Happy December, Wonderland!

[ Juliet offers a brilliant, if somewhat strained, smile to the network. The camera isn't directly aimed at her face at first--she's still getting used to video chatting--but she reaches out to adjust it quickly before continuing. ]

I know not everyone here celebrates Christmas or... Even knows what Christmas is, but! In the O'Hara household, Christmas is a big deal. I mean, I really big deal. All my family comes in and there are games, and arts and crafts, and a ton of food...

[ People probably get the idea, Juliet. ]

So! I know things always get really crazy during the holidays anyway and I wanted to get on top of things so I'm having a little pre-Christmas get together at my place. So whether or I know you or not, come by room three on the seventh floor anytime over the next few days and I promise we'll have a lot of fun. Open door policy.

[ She pauses. ]

Not literally. Knock first.

[ room 3, level 7 ]

Juliet has gone all-out for the holidays, as an O'Hara is wont to do. With no financial limits and no job to distract her, she's put everything into decorating her place. Anyone walking past room three on the seventh floor will be greeted immediately with an timely wreath and equally festive doormat.

The decorations don't stop there. Juliet has decked the halls to the point that they are bursting, having even extended her living room quite a bit to accommodate food, fun, and hopefully a lot of guests. Every wall is decorated with some kind of garland, wreath, or lights. She's even got a sprig of mistletoe hanging in the corner for any couples who visit that might be so inclined.

And, of course, there is the the Christmas tree in the corner of the living room.

Anyone who visits will also be greeted by an unimaginable spread of food from cookies, cakes, and various snacks to some traditional Scottish fare like mince pies. There's another corner table dedicated to just Christmas crafts, from cutting out paper snowflakes to sewing Holiday themed pajamas.

Maybe it's a little early to go full out, but Juliet couldn't wait. Christmas is her favorite time of year and she hopes that getting to it early will help her miss her family less - and maybe help her find a new family in Wonderland.

Woooow yeah I can totes get the lack of snow now. I'm from Vest Virginia, so I'm pretty used to snow.

[Which doesn't make survival any easier, but it at least slows the walkers down.]

Exactly! And you never know, it might give us a break and give us some nice stuff to enjoy instead of some horrible mind-fuck event, you know?

[ Santa Barbara and West Virginia might as well be different planets. ]

I hope so! Christmas should be something people look forward to and enjoy.

It should. I'm looking forward to looking forward to it again. It's been a while.

[ That's true for her, too. Juliet never wants to lose sight of who she is, especially not in Wonderland. ]

My family always goes full out for Christmas at home, it didn't seem right not to here.

[ Besides, she was able to trick people into visiting her and becoming her friends so, win-win. She also looks very pleased that someone noticed the doormat. ]

I have a cat at home. The closest I could get here was a doormat.

I think you can get animals from the closets...thoooough who knows if that means you're actually magically kidnapping someone else's cat. I don't know how it all works.

[ Juliet genuinely wants everyone to be happy, and the best way she knows how to do that is by sharing the things she loves.

She wrinkles her nose at his suggestion. ]

Shawn mentioned that, but it wouldn't feel right, especially if I went home and had to leave it here. Though, do you know if anyone has left animals before? I wouldn't mind taking in a rescue.

[ That seems significantly less shady. ]

I hear you there. Life's too short to be a stressball all the time, and that's what people are gonna be here, if they don't have the chance to blow off steam.

[It's a way of thinking very dear to Louis' heart. It puts Juliet up in his estimation of her. ]

I'm not sure. I thought everyone's stuff vanished when they left here. I don't know if that counts for pets, too. It'd be super freaky for them to just vanish, I guess. But Wonderland's good at super freaky.

I'm learning to not expect anything of Wonderland. But if that's the case, I guess I'll just have to put up with not having a pet for a while.

[ That sucks. She'd been thinking about getting a dog back home. ]

Granted, that's not really my main concern about this place.

There's worse things, and you never know if some event might drop one in your lap.

[Wonderland does whatever the hell it wants, after all.]

Yeeeah. There's about a hundred others things to really worry about this place. It's pretty crazy

I tried making a list of all the things I should be worrying about the other day, but it just ended up making me anxious.

[ Plus, the list mostly ended up being doodles of weird pumpkin people, rabbits, and a few pretty decent looking flowers. ]

I'm usually always prepared for anything back home, but that's practically impossible here.

Oh wow, that was a poor life decision, right there.

[Louis does his level best to ignore the things that worry him.]

I've taken it every day at a time for...a long while. Tomorrow doesn't exist, no point in stressing out over it. Any one of us could be dead tomorrow- [a pause, because while that's true here, it's also very specific to his home, he clears his throat] or sent home...or whatever. If we keep worrying about what might happen, we'll miss out on what's happening right now.

Well, I like being organized, and I like knowing what to expect. Wonderland doesn't make that easy.

[ She's too type A for that nonesense. ]

I think... That's pretty wise. [ Not unsurprising, considering most people she's met here have come from pretty rough worlds and have learned some rough weapons. ] As much as I want to go home, I'm here now. I'm kind of determined to make the best of it.

My friend Aasim is like that. He'd go crazy here, with how much things can change so fast. He likes having about a hundred plans for anything.

[The only reason he survives home is with his goddamn diary. But now he's been taken...well, Louis worries about him. Aasim's a good fighter, but who knows what he's being dragged into.]

It's got me through this far. [It's kept him from becoming an complete emotional wreck.] I think it works here really well. We are stuck in this crappy situation, so we might as well enjoy it as best we can.

That's exactly how I am. I think Shawn thinks it's ridiculous but I'd rather go into a situation knowing exactly how to handle it whenever I can.

[ That's why Shawn is always almost getting killed and she isn't. ]

That's the attitude I'm trying to have. This place isn't ideal, sure, but I think we'll all be better off if we make the best of it.

I'm for sure not a plan guy. But Aasim would back you up on that way of thinking. He's been like writing a diary- [purposefully sarcastic] sorry, history book about everything that's been going on.

[Aasim is a delightfully little anal guy living in a world where spanners are thrown into the works multiple times a day. He drove Louis nuts. They grated on one another every second they spent together. And oh, how Louis misses him. ]

We sure would. None of us know how long we got. Might as well enjoy it.

[ Juliet can definitely understand what it's like to miss someone who simultaneously makes your life miserable and yet amazingly interesting at the same time. ]

That's a good idea, though. One day, someone could find it and have an idea of everything you all went through. It's great that he's thinking forward... But it's always good to enjoy the present, too.

That's working on the assuption, of course, that the world is gonna somehow fix itself for some theoretical future person to find.

[Louis is never good at dealing with the idea of the future. He doesn't have Aasim and Tenn's hopes that the world will one day get better. That it won't always be the dead and the living trying to kill each other. ]

I'm for sure more of a present guy.

Maybe it will. Even if it doesn't feel realistic, having hope isn't a bad thing. And the human race has made it through some seriously bad stuff.

[ Maybe not on the level of zombies, but people are nothing if not resilient. And hopeful. ]

But since we are talking about the now... Maybe we should just eat more cookies and drink eggnog? [ She pauses. ] Are you even old enough to drink? Is there a Wonderland drinking age?

...I guess. [He's only recently started hoping again, mostly for small things. Like getting through the day in one piece. He's not too great at the big hopes just yet.] We have, but humans are aslo capable of making things way worse. Like my worst problem at home is other people- the walkers, we can deal with. The raiders kidnapping our people? Less so.

[They really didn't do much for Louis' faith in other people. At least in adults. He laughs at her comment.]

I'm seventeen, so technically not, but also drinking ages kinda fell when society crumbled and I'm pretty sure they don't exist in Wonderland.

[ Even without that explanation, Juliet would have been completely okay with giving Louis a drink. After all that, though, she doesn't even hesitate to grab him a cup and pour him an inappropriate amount of booze. ]

If you can deal with zombies, I'm pretty sure you can handle a drink. [ She hands it to him. ] I know you're right, but it's hard for me to not have faith in people being better than that on the whole.

[She's clearly the best adult here, go her. He grins, taking the drink off her and raising it in a mock toast.]

Damn right! That kind of stuff small change after a while. [It's just not easy to GET any more.] Nothing wrong with that. It's kinda nice, that you've come from a place where you can still have that. You should hold onto it as long as you can.

[ Juliet pours herself a drink and raises it to him to respond. ]

Here's hoping that the most insane thing I ever have to deal with is Shawn Spencer and the occasional serial killer.

[Clink. Look at them, so fancy with their fancy eggnog toasts.]

Hell yeah! And here's hoping no events from my world happen here ever.
