And I won't forget you - at least, I'll try. | OPEN
Who: Tohru Honda [
breakthecurse] + YOU!
Where: All around Wonderland
When: 4/9 - 4/10
Rating: PG
Summary: Tohru wakes up from a bad dream, only to find that maybe she's having a different one! Then, once some things are explained to her, she decides to explore Wonderland a little.
The Story:
A. EVENING 4/9 (CLOSED TO SOUJI)
Tohru has never seen a house as big as the one she's standing inside now. Not even the Sohma family estate can compare. She feels so small, walking down the hallway of this huge home. Are dreams supposed to make you feel that way?
The sinking thought is creeping in though, that she isn't actually dreaming. It's a terrible, frightening thought. If she's not dreaming, then something is very wrong for her to not be in Shigure's house. Staying in her new room won't give her any answers though, and surely there must be someone else around who knows a little more than her...right?
It isn't too late in the evening in Wonderland, but late enough that things have gone relatively quiet. Except up ahead, there's a door with signage like a business or restaurant, and it looks like there's a light on inside.
"The Rabbit Hole?"
Like...Alice in Wonderland? That doesn't make this feel any less like a dream, but it does feel like her best option right now. So, she opens the door and enters the diner. It strikes her in that moment exactly how out of place she feels. She's still in her pajamas, but she's also barefoot. Hopefully whoever is here will understand.
"E-Excuse me?" she tries, and she bows deeply. "I'm sorry to intrude a-and I don't think I have any money, but...I was wondering if someone could tell me where I am? I-I don't know how I arrived here and if this is your house and I'm trespassing or something I'm really sorry."
B. MORNING 4/10 (KITCHEN - OPEN)
That was...a lot to take in. And that's putting it lightly!
Eventually Tohru goes back to bed, in what is now established as "her" room, and is a little bit surprised when she's still there in the morning. It really solidifies everything she was told the night before, and proves it isn't a dream. But if that's the case, then she should really do some exploring and learn about her temporary new home. If there's no way for her to return home, then all she can do is make the best of it, right? And Souji had been so kind to her and explained so much, so she shouldn't complain.
Everything is still extremely overwhelming, but she's sure getting out and about will help. Or at least, doing something that feels a little more normal might clear her head. Which is why she can be found first thing in the morning in the kitchen, making a traditional Japanese breakfast - and it smells pretty great.
If anyone walks in, she'll greet them with a bright smile.
"Oh! Good morning!" she says. "Were you going to make something? I'm sorry - I promise I'm almost done."
C. DAYTIME 4/10 (GROUNDS - OPEN)
After she has some breakfast, Tohru ventures out on the grounds, and she has never been somewhere so pretty before. Even though she knows they're trapped in Wonderland, it feels like the world stretches out before her. She thinks this must be what the English countryside looks like, with beautiful gardens and forests and large western homes...
She strolls through the garden and peeks through the greenhouse glass and all she can think is how much Yuki would love to see plants like these. It's a melancholy feeling, and one she's had a few times today. There are so many incredible things here, and according to Souji she knew them all and forgot them a long time ago. This must be what it's like to have her memories erased. She's not sure if it's exactly the same as what Hatori is able to do, but then again how could she be?
Still, it's a pleasant day, and so beautiful outside. She'll spend the rest of the day marveling over the plants and walking along the beach, and just meeting as many people as she possibly can.
D. EVENING - 4/10 (LIBRARY - OPEN)
It isn't long before Tohru is itching to do more though. Or, maybe more accurately, itching to not think about everything quite so much.
Thankfully, she does have something to do. If she's going to be helping Souji in the diner (the...the diner she...made? She still can't quite believe it, even though she's sure he's telling the truth) she needs to step up and relearn a lot of the dishes she made before, which means it's time for a trip to the magical library!
Except...she's having a lot of trouble finding exactly what she's looking for. It's almost as though the contents of the library are moving around - but surely they wouldn't be able to do that, right?
Eventually, she'll very gently start to ask for help. She doesn't want to bother anyone, but her head is starting to spin looking this hard!
"Um, excuse me...I'm sorry to bother you. I was wondering if you know if this library has cookbooks, by any chance?"
[ooc: Either prose or [action brackets] are fine, I'll match!]

Tohruuuuu
He turns toward her in time to see her bowing and listens as she speaks. He can't help smiling a little at how polite she is and it's a moment before he says anything.
"You're not trespassing, Tohru." He wonders belatedly if it will be weird for her that he addresses her by name--and by her given name at that. She's clearly already confused enough. But it's too late to go back on it, so he smiles at her gently and goes ahead and says, "Welcome back."

She slowly pulls herself out of her bow, and looks at this boy before her, trying to find something in him that she recognizes. There are aspects about him that remind her a little of Yuki, but...that is where the familiarity ends.
He's so familiar with her, and looks so happy to see her, and she doesn't recognize him at all. She can't put a name to his face, and this place he says she's come back to is entirely new to her. This boy knows her and recognizes her, but she's never seen him before.
...Right?
"I...I'm really sorry," she says, though it takes her a long time to make the words. "But, um. Have...we met before? I-I usually try to have a better memory than that, but I really can't remember for some reason?"
She tries to gently laugh it off, even though it doesn't sound like she thinks it's funny. Silly her and her bad memory!

He takes off his apron and comes closer, though he keeps a respectful distance. He's not a small guy and he worries about being intimidating.
"My name is Souji. Would you like something to eat while I explain?"
no subject
Tohru is so often the one cooking for others that being offered food is almost the strangest part of everything that is happening to her in this moment.
"Oh, um. No, thank you," she says. "I wouldn't want to take away any of your business, and I don't have any money to pay you. This is your restaurant, right?"
She still doesn't recognize it, but that doesn't mean she can't tell what it is. And it must be his, if he's the only one here - or at the very least he must work there.
no subject
"No one pays. It's all free."
But he won't push her to eat if she doesn't want anything.
"Will you at least take a seat? It might take a little while to explain."

They should be over there at the moment.

Oh no, she's been staring, hasn't she?]
O-Oh! U-Um, thank you! Thank you very much. I'm sorry for staring, I just...n-nevermind.

It's fine. I've gotten used to it.
[He has had four years in which to do so, after all. Being treated like an oddity is annoying, but there are worse things that could happen.]
no subject
I'm sorry. That was really rude of me, and even ruder if it's something you've had to get used to. There aren't person-sized talking birds in my world so I was a little surprised, but that's no excuse for treating you like something to gawk at!

Still, he's always happy to help anyone who needs to be pointed the right way in their literary pursuits. It's one of the few chances he has to meet other people over some kind of common ground. He smiles at Tohru, as welcoming as he can be.
"We sure do! And don't worry, it's no bother at all, I can take you to them, if you like?"
Re: library
He did seem like he knows his way around though (and she already lost the cookbooks again!) so she tries to keep her calm to ask. Do not freak out about he's a unicorn do not freak out about he's a unicorn.
"I-I'd really appreciate it, if it's not too much trouble?" she says, nodding her head in a gentle bow of gratitude. "But if it is, that's okay too. I wouldn't want to interrupt you too much."
no subject
"It's no trouble at all. I'm the librarian here, it's my job," a pause. "Well...not a literal job. I don't get paid or anything. But I do know where everything is."
no subject
"That's really admirable though!" she says. "If there weren't librarians here, I don't think anyone would find anything. It's something really kind of you to do without expecting money in return."

B
"Oh, no! I was just wondering what smells so good." He raises a hand, giving a little wave. "I'm Soos, by the way. I don't think I've seen you around here before?"
He was lost in the hedge maze for a while.
no subject
"I'm Tohru Honda. It's nice to meet you! I, um. I actually just arrived last night," she says.
Frankly for someone who just arrived, she's settling in remarkably well if she's up making an elaborate breakfast the next morning.
"Thank you though! It's just a little breakfast," she says. "Would you like some? I have more than enough for two people."
no subject
Soos comes closer, looking around with interest at everything. "Is there anything I can, like, help with? You just got here and all. You're probably. Tired?"
Well, maybe not. It's not like she just got off a bus. But still, he feels bad getting food and not helping out.
no subject
Or, more accurately, she had a little bit of trouble sleeping. But, she's okay! She's good to go!
"I'm actually almost done anyway," she adds cheerfully. "I cook breakfast for my friends often, so I have it down pat!"
She's actually at a point where she can start plating, and once she's done with it the meal looks like something out of a movie. Delicious salmon, rice, miso soup, and a few cute squares of tamagoyaki all artfully arranged.

Kitchen!
Wearing tartan print pajama pants and a t-shirt she runs a hand through her hair to see someone cooking. It actually makes her stomach growl a little as she watches. "I think I was just gonna get cereal. That smells really good." She tries to peek a little, nosey.
"And you can take your time. I'd burn the place down if I tried to cook anything."
She gets that from her mother.
no subject
"That's okay! Actually, a really good friend of mine is like that too," she says. "Everyone has their weak spots, and that's okay because has their strong points too. For example, that friend is really good at gardening, and I don't know very much about how to do that at all!"
So it's entirely okay that Yuki would burn down a kitchen if anyone let him cook - that's what Tohru's there for! Though, thinking about it that way makes her miss everyone a little more.
"Um, if you'd like you can have some of what I'm making? It's definitely more than enough for just one person."
no subject
"Only if you're sure. My mama can't really cook either, so most of what I've had here is just closet made."
no subject
Tohru is just finishing up the salmon the stove and then she'll be all done, but something Bree said is stuck on her mind - something she can't help asking.
"Does that mean your mom is here in Wonderland with you?"
(no subject)
(sorry this is later than normal; I've been on hiatus!)
no worries!

C - 1/2
Dipper's balanced precariously on a statue's head when he catches sight of Tohru. There's something familiar about her... he pauses in his journey, frowning hard, as he tries to place her.
Then he gasps and falls off the statue.
"Oh my gosh. You're Tohru!"
2/2
She adjusts herself on the statue. "Oh my gosh, you're, like, Wonderland Famous, and I bet you totally don't even remember. Um. I'm Mabel! And the boy drowning in lava down there is my twin brother Dipper. We're big fans of your cafe."
no subject
"Oh! I'm sorry, are you oka--"
But then the other person there knows her too, and suddenly Tohru isn't really sure what to say to...well, any of that, really.
"Wonderland famous?!" Souji told her about the diner, but she never would have expected that anyone would think of her as some sort of celebrity. "N-No, no, that can't possibly be right! Me? Famous? I-I can't think of anything I would have done to warrant that oh, but I guess I wouldn't, huh. B-But it's not like I'm some sort of celebrity chef or anything fancy like that!"
She seems to belatedly realize she's forgotten her manners though, and bows in greeting to the two of them.
"Um, it's really nice to meet you. I'm...Tohru Honda, but it sounds like you know that part already," she says, stumbling awkwardly over it. "I'm sorry, but...you're right, I really don't remember any of this."
no subject
Dipper glares up at Mabel because wow, rude, then grabs a pine cone off the ground to throw at her head. Then she can drown in lava too.
"Has anyone showed you the scrapbook? I know it won't jog your memories, but it might at least help fill you in."
