Summary: ~~I HAVE NO IDEA.~~ Kobato receives a surprise guest during her stay at Vexen and Saix's room. ♥
The Story:

A few days had passed, since Hiro-kun had returned. Kobato was happy; very happy that her friend had come back unharmed, but something seemed very wrong at the exact same time. He spoke of danger, telling her to stay together with someone, and Kobato had immediately obeyed, taking shelter with Vexen-san and Saix-san. In all honesty, she still was unsure of what was happening, but she trusted Hiro-kun, and knew with all of her heart that he would never lie about something so serious, even if she did not know exactly what the danger was.

For the moment though, she was alone. Kobato dared not venture out alone, not after Hiro-kun's warning, but Saix-san and Vexen-san were both out, and she was left alone in that quiet room. Her thoughts couldn't help but drift to Hiro-kun and everyone else.

" I hope everyone's okay..." she said very softly to herself. She was terribly worried, and that just didn't suit her. She would just have to find something to take her mind off of it, until she could be of some use. Besides, Kobato was sure Saix-san and Vexen-san wouldn't want to see her upset when they returned.

It might be inappropriate to do this.

...Well, no. Hiro knows it's inappropriate. He has things he should be doing. He should be capturing Dinobot, or keeping a better eye on those drawn from the past.

But he wants to do this. A mere note to himself left on a desk won't fix everything.

That and...

Abruptly, Hiro teleports himself into the room, some feet behind Kobato. He looks at her, frowning a little.

"Kobato-chan," he says quietly.

At the sound of her name, Kobato nearly jumps out of her skin. She turns around very abruptly, her eyes wide. Kobato then calms, upon seeing just who is there.

" Hiro-kun!" she exclaims, smiling wide. " It's so good to see you again!"

Kobato said this as though it had been years, even though, in her case anyway, it had been mere days. Her natural worry for him seemed to stretch the time, and could be heard in her voice, even now. She notices then, how Hiro-kun appears just a bit different now, at least from now he used to be.

" You look..." She's not sure what to say at first. She ponders calling it different or strange, but eventually settles on "...you look nice, Hiro-kun!"

Faintly, he smiles. How so very... well, Kobato-like of her to settle on the compliment.

"I'm happy to see you again, Kobato-chan," Hiro replies, very honestly. Like it really has been ages for him.

He approaches her, taking a moment to observe, then looks relieved.

"You're just as I remember you," Hiro says quietly. "I'm glad."

He takes in a breath. Down to business.

"You understand my powers, Kobato-chan. That I can bend time. Then... I ask you to understand this: I'm Hiro, five years in the future from now. The Hiro you know has time-traveled by accident."

It takes Kobato a moment, to fully absorb this new information. She knows, of course, of Hiro-kun's power. Even traveling back and forth through time doesn't quite elude her.

No, it is the reason Hiro-kun looks so different, the fact that this Hiro-kun isn't the Hiro-kun she knows, that cause her to pause, filling with worry once more.

" So...you're from the future?" she asks. " You're Hiro-kun, but...not Hiro-kun?"

Without another moment to spare, she blurts out her immediate worries. She can no longer contain them.

" If you're not Hiro-kun...not this Hiro-kun," Kobato asks, " then where is Hiro-kun? What happened? Is he okay? How...Hiro-kun...Hiro-kun, what's going on?"

"It's okay," Hiro replies quickly. "I'm sorry, Kobato-chan -- I didn't mean to worry you. I..."

Just like her. He can't help but smile a little.

"The Hiro you know will appear again in about a week. I remember that. He'll be just fine, I promise."

Gently, he sets a hand to her shoulder. "Kobato-chan, I need to talk to you about something very important, though. Something you need to be very careful about who you'll share this with. Can you handle that?"

" He will?"

This comforts Kobato just a bit. The thought of anything happening to any of her dear friends was hard to bear. She smiles at that and says " I'm so glad, Hiro-kun."

His touch puts her heart more at ease. With that, Kobato nods, meeting his eyes with a determined face.

" You can count on me, Hiro-kun," she says. " I won't tell anyone. ...What is it?"

Hiro pauses to think, then nods. "You must only tell your friends when I am gone, and when your Hiro comes back. It is important."

He trusts her. He always has.

"Some years from now, we discover that dying five times in the mansion causes you to lose a part of yourself forever. A part that is essential, that makes you who you truly are." Hiro frowns. "This happened to Dinobot. You do not know him now, but it is better to find out more about him from Rattrap or Depth Charge. Ask them, when I am gone. When Dinobot became what he is in the future, he was an enemy."

Hiro shakes his head. "You remember the Queen of Hearts. The Red Lady-san. The woman who took some people into her mirrorverse. She allies herself with this version of Dinobot in the future. She causes... devastation. Many people die in the future, Kobato -- in a way that don't come back. Namine-chan, Axel, Saix -- many people."

He can't hide regret now. He just...

He stares at her, sadly. "These people won't come back. It has to be stopped, Kobato-chan." He shouldn't be telling her. But he knows--

He's going to do anything he can to stop what happens, five years from now.

" I promise, Hiro-kun," she says, and listens carefully to what he says.

She nods along, paying absolute attention, but as Hiro-kun continues, Kobato's eyes widen, and she becomes more and more horrified by the news. After he says Saix-san's name, she can no longer hold it back, and she finds herself crying.

" They...They don't come back?" she is choking on her words throguh her sobs. " Red Lady-san...Red Lady-san and the Dinobot-san from the future...they..."

But Kobato can't finish the sentence. After a moment, after she can speak again without crying quite as much, she says, "...I want to stop it too, Hiro-kun. I want...I want to make things right, for everyone."

"I'm sorry, Kobato-chan."

He reaches into his jacket and offers her a handkerchief. He hates seeing her cry like this, but he knows how much she cares about people.

"I'll write down names for you -- but be aware not all of them have shown up in the mansion just yet. You must tell them. You must tell the people you trust most... so we can save them, and the future."

Hiro looks around, then spots the pad on the night table.

He writes down the names. All of them.

He hesitates at the last name.

Kobato Hanato

Hiro turns, offering the note to her, almost painfully. "Keep this with you, all the time. And never let a--"

Oh. Damn, the mirror. The mirror on the wall.

"Kuso," he hisses under his breath, taking out his katana and slashing the mirror in half.

He hopes she didn't...

She probably did.

Kobato takes the handkerchief and dries her eyes. She can't help but cry, but she seems to have calmed down, for the time being.

" These people," her voice shakes again - there are so many names...she can't bring herself to look at the entire list just yet, " I have to tell them all...that they're going to di-?"

At that moment though, Hiro-kun breaks the mirror and Kobato jumps once again as it shatters. She just stares, horrified, watching the pieces fall. She remembers the last time mirrors had to be broken.

" ...H-Hiro-kun?"

"You will have to, after I leave, and your Hiro returns," he replies, turning around to look at Kobato.

His head nods towards the mirror. "The Queen has an advantage through the mirrors. I'm afraid we can't stay in this room. I will not chance losing my friend."

Hiro offers his hand to Kobato, frowning. He'll apologize to Vexen and Saix later about this, but for now, he has to keep Kobato safe.

Kobato nods, but she has paled considerably. She must, but she's not even sure she can. She can't even imagine going up to someone and telling them something like that. But, she nods. She will, for the sake of the future.

Her eyes widen. An advantage through the mirrors? And they would have to leave? She felt terribly about that, for a moment, for leaving Vexen-san and Saix-san like this, even though they had been so kind by taking her in.

She trusts Hiro-kun though, so she nods and takes his hand. " Okay, Hiro-kun."

"I will explain what I can to Vexen. I must speak with him, anyway."

Gently, he takes her hand, and nods. "Until I can find a safer location, you'll stay with me, Kobato-chan."

He can't risk her life with chancing her capture by the Queen or Dinobot now.

As soon as he takes her hand, he teleports out of the room.

" Thank you, Hiro-kun," she says. It doesn't seem right to leave without a word to the friends who were so kind as to take her in. She is still nervous, still very nervous about the list securely in her pocket, but she knows that she will be safe as long as she is with Hiro-kun.

"...For everything."

And then they are gone.
