Summary: Starlight Glimmer is making poor life choices. Everyone else gets to suffer now.
The Story:

Maybe you're outside, enjoying the fall weather. Maybe you're in the kitchen, or just wandering the halls. It doesn't matter. As soon as you lay eyes on that purple pony, walking around with a cyan-glowing horn and an insufferably smug look on her face, your world will twist.

Suddenly you're on four hooves, not two feet. You have a mane. Maybe you're lucky enough to have wings, or a horn. You aren't a human now. You're a pony, your special talent emblazoned on your flank to show the world who you are.

But clearly, this is how things have always been, right? Pay no attention to your memories of hands, this is normal now.

[She isn't gushing about the trite romances going on. This is SO SERIOUS.]

No! No...no, they haven't. [Starlight you did this, you broke this little girl's heart. He acts as if he's just noticed something weird.] Oh! You know what I think it is? I think Wonderland's given you the wrong knitting needles. Look at them, they're all thin and human-y, they don't even have hoof-grips. You know what those closets are like, so finicky.

[This is why she likes you, Sunburst. You're a good pony.

The panic subsides as Mabel looks down at the discarded needles and gasps. They are human knitting needles.] Oh my gosh, you're right. Ugh. There goes Wonderland again, acting like everyone is a humanoid. Gosh. It's like it doesn't even realize how many of us there are. Oh man, thanks, Sunburst. I almost panicked there for a second.

[He tries, he really tries. He lets out a breath, glad the bluff worked.]

I know right, I guess it'll always be a little human-centric. [A fact he genuinely is somewhat bitter over, but now is not the time.] So all you need to do is make sure the closets give you the right needles and you'll be good to go.

[But in case that doesn't work- a distraction is in order.]

Are you enjoying the movie?

Huh? [Oh crud, she almost forgot.] ...I guess I kinda got distracted. Jessica was talking about those Twilight books, and I found the movies because the only thing better than reading about sparkly vampires is watching them.

[She paws for the remote with her hoof.]Guess I'm gonna have to start over. You wanna join in? I can get popcoo~oorn.

[Like popcorn will make the cheesiness tolerable.]

Oh. Right.

[Sunburst eyes the screen with no small amount of scepticism. Honestly, he can't think of anything better than reading. He'd be one of those people who decried the book was better without even attempting to watch the movie.

Still, he likes Mabel a lot and he doesn't really want to leave her alone if the spell messes up and makes her suddenly remember. He sighs, hopping onto one of the chairs. ]

...Sure, why not. So this is a romance? With vampires?

Yep! It's the forbidden love between a vampire and a normal human girl... which is weirdly unrelatable, but also relatable at the same time. Love stories transcend species.

[She picks up her giant bowl of popcorn in her mouth and nudges it onto an endtable between her seat and Sunburst's. Our story begins with the gloomy heroine narrating about her sad life.]

Wow. That is definitely the face of a girl who needs romance in her life.

[He levitates some popcorn into his mouth, canting his head as he stares at the screen. He doesn't even have a grip on pony romance, let alone anything involving other species.]

You think? Perhaps she just needs to have some quiet time to work out who she wants to be. Why is he sparkling?

Because that's what vampires do in this universe. [She says around a mouthful of popcorn.] They're sparkly and extra beautiful. [Wait. Why is she swooning? Should she be swooning over two-legged humanoids? Are they supposed to be attractive to her? WHAT IS SHE? A PONY PANSEXUAL???

These are extremely confusing thoughts, and they're crushing her mood.]

Hey, Sunburst, d'you ever feel weird about being a pony?

Oh. That seems a little...strange. I guess it appeals to someone, though.

[That's not a question he was expecting, but at least it means she's aware something's wrong. That could be either very good or very bad. He really needs to work out the spell parameters and fix it before people start having existential crises.]

Um. Not really? I guess ti felt a little weird when I got back to my usual body after that event in Thedas. But that was mostly because I was human fro a while and I did not much care for it.

[powerofmabel]

Huh. [She stares at her hooves again and then puts them back down on the couch like the sight of them is a little too weird right now.]

I think I'd make an awesome human. I dunno why. I just kinda feel it deep down. Just imagine all the things I could do with thumbs.

[Interesting. A part of him wants to keep prodding at this. The magical theorist in him wants to understand where the spell is failing- where the boundaries of understanding the truth meet up with the lie.

But then he realises that's probably an awful thing to do and he probably shouldn't use a kid as a test subject.]

...Mabel, I think that you think this because you're...not supposed to be this way. You're currently under a spell...or possibly something Wonderland concocted. The reason you keep feeling this way is because you are human.

[This should normally trigger an identity crisis, but Mabel is such a weird person that the fact that there's a rationalization for why she feels weird is more of a relief than anything else.

She sighs in relief.] Oh man. That's a relif. Now I can just enjoy this while it lasts. [and then... it hits her.] ....Is this Starlight again?

[Oh, thank Celestia, she didn't go crazy. He lets out a soft, annoyed snort at the question.]

I don't know. Maybe? But it could also be Wonderland. I haven't found her yet to know for certain.

[But there's a pretty damn high chance that it's Starlight again.]

I don't remember an announcement... I usually keep track 'cause of Alice... And the White Queen. [She narrows her eyes.] Something's shady about her.

[But anyway.] So. Starlight. She, uh... She probably does this a lot, huh? I'm not even mad. I'm just kinda impressed at how bad she is about being good at magic.

I don't remember one either.

[Which means Starlight is the very likely culprit. He heaves out a sigh.]

That's the problem, she's very good at magic, possibly the most powerful unicorn that's been born in centuries. Her problem is that she often fails to see the line she...probably shouldn't cross when doing her magic. She never means any harm, she just gets...carried away.

[powerofmabel]

Overly enthusiastic. [She nods sagely.] I can relate. My teachers at school used to say that about me. You make one glitter bomb and suddenly quirky is a bad thing.

[Huffy sigh!!] Maybe I should talk to her. Y'know... Encourage her, but try to level her out.

[This is a bad idea. That's the blind leading the blind.]

Yeaaaaah, she's working on the boundaries thing. It's taking her a little time.

[Mabel, that's the worst idea.]

I'm really not convinced that would work. Honestly, I usually end up inadvertently giving her ideas.

Yeah, but you're... you. I'm an idea machine. By the time I've given her a thousand ideas, she probably won't wanna do any of them 'cause there's just too much to think about.

That might be for the best. Then at least she won't accidentally do anything like this.
