+ The Time Has Come, the Time Is Now +
Who: Everyone in Wonderland!
Where: The chessboard hills
When: Monday, June 11, all day starting at 10:00 AM
Rating: R for (sometimes excessive) violence
Summary: The Queen of Hearts has declared war and the time for battle has come.
The Story:
♥ ICly, the Real Things who will act as pieces volunteered and are led by the Red Queen. The Mirrors were chosen by the Queen of Hearts without being given a choice. The Queen of Hearts announced her choices to her Mirrors very directly, with an order to show up at 10:00 AM on the chessboard, ready to fight. The Red Queen announced her choices more politely, but just as firmly, with a text message sent out over the network listing her pieces and requesting their assistance to protect their fellow Real Things. Characters were not ICly able to respond to this message.
♥ Those pieces who choose to obey the summons will have time to gather any items or weapons they might want to have with them, within reason. Those who don't heed the summons will find themselves suddenly and instantly transported to their square on the chessboard when 10:00 AM rolls around. They will arrive with anything that was on their person at the time, as well as one weapon (whatever it would be normal for them to use). Likewise, any spectators who are not in or around the stands by 10:00 AM will find themselves transported there.
♥ Each player sports an armband, white for the Real Things and Black for the Mirrors, with the shape of their assigned chess piece embroidered in the opposite color. Royalty pieces wear crowns indicative of their status. Should a pawn be promoted to queen, a crown will appear on their head.
♥ Pieces will find that they can't leave their assigned spots until they're told what square to move to by either the Queen of Hearts or the Red Queen. And if they refuse to move, after a couple of moments, an unseen force will scoot them along to their new space.
♥ When threading moves on the board, please find the appropriate top-level under which to comment! It might be helpful to label your thread with which move/encounter you're playing out.
♥ Players on the board can not communicate with those in the stands and vice versa (other than by jumping around and flailing, I guess). However, players on the board can communicate directly with those in squares adjacent to them or with any challenger whose square they share. Since some pieces have a lot of down time, feel free to have them chat with others on the board while they're waiting around.
♥ Directions from the Queens can be assumed. Go ahead and play out moves without waiting for a comment to officially announce them.
♥ The plotting and info post for this log is here.

Screaming never bodes well.
She follows Jessica's path over to the side of the bleachers and peers over the edge, but doesn't join her down there just yet. Call Maggie paranoid if you want, but checking on somebody doesn't mean being stupid about it, and she grew up in a world with hordes of zombies. Nobody back home likes getting within biting reach of anybody who hasn't proven 100% coherent.
Softly, she calls down, "Hey honey. 'Are you alright's a stupid question, under the circumstances, so how about we skip straight to 'what's wrong?'"
no subject
Regardless, she feels pretty stupid for her reaction to being outside, even if it was fucking called for. She slumps, her lower lip jutting out the tiniest bit. Why'd she have to come out and watch this stupid game, anyway? She doesn't even like chess!
"I'm allergic to bein' outside," she eventually replies. At least she's attempting to inject some humor into the situation? It'd probably be more terrifying otherwise. "You'd think whoever brought me out would least gimme a umbrella. I keep feelin' like I'm gonna fry any second."
There's a slight pause. She should wear a label at this point, shouldn't she? It'd spare her the trouble of explaining so many times. Then again, it's not like she was normal. Ha.
"I'm a vampire."
no subject
"Ah." Maggie's adjusted to Wonderland enough that this only gives her pause for a second. "I take it from your reaction that you're the 'burst into flames in the sun' variety of vampire."
And then she does come down under the bleachers, pulling off her flannel shirt as she does. A tank top is fine. It's warm out. "Here. This won't be fashionable, but it'll work as a hood in a pinch. And I have gloves with me."
She always has gloves with her, in case she wants to handle anyone's food without the trouble of disinfecting the hell out of her hands. There's only so much bleach a girl can take. Fortunately, she's got the purple kind today, not clear nitrile.

She figured that'd be the end of that conversation and she could go back to being miserable. But apparently not! She blinks when she sees she's about to have company. Well damn, she figured most people would probably laugh and leave her be. Is she about to get laughed at to her face?
However, nothing weird seems to be happening. Her eyes focus on the shirt briefly, but her focus quickly turns to the gloves. Well, at least she's not the only weird one here?
"Thanks," she murmurs, taking the shirt and putting it over herself. It's a small comfort, and she relaxes quite a bit.
...But she can't quell the curiosity that's burning inside her. Suddenly, she blurts out, "Why d'you need gloves?"
no subject
"Zombie virus," Maggie says bluntly as she offers the gloves to Jessica. "I'd like to not share it with all of Wonderland, and I spend enough time cooking for other people that it only makes sense to carry gloves. I love to cook."
She pauses, then clarifies, "I'm not a zombie, I'll just become one if I die. My world's walking dead are a lot less coherent than you are. We wouldn't be holding a conversation if I'd turned."
no subject
She blinks at the gloves and takes them, but she doesn't really know what to do with them. She decides to just hold them for now. What's a virus to her, really?
"Man, I keep hearin' so much about zombies. I never knew so many people could be dealin' with that sorta stuff."
Her head tilts curiously. "It's weird, though. What keeps 'em goin' if they're dead? A virus can really do that?"
The question almost sounded stupid to her, being that she was very much undead herself. But the idea of dead people walking around without them being vampires? It was hard to imagine. In short, someone desperately needed to go through zombie 101.
no subject
"The gloves are so one more part of you is covered," Maggie explains. "Not because of me. Even if you could catch it, you're not going to get my virus just from touching me."
Unless she's bleeding, of course, which Maggie is just not going to mention in front of the vampire.
"Do you know how the brain sends electrical impulses through the body to tell it what to do? The virus keeps turning those impulses back on, and so it pretty much pilots people even though their consciousness has left the building. They get whittled down to a couple basic instincts." Feeding, mostly. And infecting other people.
no subject
"Oh, okay, I gotcha," she says, still nodding as she puts the gloves on since, hey, doesn't hurt to have extra protection. "Electricity and stuff. Ben Franklin'd be proud."
There. That ought to solidify her knowledge of humans and brains and shit.
"So. Does it affect animals, too?" It sounds like a nicely scientific question. Right?
