Yes, Ushiromiya-kun, I am quite certain that this little fellow comes in peace and seeks nothing but friendship! When I discovered him, he ran all over the course of my body without biting me even once. If that does not mean friendship, then I do not know what does!

[ Oh god, Ishimaru, she likes you just fine but you're so.. weird!! ]

I.. guess I can't argue with that. [ Or more like "I sense that no argument here will help".. Ange may have way too much time in this place, but she still doesn't feel like wasting it on something useless. ] I'm just saying it since there was a scorpion in my advent box, and it sure did not want to be friends.

A scorpion?! [He is very quickly alarmed by this information.] That is very alarming! What happened, Ushiromiya-kun? Were you hurt? Do you require medical attention??

Hey, are you seriously getting startled over that now after declaring this thing here your little friend? [ Pointing at the spider..

Still, the concern is rather nice, even if no real reaction about it shows up on her face. Got to play it cool! ]

I'm fine, someone helped me hunt it down and get rid of it. I was more worried about it running around and causing trouble for other people, since I accidentally dropped it.

That is a very different case! You made it clear from the beginning that your scorpion had an intention to harm! Furthermore, I would not call this spider a "thing"!

[A beat.]

In any case, I am glad that you are unharmed, and that the threat has been done away with. That was very responsible of you, Ushiromiya-kun!

[entreats]

Yeah, you know me. The most responsible person in this place. [ Yes, that's deadpan sarcasm. (And she's also apparently the most rude person to spiders in this place.) ]

Anyway, that's why I thought that maybe this would be a poison spider too or something along those lines. You know how much this place likes throwing dangerous things at us.

[ Although they're usually bigger than scorpions and spiders. ]

Yes, I understand your position entirely! We have to be cautious when it comes to Wonderland and its apparent gifts. That is why I am keeping this spider contained. Just in case it actually is poisonous! [He is very lucky it hasn't bitten him.]

You know, considering that the spider seems intimidating, but can actually be a dear friend... Maybe I should name him after you, Ushiromiya-kun!

[entreats]

[ Ishimaru accomplishes the impossible.

Ange is just.. speechless. There are no words for that suggestion. Other than "give me a second, I'm going to jump straight into that black void that's eating up everything around us", maybe.

After a minute of awkward staring, she just slowly says: ]

Ah. So you think me and your new spider friend are alike.

[moraloutrage]

[To think he even managed to get her to grant him access! Oblivious to what he's accomplished, he smiles while tapping at the spider's container.]

In some respects! Of course, I would not have you placed within a container. And you certainly seem to possess a different number of legs! [He chuckles at his own, clearly brilliant joke.] But in terms of general temperament, I feel that you are similar!

[entreats]

I don't know whether I should be taking this as a compliment or an insult.

[ Of course she knows. Ishimaru wouldn't go out of his way to insult people on purpose, she thinks, so she's pretty sure it's supposed to be a compliment.. But that's not exactly how most people feel when being compared to a potentially dangerous spider. ]

Ah... B-but I would never wish to insult you, Ushiromiya-kun! This is only meant to be complimentary in nature! It should be nice to be compared to a species as hard-working, helpful and proud as a spider!

[entreats]

[ Not to mention creepy and potentially lethal?

.. then again, she has killed a person, so maybe she shouldn't be so offended by that latter comparison. ]

Then what species would you like to be compared to? I'll keep it in mind for if I ever decide to get a pet. [ As if that's so easy in this place!! ]

[He'd prefer to say misunderstood!

At her question, he pauses and rubs his chin in thought.]

Hmmm... That is an interesting question, Ushiromiya-kun! I have never considered what sort of animal I would compare myself to before. If I think about it, I feel that I would strive to be like a dog. Specifically, one of the breeds that can pull sleds. Loyal and hardworking. That is what I am for!

Of course, I would be honored if you named any sort of an animal after me!

[entreats]

Huh. I guess I can kind of see it.

[ Why is she comparing him to an animal after just getting offended about him doing the same! Who knows, apparently Ange is just good at being hypocritical.. ]

You have the same kind of charm as puppies do. Way too enthusiastic and not knowing when to stop. In an oddly cute way.

[Ishimaru thinks nothing of it. If anything, he just thinks she's coming around to seeing it his way!]

Ah, thank you! [He responds to her by bowing.] Th-that is a very favorable comparison, Ushiromiya-kun! I feel flattered by it!

[ To be fair, it was a little more flattering. Although she did still kind of imply he's a lapdog.. ]

No need to thank me, I'm just saying what I'm thinking. [ For better or worse.

She pauses for a second, but then feels that maybe, just maybe, she should also be talking about the more important point he brought up to begin with. ]

So the void that's threatening to eat us all alive is still ever expanding, huh?

In any case, I appreciate your thoughts! [He insists!

And then as she brings up the much grander problem, he straightens out with a frown.]

...Ah... Yes, unfortunately, that is an accurate summary of the situation! At this point, practically everything save for the mansion itself has been consumed. I... am afraid that I am at a loss as to what to do about this!

[entreats]

Well, there probably isn't much we can do about it. [ Not the most helpful of answers, and maybe a little pessimistic, but in Ange's opinion it's also the most realistic thing to say right now. ]

Even if we wanted to do something, what could we do? There's not even any sign of what's making it expand like this day by day. And knowing this place, it'll probably all just turn back to normal after a while anyway.

While it is possible that this is another unusual event that will reverse itself, I do not wish to count on it! This has been going for longer than ordinary events... and with how odd things have been in the past months, I- I do worry that this may be part of the way that Wonderland may be changing! The queens and Jabberwock are gone, people have been returning without forgetting this world... I do not know what to make of everything when you put it all together!

[He sighs and then frowns thoughtfully.]

Regardless, I do not want to give up! I want to keep on working hard to see if I can find any way to help with this problem, instead of awaiting the possibility of Wonderland reverting to normal!

[ Ishimaru, you're too good for this world. And certainly too good for Ange's doomsday views on everything. She isn't too surprised by his answer - it seems very much like him - but at the same time she isn't sure how to feel about it.

Does she want to feel bad for him for uselessly trying to do something about this? Or should she feel bad for not managing to muster up any kind of optimism whatsoever?

It's hard to find answers to that, especially when put on the spot like this, so instead she just decides to go for a neutral question. ]

.. In that case, what do you plan on trying?

[He doesn't want to accept being useless in the face of these overwhelming phenomenon. He wants to believe that hard work can change the world! But he frowns uncertainly as he ponders that.]

W-well, you see... I am still in the process of planning what it is that I am planning to try! I intend to investigate all of the strange occurrences that have been happening throughout Wonderland - the disappearances and those advent gifts! Somewhere in all of that, there has to be a clue that can help us to put together a course of action!

So... To start, we should think about those unusual gifts that we've been receiving!

The advent boxes?

[ When they first showed up, she thought they might contain at least some clues too, but most of the content has been fairly useless in that regard.. The stuff like spiders and scorpions seems more designed to startle them than anything else. ]

The only thing I could think about that could even contain a clue are those weird poems.

Correct! [He states affirmatively.]

Ah yes, I did get a poem myself on the first day. It moved me to tears! It is true that they could contain clues... Why don't we fetch our poems and compare them, Ushiromiya-kun?

That's not exactly the reaction Ange has seen to these poems, but then again, it is Ishimaru. Maybe he's just being his usual self? Can't say it doesn't make her slightly curious what his said though. ]

Sure. That sounds like a good idea. Let's go take a look at them.

I look forward to the results of our readings! I actually happen to have my poem on my person... [He pulls a paper out of his pocket, which is folded into a small square, perfectly neatly. He intricately begins to unfold it.] What of you, Ushiromiya-kun? Do you have yours on you, or should I wait for you to go to your room?
