The Story:

Welcome to the Good Place! Your character, tragically, has died in their world. They might not remember how (or maybe they do!) but it’s okay either way because conveniently they have earned enough points to go to the Good Place when they die! They’ve earned a house that they have been told is perfectly suited to them (it is probably not, but who are they to question the universe?!) in an absolutely delightful and quaint little Neighborhood with a frozen yogurt shop on every block. It’s almost irritatingly perfect!

Most importantly though, someone will be living with your character. Someone very, very special - their soulmate, hand-picked from the billions on Earth! Sure, it may not be who (or even what) they expected, but this is what they’ve earned from the good life they’ve lived in your world. They deserve this! They really, truly do.

Everyone is welcome to add details to what exactly is in the Neighborhood - everyone has different standards for what constitutes an "objectively good but still mediocre" neighborhood experience, after all!

"Have you ever put on jeans that fit well? Pretty sure it speaks for itself."

Obviously, Barbie. She steps aside to let him take a closer look at the menu.

"Unexpected Hotel Upgrade is pretty good. I tried that one yesterday. Big 'no' on the Sriracha flavor, though. Seriously. Avoid that one."

"Apparently not," he admits, making a bit of a face. "Since I have no idea what that would even be," he says, frowning as his head cants, considering that.

"Mmmmkay. I don't think I know most of these flavors. I guess bubblegum."

"It's way overhyped. You're not missing out. Skip the Prosecco, too."

Prosecco is a garbage wine for garbage people, okay?

"All these options and you're going with bubblegum?"

"How much have you had today?" Grinning though as he asks, glancing at her with a sheepish grin. "I don't know. I mean, I figured it was the safe bet." He grins though then, shrugging. "Okay fine. You pick for me."

"Too much. But calories don't count in Heaven, you know?"

At least, she hopes they don't. But this is the place who gave her a DVD set for a soulmate so who can really be sure about anything?

She crosses her arms, appraising him. "You look tough, but I bet down inside, you're a softie." Chloe waves at the person serving up the frozen yogurt. "The Softness of a Puppy's Tiny Ears, for this guy."

"More hoping you don't get a stomachache," he admits, though it makes him grin. He can't help but to be happy here, after all, and he's enjoying it as much as he can.

Oh but the smile widens then, especially when she orders for him. Chuckling then, inclining his head in a bow. "I have to say you've nailed me with that. Just the name makes me happy." And she's not wrong. He is a softie. When he's not making the wrong decisions.

"I was a cop. I know all about big tough guys who just want a hug a puppy."

She pauses for a moment, the smile dropping briefly from her face. Something about all of this--being around this man, talking about dogs--seems familiar. A feeling of deja-vu overtakes her for a moment and she stares at him.

"We haven't met before, have we?"

He laughs at that, shaking his head but more than amused by that. "Funny, no cop ever seems to buy that from me." Mostly because he's always at odds with them, unlike here.

That question though catches him off guard, canting his head and considering that as he looks her over, trying to see if he's perhaps missing something in all of this.

"Uhmmm, I don't think so? Where you from?"

She stares at him again, trying to place him, but nothing is coming to mind. It's strange, because she doesn't recognize him. It's a different feeling than that.

"Los Angeles, California. You?"

"Currently Chester's Mill, Maine. From that area as well." Though he realizes as he says it that he counts Chester's Mill more as home than anything. At least it suits for now. "But I've been in the Middle East for a while now."

He gives her a look, trying to place if maybe he has met her somewhere. Damn he's hoping it's not some one night stand he should remember and she's baiting him.

"Haven't been there. Maine or the Middle East."

So that's out of the question. But she's sure she knows him, and he's looking at her like he's trying to puzzle it out, too.

"Well, the good news is that means I probably haven't ever arrested you." Now, that would be an odd conversation to have in the Good Place.

He chuckles at that thought, figuring it can't hurt to be honest. He made it to Heaven anyway, apparently.

"Trust me. Not been arrested so often I wouldn't have remembered that." He holds up his hands though. "Not that I'm a criminal or anyone to worry about." Okay so one of those statements was true.

"Saying that just makes me think I need to keep an eye on you."

She joking. And... maybe flirting. She's not actually sure.

"So, how you settling into our new, eternal home?"

"Feel free," he says with a grin. "Especially if it comes with frozen yogurt."

How could he say no, even if he finds the names amusing and sometimes uncertain about them. This one though, this is he can live with, even if he should be bothered by how well the name nailed him.

"I'm... it's... no. It's nothing I would have picked for a few years, nonetheless for eternity."

"Kind of the same for me. Nothing about this is what I expect. Including the frozen yogurt flavors."

To be fair, Chloe had expected nothing. Literally nothing. She never believed in any of this.

"My place is okay, but I'm not crazy about the decor."
