i ~ day one ~ gardens
What in Andraste's name..?

[He's outside when the ship arrives. He doesn't feel any fear, but he reasons that he might well be too terrified of what he's seeing to fully register it. His first thought is that this is something to do with the Mirrors, with the Queens, until good sense tells him that this is far beyond anything that he has seen from any of them before.

It looks like some kind of creature, though with the sheer scale it's hard to imagine it as anything else.

But Nathaniel is a rogue and a scout, and he does what people in his line of work tend to do - he gets in closer to investigate. Not close enough to touch it, and not close enough to go inside (trapped in unfamiliar territory with a potential enemy? No, thank you) but he returns to the gardens around the mansion later in the day looking strangely agitated.
]

Do you hear that? I'm sure I can hear something.

ii ~ day three/four ~ mansion
[In the Wardens, there's always a noise, like a background of static, musical notes just too far out of reach to be properly heard. In Wonderland they're free of it, for the most part, but Nathaniel barely notices the intrusion of something that sounds so much like the song of the Blight.

His thoughts are on the Reaper. It's not difficult to keep his thoughts on the Reaper, given the sheer size of it and the peculiar pieces of technology popping up around the mansion. At first he had thought it best not to go anywhere near them, but in time, he'd begun to wonder just how much harm it could do.

After all, the pieces of tech aren't... doing anything. They're just sitting there, humming with a tone that's a peculiar temptation by itself. How much harm could it to to just... examine them a little more closely?

iii ~ day five ~ mansion/grounds
[Nathaniel will, in the days that follow this event, question himself heavily on how easily he was drawn into the trap set for them by the Reapers. He will question how he was so easy to persuade, and what it really means about his strength of character.

Right now, though, on the event's final day, none of those concerns are on his mind any longer. Nathaniel walks the mansion's hallways and the grounds outside, idly checking over the spikes and jutting, curved blossoms of alien technology scattered about.

This is what's best. Of course it is. Once the Reaper has them all, everything will be fine.

Day 1

[personal profile] forwearemany 2018-05-01 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
(They patrol the grounds, warning people not to approach the Old machine. It is this that brings them to the gardens, where they encounter the man.)

Negative.

(They hear nothing.)

... Are you sure?

[He is, admittedly, slightly startled by Legion's presence. It only lasts a moment, though, before he presses through the discomfort brought on by the machine's uncanny appearance and continues.]

I could... [Ah, but it's gone. Nathaniel frowns.] Must have been nothing.

[personal profile] forwearemany 2018-05-05 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
(They chatter, headflaps lifting and shifting. They are pleased that he does not seem to fear them, but also concerned.)

Hallucinations are a sign of early stage indoctrination. Avoiding further contact with all Reaper technology is recommended.
noble_son: (55)

[personal profile] noble_son 2018-05-06 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It can't happen that quickly, can it?

[Surely not. Even the Blight doesn't take hold so quickly, and he's seen men and women alike fall to it within half a day.]

And how does one avoid contact with... [A gesture goes up at the Reaper.] that?
forwearemany: (halved)

[personal profile] forwearemany 2018-05-06 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It is possible. We do not recommend 'taking chances'.

(There are few people who would want to be used by the Reapers, after all.)

Do not approach it. Keep an eye out for unfamiliar technology that may have originated from it. Be vigilant for signs of indoctrination in those around you.

[personal profile] noble_son 2018-05-07 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't take chances if I can help it... [Nathaniel mutters, half to himself as he hears that whispering briefly again, only for it to fade as quickly as it rose. Ah, that is concerning...]

Simple enough. What are the signs?
forwearemany: (halved)

[personal profile] forwearemany 2018-05-17 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
(They chatter a moment, headflaps shifting and rippling.)

Indoctrination starts with hallucinations, attraction to Reaper artifacts. As it progresses, those afflicted become aggressive, lose functionality, and devote themselves to serving the Reapers.
noble_son: (36)

[personal profile] noble_son 2018-05-20 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah.

[Hallucinations. Maker, he hopes that whatever he was hearing wasn't caused by that thing.]

Is there a cure?
forwearemany: (Headflaps)

[personal profile] forwearemany 2018-05-22 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Negative.

(They pause a moment, considering, then amend their previous statement.)

Death. We recommend avoiding this outcome.

(Stay the fuck away from the Reapers, Nathaniel.)
noble_son: (47)

[personal profile] noble_son 2018-05-26 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Good recommendation.

[Yes. Avoiding death would be a very good thing. Nathaniel has no wish to die because of this.]

Uh, thanks. I'll keep away from it.

[Though, as he will soon discover, just keeping away from it isn't going to be enough.]
forwearemany: (Flashlight)

[personal profile] forwearemany 2018-05-28 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Affirmative.

(And they're pretty sure he's been sufficiently warned, so they just... stand there. They are unsure of whether further interaction is warranted.)

[ It isn't exactly accurate to say that she's been ignoring him. Rather, the Warden has been trying her best to both escort residents to safety while also keeping herself from bending to the Reapers' indoctrination, to the thrum, like the Calling, that exists in the back of her mind. Always, these days.

It isn't a surprise that Nathaniel finds her on the grounds as she returns to a safer distance from the Reaper (she knows its name only because Legion had once told her about it). ]

... Nathaniel, you should get to safety. [ Robyn says slowly, but - she worries. He's just come from the direction of the mansion, which may mean... ]

Are you - well?
noble_son: (21)

[personal profile] noble_son 2018-05-05 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm perfectly safe, Robyn, don't worry.

[Robyn is an intelligent woman, and even in the state he's in, Nathaniel has some awareness of that fact. It flags her up, immediately, as a danger to everything they're trying to achieve.

As little as a day ago he could have argued against that instinct. He could have pushed it down while he gently warned her away from the mansion, the Reaper, everything... But now?
]

And I've never felt better. [It's funny that he says that, because he doesn't look particularly well.] Everything is as it should be.
heroica: (i still remain the same)

[personal profile] heroica 2018-05-07 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Not good. Not good at all. Her heart flutters, because she knows that this 'positive' attitude is nothing like what Nathaniel likely feels about the situation. None of them are safe, and no one should feel 'good' with a Reaper influencing their minds, threatening them all.

She swallows. ]

Will you come with me, then? For a bit of a walk?

[ Into the caves, perhaps, and away from the mansion? ]
noble_son: (08)

[personal profile] noble_son 2018-05-08 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's a good try, but Nathaniel's too far gone now for gentle maneuvering. He only smiles - not an unpleasant smile, but an unsettling one for how it sits oddly on his face, like it doesn't belong there.]

Must I? It's perfectly fine here.

[Even Shepard agrees. Didn't Robyn see that?]

Come on, I'll show you.
heroica: (Default)

[personal profile] heroica 2018-05-11 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been in the mansion, actually. It's the caves I wanted to visit. [ There's a strained pause. ] Surely you want to go there, too? To convince the people there that everything in the mansion is all right?

[ If he's trying to get them closer to the Reaper, he'll have to go there to do so, won't he? ]
noble_son: (47)

[personal profile] noble_son 2018-05-12 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's another smile. Another of those expressions that doesn't quite seem to fit on his face. Like someone else is pulling the strings and forcing the expression.]

There's really no need for that. They'll see it's all right without my help. [The Reaper will find them all, eventually, no matter how well they hide. Can't she see that? There's nothing they can do, but if they help it, they might be spared.

He steps closer to her. She's here. He can show her.
]

Let me show you. You can tell them.
heroica: ('cause what's in a name)

[personal profile] heroica 2018-05-16 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I already know. [ He steps closer and she doesn't move away, but her smile is overtly forced, her nerves fraying just beneath the surface. ] And I will tell them once I get there. I can't well do that without going to them, can I?

[ What to do? How can she break this curse that's befallen him? ]

Have you seen Garrett, or Cullen?
noble_son: (54)

[personal profile] noble_son 2018-05-20 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen Cullen. [Hawke, no, but Cullen has been making his presence known.] He's been in the mansion. He thinks he's helping, but he just doesn't understand.

[He doesn't, but they can make him understand. It doesn't make any sense to keep fighting, to keep destroying everything they're trying to build.

Nathaniel moves to take Robyn's arm, the grip deceptively loose.
]

It's going to be alright.

i ~ day one ~ gardens
My... This place continues to surprise me. [There's something in the vampire's voice that sounds almost impressed as he observes the Reaper from near the mansion doors. It's a grim sight, to be sure, and like nothing he's ever seen in his long life even on the field of battle. The scale of siege towers and trebuchets, the war machines of the age on the Continent, are nothing compared with this. He's quite sure they wouldn't make a dent.

But there's something about it. Not anything that bypasses his wariness of it, given Shepard's quite pointed missive on the subject (which is enough to keep him back, for the moment), but something, surely, that piques more than just simple curiosity.

It's fascinating, isn't it, though? How could anyone not want to go and take a closer look? He glances to someone standing near to him, saying--
]

What do you suppose it's doing?

ii ~ day two/three ~ mansion
[He doesn't go near it, but as it turns out, he doesn't need to. It isn't long before the Reaper tech is being brought into the mansion and built in the mansion and even someone who keeps to themselves would have had difficulties avoiding it. It starts cropping up everywhere, on every floor, in the hallways and empty rooms, the already-Indoctrinated working on it like so many bees. It starts with the artifacts, but quite soon it's far more.

And it's still interesting. Regis is sure he should leave, like many others are doing, and yet he doesn't. Holding far too much faith in his ability to resist whatever brainwashing this alien life form might impose on them he stays, looking into rooms and idly peering over people's shoulders, all the while turning more and more to the idea that this could actually be a good thing. It has everyone working together towards a common goal, after all. The kind of unity that Wonderland so often lacks.

But he's fine. No, he can walk right out and away from this thing whenever he wants to.
]

iii ~ day four/five ~ mansion/grounds
[There's something strangely ironic about a vampire being in thrall, but Regis will find nothing funny about it when this particular event is over. Wonderland has imposed many things on him, but this is the first time it has entirely removed his sense of self.

By the morning of the fifth day after the Reaper lands, Regis' mind is no longer his own to command. He does well to hide it, though, and certainly appears to be functioning normally as he continues to walk the halls and gardens of the mansion. One could easily be convinced into believing that he had been able to avoid being Indoctrinated entirely by means that were innate to him as a creature of powerful magic, as he quite normally greets anyone that he sees on these days with a smile and a pleasant enquiry as to how they are coping with the current disaster.

He might even offer to help out with whatever people need to do. He's seen some of the other Indoctrinated using violence, and though the urge does itch under his skin, he sees more benefit in keeping people alive... for now.

day four;

[personal profile] morework 2018-05-01 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Alone Cullen can do nothing else for the mansion. The devices are too numerous now, and most of the people- have either fallen to the Reaper's power, or made it to safety. Or died, fighting for one side or the other. The fourth day breaks, and Cullen prays that the event ends tomorrow. If it does not, then the ones who are still themselves will need a plan.

Until then Cullen intends to join them. His own injuries require more attention than he has given them so far. But he still walks, towards the mansion's exit. Worse is the exhaustion, not of body but of mind. Familiar, despite worlds separating the cause. A weariness that cries give in, give in, and promises to quiet blissfully if he does.

Cullen groans to himself and keeps walking, until the familiar figure appears at the other end of the corridor. The sinking feeling in Cullen's stomach is- only precaution. He will have relief in no time. Please.

Maker, please.

No need to draw his attention when Regis' head is already turned in the right direction, but Cullen lifts his hand to greet him all the same.

[Everything is going as it should. Regis had felt panic at first, when he had no longer been able to tell if his mind was his own or under the Reaper's influence, but that worry has been left far behind. He knows now that every thought he has had over the course of this event has been his own, and that this is exactly what they needed.

He senses Cullen before he sees him, his own instincts not dulled by the creature's power, and deep under the Indoctrination there's a flicker of concern for someone he considers to be a good friend.
]

You look terrible. [The vampire says, a moment after lifting his hand up in a return greeting and beginning to walk towards him. Regis doesn't look quite as put together as he usually does, but regeneration does wonders.] This is taking its toll on all of us.

[His voice is soft, sympathetic, exactly what one might expect as he places a gentle hand on Cullen's shoulder.]

A moment's rest wouldn't go amiss, wouldn't you agree?

Nothing fucking good.

[ Tactful as ever, this one. Michonne has her katana on her back as she stands and watches, eyes narrowed. Based on what Shepard said, it's the only conclusion she can come up with. ]

People are gonna need to get as far away from the mansion as possible. Hide. So this thing can't indoctrinate people like Shepard was talkin' about.

[ And yet? People are stupid and curious and that's just how it goes. Stupid and curious gets people killed, so yeah. She has an opinion, and she's taking the people she loves and getting somewhere as far away from that thing as possible. ]

You had somewhere in mind?

[He would be lying if he said he'd never run from anything. Regis has run from many things in his life, and it would be sensible to also run from this. And yet, perhaps it's the sheer scale of the thing that makes it difficult to comprehend the level of danger that they might be in.]

This place is somewhat limited in that regard.

Water, maybe. Or underground, in the caves.

[ Michonne isn't one to back down, not usually. But she's made a family for herself here, she loves someone who's loved hard and lost too much before and Michonne can't do it to her again. ]

But it's good to know that they have some options.

Do you think that will be far enough? Shepard gave us no idea as to this creature's range.

I'd rather die trying to get people somewhere safe than die standin' here wondering about it.

I know the Captain. Whole family would try to help if we asked.
mandrakes: (061)

[personal profile] mandrakes 2018-05-12 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Good. [He follows her eyeline when it moves, knowing where the ship is but not who would captain it.]

How many could fit aboard?
thesamurai: (💀 45)

[personal profile] thesamurai 2018-05-13 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Forty or fifty, comfortably. More if people don't get huffy about personal space. We have about a hundred residents.

[ It would probably be impossible to get everyone on the Jolly Roger, and some people will just want to go their own way, period. ]

If this thing goes after people to...turn them, it's gonna go where it thinks the people are. Which is right here.

[ The mansion itself. ]
mandrakes: (011)

[personal profile] mandrakes 2018-05-13 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I got the impression from Shepard that it's intelligent. [Regis murmurs, though he glances over his shoulder at the mansion, evidently seeing her point.]

Could you be sure that isolating so many people in one place with no exit wouldn't present its own problem?
thesamurai: (💀 23)

[personal profile] thesamurai 2018-05-14 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
No. But can we say that about any place? Caves have one way in and out. Tunnels are narrow, cramped.

[ She agrees that the Reaper sounds smart, which begs the question why the hell people are getting close to it? ]
mandrakes: (012)

[personal profile] mandrakes 2018-05-18 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[A small nod.]

Limited options, but every one should be explored. The size of this place can be deceptive, but we are most certainly in an enclosed space, here.

[It doesn't seem that he's entirely speaking to her as he goes on, voice sliding to a curious-sounding murmur as he considers just where the people here could go to escape this creature.]

People will start to go near it, warnings or not. Too many here are all too quick to put their hands into the fire after already discovering that it burns.

[personal profile] quickgenius 2018-05-03 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jesse is exhausted. She’s been running herself ragged trying to keep people safe and has ended up getting dragged into fights with those who have been indoctrinated in her attempts to protect others. It’s easy enough to keep them brief a lot of the time, to use her speed to confuse long enough to get people to safety or at least out of harm’s way for the time being.

She’s still gotten hurt, and only her fast healing has kept her mobile.

But she hasn’t had much time to sleep, let alone eat, and a speedster’s metabolism... requires more than she’d needed before getting her powers. But there’s no time. So she pushes herself harder, ignores the way her body protests.

This event has to end sometime, right?

It’s a relief to see a familiar face, even if she doesn’t know him very well. It’s only when she’s closer to him that she starts to get... concerned. She doesn’t know why. Maybe it’s just because she’s been dealing with so many indoctrinated that she’s seeing them everywhere, or maybe it’s because she’s been dealing with so many indoctrinated that she recognizes the façade of normality.]

Wonderland has managed that several times, however, and no more so than this time, when his confidence in his own ability to resist whatever was happening here had ultimately led to his downfall.

But there's a reason that he's still carefully working his way around the mansion and surrounding areas, and it's not the same as hers.
]

The very same.

i ~ day one ~ roof
[The demon doesn't waste any time in getting up to the roof when the thing lands in Wonderland. He'll push past a few people on his way up, not a single fuck given if he knocks them over or sends them flying, and when he bursts out into the fresh air it's with a very, very loud stream of cuss-words.]

Oh, this is bad, this is bad. [He mutters to himself as he turns to walk away from the view, then turns back as if he can't help but keep looking. People down in the gardens are doing much the same thing, and the extra elevation that the roof offers doesn't do much against the sheer scale of the ship-- creature-- whatever it is.

Crowley's jaw tenses. He pulls off his jacket, shoving it at the nearest person with a sharp 'hold this' before two white wings unfurl from his back, ripping through his shirt and he moves swiftly towards the edge of the roof.
]

ii ~ day three ~ mansion
[He has blood on his hands.

Not in the metaphorical sense, but a very literal one. It's in the grooves of his palms and under his fingers because he hasn't yet had a moment to think about getting it off. Crowley has shown no patience for the increasing number of Indoctrinated in the mansion getting in his way, and he's been trying to leave for at least a day and a half, only to be drawn back in by one emergency or another. Aziraphale would laugh. He keeps coming back to that thought. Aziraphale would laugh because everything that Crowley is doing is so unlike Crowley.

He wishes Aziraphale was here.

The demon rounds a corner, to find yet another person hovering near one of the pieces of Reaper technology showing up in ever-increasing amounts over the mansion. Indoctrinated or not, he snaps out a warning.
]

Hey! Get away from that!

iii ~ day five ~ tunnels
[Singing had been a breeze compared to this. Zombies had been a breeze compared to this. Holding his Bentley together while driving across a Hellgate had... maybe been a bit harder than this, but the wear is starting to show.

Crowley hasn't slept in five days. That doesn't show, since sleep isn't really a necessary thing as much as something he just enjoys doing. What is showing is the general sense of dishevelment about him. Small things that don't seem much each on their own, but all together... It's the small scratch on one lense of his sunglasses, the unpicked cuff of one sleeve of his jacket, the pale scuffs of dirt on his trousers. It's the sure signs he's had far more to think about than just himself.

He finds his way into the tunnels early on the fifth day after the Reaper lands, and sinks into a corner with all the air of someone who has most certainly Had Enough. When the ground above them starts to shudder, he leans his head against his knees and says nothing.

i ~ day one/two ~ mansion
[He plays Shepard's message once, then again, then a third time. 'Don't go near it' is something that quickly sinks in, but the rest? Indoctrination is a hell of a word and though his grasp on the meaning is shaky at best it doesn't feel like something that he wants to have happen to him.

R stays in his room for most of the first day, keeping the door tightly shut and playing jazz record after jazz record. It's the second day when he finally ventures out, an itch in the back of his skull alerting him in the strangest way to something that he can't quite place. There's something in the entrance hall near to his room. A small, odd thing shaped a little like a flower with curling, purple arms reaching upwards and meeting in a bud-like shape. He doesn't get a good feeling off it, and the closer he gets, the more he feels like he should do something about it. R retreats, and comes back with a wooden baseball bat.

He squares up to the odd artifact on the floor, and after a few moments of hesitation that look very much like he's fighting against something, he brings the bat down, smashing the artifact into pieces. It might not do a damn thing, but the buzzing in the back of his head eases off slightly... so maybe it helped a little.
]

ii ~ day three ~ grounds
[It didn't take long before R left the mansion entirely. He took out a few of the artifacts along the way, but people started to react poorly to it, and it had only taken hitting one person very hard around the head with the bat (he isnt' sure if he killed someone. God, he's not sure if he killed someone) before he decided that removing himself from the area would be the best course of action.

He might not still be Dead, but he still finds that the inhuman bursts of strength come to him in the moments he really needs them. There's blood on the bat, but he hadn't stopped to see just how badly the person he hit was injured.

Maybe he should have. Maybe he...

I think I killed someone.

[Oh, shit.]

iii ~ day four/five ~
[Once he knows about the tunnels, he makes his way down there. It seems like it's going to be safer, away from the Reaper and with guards at the entrance and despite his general nervousness about being in enclosed spaces with large numbers of people, he can... swallow that down if it means not dying.

He's found he quite enjoys being alive.

How long are they going to be stuck down here? Hard to say, but he finds - not for the first time - that there's a benefit in not really needing to eat or drink anything. He'll offer what he has to other people instead, telling them they could probably use it more than he could.
