Forgive my overestimation.

[It's kind of a dig in its own right, but jeez, Richard can't really be expected to keep all the lords and ladies and sirs and whatever straight. That's for people who actually care.]

[He kind of likes how fiercely carefree this dude is.]

I could say that p-playing by the rules assures a longer life, but that would be appallingly hypocritical of me. I'm just s-surprised to see someone your age blatantly ignoring propriety. Th-That's usually the realm of us older folk.

[Danyael only shrugs. No offence taken, and all that. If he's carrying the bearing of a lord at the moment then he clearly needs to drink some more wine.]

Hah, my age? [He grins. His age is a little difficult to pinpoint, but it's somewhere around the 'forty' mark.] Got too much to think about without getting involved in all the chess match nonsense that goes on at an event like this. Blame it on my mother. Think my father always did, but then he shouldn't have married a Rivaini.

[Anyone younger than eighty is "that age" according to Richard.]

Then why not go in for some actual disruption instead of just hanging around maskless? The least you could do is be entertaining. To yourself if no one else.

Because I like my blood inside my body, and my heart beating. [Dan does crack a smile, despite the seriousness of the statement.]

Only so much dissent a guy can stir up on his own before someone puts something short and pointy into him to make him stop.

As do most of us.

[He nods sagely.]

Not truly a man of action, then. S-Simply a conscientious objector. Well, there's always the Inquisition, if y-you prefer fighting demons to fighting propriety.
