Summary: As the Gryphon announced, there is an event. Everyone is now living as if one regret they formerly had no longer exists.
The Story:

the kitchen

[thereporter]

[ Julia has found herself in the kitchen pretty regularly these days, as well. Although not much of a cook, either, she's been trying her hand, hoping that it will help stave off some of the boredom that has plagued her since her arrival in Wonderland.

Things have been moving slowly for her... Certainly more than anyone who knows her would have expected. And she is decidedly sans an engagement ring, something that has been a staple on her since she received it.

Although she does recognize Ange, even if her memories of her may be slightly different. ]

Um... [ She glances at the weird, green batter, her eyebrows raising. ] What did you put in it?

[entreats]

Oh..

[ Ange's gaze drifts off to the batter for a moment. Which one might think is since she's slowly figuring out herself that this doesn't exactly look right, but nope. It's just a thinking pause. ]

You know! The usual. [ Clearly. ]

Why? Are you allergic to something in pancakes? I didn't know that. [ Learning something new about people she likes every day! ]

[thereporter]

[ That response doesn't make Julia feel any better, but she isn't about to cut down poor Ange when she is clearly trying to do her best. ]

No, nothing specific. Where I come from, though, pancake batter is usually a little less... vibrant.

[entreats]

Really? [ It doesn't seem super surprising to her, but it's still interesting enough for her to get a little curious. Her mood still seems surprisingly really good by Ange standards though.

(She's totally unaware even back home for her, batter isn't supposed to be this color.) ]

The differences between worlds are so interesting.. Can you make those? I'd like to try some made by you next time then!

[thereporter]

[ It is situations like this that remind Julia of how tricky people coming from other worlds can be. For all she knows, green pancakes are a completely normal thing in Ange's world. Or maybe Ange just has no idea what a pancake even is.

Julia isn't sure she wants to take the risk. ]

I can make them now if you want. We can compare recipes. [ And maybe find out where everything went so terribly wrong. ]

[entreats]

Oh, sure.

[ She even moves over a little so there's plenty of room for Julia to get working on some pancakes as well. Still completely oblivious as to what she might be doing wrong here. ]

I only still have to flip mine, so the space is all yours.

[thereporter]

[ Julia nods and pulls out her device, because she's going to need to look up a recipe. Even if she is being a little judgemental of Ange's batter, it's not like she really knows any better. ]

So, you finally decided to take up a few hobbies?

[ She figured Ange would get into something eventually, and cooking seems like it makes sense, especially since Julia is pretty sure she's mentioned before it wasn't really something she's done much of. ]

[entreats]

[ That question makes Ange frown a bit. It's not an angry frown - not even a real annoyed frown, honestly. If anything, it's the kind of frown no one would expect to see on Ange.. something much more pouty and playful. ]

Are you saying I don't have hobbies? [ Totally unaware that it's something she herself said.. But she has no memories of that at all while she's still her AU self. ] I cook here tons!

[ .. which doesn't really explain why she's still making this monstrous batter instead of something that actually looks edible, huh. ]

[thereporter]

[ It's strange, but so far nothing is terribly a miss. They did have that conversation a while ago and maybe Ange just hadn't mentioned it. ]

I haven't been coming down here a lot until recently, so I think we've been missing each other. [ It would explain why Julia hadn't seen much of a change.

It definitely doesn't explain the batter, though. ]

What else have you been up to?

[entreats]

Um.. The usual, I think? [ She hums, thinking it over. ]

Reading in the library, talking to my friends.. I was talking to one of them earlier and we might end up doing some board games later. [ She laughs. ] Got to keep yourself occupied in this kind of place, right? Until we can all go back home.

[thereporter]

[ Apparently Julia has been out of the loop. She chalks it up to her just not keeping up with Ange as often as she should; Ange was one of the first people she met when she came to Wonderland, but she's also always been a little distant. Not that Julia helps with that, considering she isn't exactly an unyielding extrovert herself.

Either way, she's happy to hear that Ange has found her stride and it keeping herself busy. ]

Board games sound fun. I don't think I've played a board game since I was a kid. [ Sometimes, Julia took being a boring adult to the extreme. ]

[entreats]

Then let's play one together sometime! It'll be fun!

[ It's said with a kind of excitement that Ange usually never displays, so there does seem to be something kind of off about her. She's even smiling as she says it, excitement twinkling somewhere in her eyes. ]

I mean, we're stuck here anyway, right? Might as well try everything out while we're here. [ Who cares that Julia is an adult, or even just generally quite a bit older than her. It doesn't seem to be much of a concern to Ange. Anyone can play board games!! ]

[thereporter]

[ That display does take Julia aback a bit. She hasn't been so out of touch with Ange that a sudden display of such uncharacteristic behavior goes unnoticed, and it takes Julia a bit too long to catch up with her smile. ]

That does sound fun.

[ Julia actually enjoys the time she gets to spend with the kids in Wonderland. She found herself mother-henning the Dome orphans back home pretty quickly, and being around the younger generations in Wonderland helps her miss them a little less. ]

Ange... [ She pauses thoughtfully, shaking some flour into a measuring cup. ] Is there's something else going on? You just seem... Happier than usual.

[entreats]

[ That remark makes Ange look a bit surprised. She stares over at Julia, blinking like she has no clue what the other is talking about. ]

Happier?

[ Sure, Ange won't claim she's the absolute happiest person around. She's still not always great with social interactions, since that's what being a sometimes shy bookworm does to you. But she doesn't think she'd come across as.. well, what's the opposite? A gloomy person? ]

Do you really think so? I think I usually seem like this too.. And as far as I know, nothing special has happened recently.

[thereporter]

[ No, something is definitely up. Julia wouldn't say Ange is gloomy, per se, but there is definitely a little more skip to her step than she's ever seen before and, while it's not a bad thing, it isn't exactly normal, either. ]

No, no, forget it. It's probably just me. [ Julia offers an apologetic smile. As strange as it might be, it's nice to see Ange acting a little happier. ] Who were you planning board games with?

[entreats]

Lapis. Do you know her?

[ She figures Julia would instantly recognize the name if she did - those.. gem or alien people or whatever they are kind of stand out, after all. Most people don't really have blue skin. ]

She seemed in a pretty good mood today as well, thinking about it. Maybe this place is helping us lift our spirits for once or something like that?

[thereporter]

I don't personally, but I think I've seen her around on the network.

[ She's pretty good at knowing names, even if she hasn't actually met the person. ]

Do you think this might be an event? One that puts everyone in a good mood? [ She pauses, grabbing a whisk to start mixing up her batter. ] That's pretty mellow for Wonderland.

[entreats]

[ Ange gives a small, thoughtful nod at that, even though she's still smiling a bit. ]

I guess so. This place doesn't really like doing nice things for us. [ And the events are more genuinely bothersome when you actually care about your life and don't have as much experience running away from magical creatures. ] Maybe it tried to do something bad, but made a mistake. And then it all turned out like this instead.
