Where: The chessboard hills
When: Monday, June 11, all day starting at 10:00 AM
Rating: R for (sometimes excessive) violence
Summary: The Queen of Hearts has declared war and the time for battle has come.
The Story:
♥ ICly, the Real Things who will act as pieces volunteered and are led by the Red Queen. The Mirrors were chosen by the Queen of Hearts without being given a choice. The Queen of Hearts announced her choices to her Mirrors very directly, with an order to show up at 10:00 AM on the chessboard, ready to fight. The Red Queen announced her choices more politely, but just as firmly, with a text message sent out over the network listing her pieces and requesting their assistance to protect their fellow Real Things. Characters were not ICly able to respond to this message.

♥ Those pieces who choose to obey the summons will have time to gather any items or weapons they might want to have with them, within reason. Those who don't heed the summons will find themselves suddenly and instantly transported to their square on the chessboard when 10:00 AM rolls around. They will arrive with anything that was on their person at the time, as well as one weapon (whatever it would be normal for them to use). Likewise, any spectators who are not in or around the stands by 10:00 AM will find themselves transported there.

♥ Each player sports an armband, white for the Real Things and Black for the Mirrors, with the shape of their assigned chess piece embroidered in the opposite color. Royalty pieces wear crowns indicative of their status. Should a pawn be promoted to queen, a crown will appear on their head.

♥ Pieces will find that they can't leave their assigned spots until they're told what square to move to by either the Queen of Hearts or the Red Queen. And if they refuse to move, after a couple of moments, an unseen force will scoot them along to their new space.

♥ When threading moves on the board, please find the appropriate top-level under which to comment! It might be helpful to label your thread with which move/encounter you're playing out.

♥ Players on the board can not communicate with those in the stands and vice versa (other than by jumping around and flailing, I guess). However, players on the board can communicate directly with those in squares adjacent to them or with any challenger whose square they share. Since some pieces have a lot of down time, feel free to have them chat with others on the board while they're waiting around.

♥ Directions from the Queens can be assumed. Go ahead and play out moves without waiting for a comment to officially announce them.

Move 27: Tim Drake Captures Mirror Stan Pines

[Tim had spent the weeks leading up to this event preparing. He hadn't been sure what this conflict would entail, but this hadn't really been it, so he's in full Robin gear (well, the altered version he has here in Wonderland, which is less "Robin" and more "appropriately colored space armor"), with a number of the upgrades and modifications he and Damian had discussed during his time here. It feels a little like overkill, since... there's not much reason to fight, is there? That's not really in the rules of the game. One pieces takes the other, they don't fight over the space.

But that's not necessarily what's been happening, so he moves to the ordered space with caution. He doesn't want to fight, but he's certainly ready for it if it happens.]

[Her Majesty didn't have him capture that pawn. Her Majesty, in all her infinite wisdom and grace, moved her bishops instead. Now he's exposed and now he's a sacrifice. He's about to be captured by a pawn of all things.

Stan's Mirror knows how this game works, kind of. He knows it won't progress until he loses. But that doesn't mean he's going to go down without a fight. He slips his hands in his pockets, and when he pulls them out he's wearing brass knuckles.

A fight is what's expected. It's what Her Majesty picked him for. He may be old, but he's not feeble. She wasn't cruel enough to make him feeble.]

Well? What are you waiting for?!

[He's here for a fight, goddamnit. Come at him.]

[Tim's eyebrows go way up at the sight of the brass knuckles. So it's going to to be one of those fights. He takes his staff out and extends it to its full length. He's shorter than most of his opponents... always, and the staff gives him distance and reach. Not that he's especially concerned if it comes to hand to hand. He's very capable either way.]

I was just waiting to see if you were going to be stupid about things.

[He shrugs.]

Guess it wasn't much of a question.

[Mirror Stan grits his teeth and glares.]

I have a job to do and a Queen to serve. I'm not going down without a fight!

[Not when it could be treason. Not when he has his entire existence riding on him doing what he has to do on the board.

So, since Tim hasn't made the first move, Stan rushes in to take it for himself, trying to get close enough to throw a right hook...which may prove difficult with that staff to contend with.]

[Tim sidesteps the blow and gives him a push with the staff on his way by, hopefully to send him stumbling.]

I really don't want to hurt you.

[stantagonist]

[He does stumble, but not enough to fall all the way to the ground. Honestly the whole thing pisses him off. This kid's going to drag this out out of some misguided sense of what? Pity?]

I don't care what you want, and neither do the Queens!

[And so he swings again, and tries to anticipate the dodge with a second quick strike, but brass knuckles are just not a good weapon against a staff meant to put distance between them.]

[Nooo kidding. Yes, Tim had been a volunteer, but if he'd been given a choice, he would rather be somewhere near Cissie, who he knows is quietly freaking out somewhere in the stands. Instead of responding verbally, he ducks low under the swings and sweeps a kick out to try to tangle up MStan's legs.]

[That one actually works, and Stan goes down hard, catching himself on his forearms (since landing on his brass knuckles would probably break his hands). He works quickly on pushing himself upright though, because he has to try and swing again.

He can't think, because if he thinks he'll wonder what he would have done if he had been able to capture this piece. Even with the magic of Wonderland chess forcing things along, what would he have been able to do with brass knuckles versus a staff?

He doesn't stop swinging, but he does growl.]

Just do it, you brat!

[Do it. Finish him. Kill him, knock him out, whatever. Dragging it out is proving to just be humiliating.]

[Tim grimaces, but he goes for a headshot. He doesn't want to kill him, but if he can knock him out without dragging this out longer it will be better for both of them. Move the match along. Keep MStan's injuries to a minimum.]
