Day 1
Negative.
(They hear nothing.)
no subject
[He is, admittedly, slightly startled by Legion's presence. It only lasts a moment, though, before he presses through the discomfort brought on by the machine's uncanny appearance and continues.]
I could... [Ah, but it's gone. Nathaniel frowns.] Must have been nothing.
no subject
Hallucinations are a sign of early stage indoctrination. Avoiding further contact with all Reaper technology is recommended.
no subject
[Surely not. Even the Blight doesn't take hold so quickly, and he's seen men and women alike fall to it within half a day.]
And how does one avoid contact with... [A gesture goes up at the Reaper.] that?
no subject
(There are few people who would want to be used by the Reapers, after all.)
Do not approach it. Keep an eye out for unfamiliar technology that may have originated from it. Be vigilant for signs of indoctrination in those around you.
no subject
Simple enough. What are the signs?
no subject
Indoctrination starts with hallucinations, attraction to Reaper artifacts. As it progresses, those afflicted become aggressive, lose functionality, and devote themselves to serving the Reapers.
no subject
[Hallucinations. Maker, he hopes that whatever he was hearing wasn't caused by that thing.]
Is there a cure?
no subject
(They pause a moment, considering, then amend their previous statement.)
Death. We recommend avoiding this outcome.
(Stay the fuck away from the Reapers, Nathaniel.)
no subject
[Yes. Avoiding death would be a very good thing. Nathaniel has no wish to die because of this.]
Uh, thanks. I'll keep away from it.
[Though, as he will soon discover, just keeping away from it isn't going to be enough.]
no subject
(And they're pretty sure he's been sufficiently warned, so they just... stand there. They are unsure of whether further interaction is warranted.)
five i guess??
It isn't a surprise that Nathaniel finds her on the grounds as she returns to a safer distance from the Reaper (she knows its name only because Legion had once told her about it). ]
... Nathaniel, you should get to safety. [ Robyn says slowly, but - she worries. He's just come from the direction of the mansion, which may mean... ]
Are you - well?
no subject
[Robyn is an intelligent woman, and even in the state he's in, Nathaniel has some awareness of that fact. It flags her up, immediately, as a danger to everything they're trying to achieve.
As little as a day ago he could have argued against that instinct. He could have pushed it down while he gently warned her away from the mansion, the Reaper, everything... But now?]
And I've never felt better. [It's funny that he says that, because he doesn't look particularly well.] Everything is as it should be.
no subject
She swallows. ]
Will you come with me, then? For a bit of a walk?
[ Into the caves, perhaps, and away from the mansion? ]
no subject
Must I? It's perfectly fine here.
[Even Shepard agrees. Didn't Robyn see that?]
Come on, I'll show you.
no subject
[ If he's trying to get them closer to the Reaper, he'll have to go there to do so, won't he? ]
no subject
There's really no need for that. They'll see it's all right without my help. [The Reaper will find them all, eventually, no matter how well they hide. Can't she see that? There's nothing they can do, but if they help it, they might be spared.
He steps closer to her. She's here. He can show her.]
Let me show you. You can tell them.
no subject
[ What to do? How can she break this curse that's befallen him? ]
Have you seen Garrett, or Cullen?
no subject
[He doesn't, but they can make him understand. It doesn't make any sense to keep fighting, to keep destroying everything they're trying to build.
Nathaniel moves to take Robyn's arm, the grip deceptively loose.]
It's going to be alright.

ii ~ day two/three ~ mansion
iii ~ day four/five ~ mansion/grounds
day four;
Until then Cullen intends to join them. His own injuries require more attention than he has given them so far. But he still walks, towards the mansion's exit. Worse is the exhaustion, not of body but of mind. Familiar, despite worlds separating the cause. A weariness that cries give in, give in, and promises to quiet blissfully if he does.
Cullen groans to himself and keeps walking, until the familiar figure appears at the other end of the corridor. The sinking feeling in Cullen's stomach is- only precaution. He will have relief in no time. Please.
Maker, please.
No need to draw his attention when Regis' head is already turned in the right direction, but Cullen lifts his hand to greet him all the same. ]
no subject
He senses Cullen before he sees him, his own instincts not dulled by the creature's power, and deep under the Indoctrination there's a flicker of concern for someone he considers to be a good friend.]
You look terrible. [The vampire says, a moment after lifting his hand up in a return greeting and beginning to walk towards him. Regis doesn't look quite as put together as he usually does, but regeneration does wonders.] This is taking its toll on all of us.
[His voice is soft, sympathetic, exactly what one might expect as he places a gentle hand on Cullen's shoulder.]
A moment's rest wouldn't go amiss, wouldn't you agree?
Day 1
[ Tactful as ever, this one. Michonne has her katana on her back as she stands and watches, eyes narrowed. Based on what Shepard said, it's the only conclusion she can come up with. ]
People are gonna need to get as far away from the mansion as possible. Hide. So this thing can't indoctrinate people like Shepard was talkin' about.
[ And yet? People are stupid and curious and that's just how it goes. Stupid and curious gets people killed, so yeah. She has an opinion, and she's taking the people she loves and getting somewhere as far away from that thing as possible. ]
no subject
You had somewhere in mind?
[He would be lying if he said he'd never run from anything. Regis has run from many things in his life, and it would be sensible to also run from this. And yet, perhaps it's the sheer scale of the thing that makes it difficult to comprehend the level of danger that they might be in.]
This place is somewhat limited in that regard.
no subject
[ Michonne isn't one to back down, not usually. But she's made a family for herself here, she loves someone who's loved hard and lost too much before and Michonne can't do it to her again. ]
Mostly, I'm thinkin' water. Out in the ocean as far out as we can get.
no subject
[Hard to miss, and though it's been a while since he last set foot on one he can't say it doesn't offer a certain appeal. The tunnels would certainly be more familiar.
But it's good to know that they have some options.]
Do you think that will be far enough? Shepard gave us no idea as to this creature's range.
no subject
[ She looks out in the direction the ship would be, then looks back at Regis. ]
I know the Captain. Whole family would try to help if we asked.
no subject
How many could fit aboard?
no subject
[ It would probably be impossible to get everyone on the Jolly Roger, and some people will just want to go their own way, period. ]
If this thing goes after people to...turn them, it's gonna go where it thinks the people are. Which is right here.
[ The mansion itself. ]
no subject
Could you be sure that isolating so many people in one place with no exit wouldn't present its own problem?
no subject
[ She agrees that the Reaper sounds smart, which begs the question why the hell people are getting close to it? ]
no subject
Limited options, but every one should be explored. The size of this place can be deceptive, but we are most certainly in an enclosed space, here.
[It doesn't seem that he's entirely speaking to her as he goes on, voice sliding to a curious-sounding murmur as he considers just where the people here could go to escape this creature.]
People will start to go near it, warnings or not. Too many here are all too quick to put their hands into the fire after already discovering that it burns.
no subject
All we can do is what we can do. And if that thing is focused on the biggest target, the mansion, then getting as far opposite that sounds like the best move. But who knows. Nothing’s certain.
no subject
[He echoes her with a frown and a slightly troubled expression, his attention fixed on the massive bulk and scale of the Reaper. It's... difficult to take in, even at this distance, and it doesn't matter how long he looks at it. It dosn't make it any easier to comprehend.]
I wish you luck. Sincerely.
Day four? Five?
She’s still gotten hurt, and only her fast healing has kept her mobile.
But she hasn’t had much time to sleep, let alone eat, and a speedster’s metabolism... requires more than she’d needed before getting her powers. But there’s no time. So she pushes herself harder, ignores the way her body protests.
This event has to end sometime, right?
It’s a relief to see a familiar face, even if she doesn’t know him very well. It’s only when she’s closer to him that she starts to get... concerned. She doesn’t know why. Maybe it’s just because she’s been dealing with so many indoctrinated that she’s seeing them everywhere, or maybe it’s because she’s been dealing with so many indoctrinated that she recognizes the façade of normality.] Regis?
as long as it's before he sees Cullen o/
But there's a reason that he's still carefully working his way around the mansion and surrounding areas, and it's not the same as hers.]
The very same.
[He smiles when he sees her, quite pleasantly enough. There's a little dust and dirt on his clothes, but his own regeneration abilities have kept him nicely in one piece.] Are you well?
no subject
[Not that she’s entirely sure that he is. In one piece. Mentally, anyway. He’s good so far, though. So maybe she’ll be lucky.]
Oh yeah. Yeah! I’m fine. Totally fine.
[It’s a bald faced lie, but she says it anyway. She doesn’t have much choice. She has to be.]
no subject
But he smiles, a close-lipped smile that doesn't show his teeth.]
What do you think of all this? Strange, isn't it.
