eyes don't budge an inch off natasha. ]

Still. I'm hoping a bit of curiosity won't turn into too much a sin. It's hard not to learn new things. Damn near every day, something crops up.

[ just...generally. tech, pop culture, the inevitable march of progress. ]
