KARAOKE PARTY!

Who: Linda, Kite, everyone else in the mansion who wants to come.
Where The Dining Room
When: Saturday Night, January 12th
Rating: PG. At most, PG 13.
Summary: Linda has been talking about a Karaoke Party with Kite for weeks now, and finally it’s a reality.
the Story:

The sky was darkening, and soon it would be night. It was almost time. Time for the party.

Linda had to thank the mansion. Over the past weeks, it had been giving her CD after CD and eventually a karaoke machine itself. By now, the musical collection for tonight was well into the thousands, containing any song that anyone ever might even think to sing. She was excited. No one would be left out because they lacked a song. In fact, no one would be left out. Or else.

Spinning about the dining room, a trail of confetti flying about behind her, Linda danced to the music in her head while finishing her decorations. Bowls of food and snacks lined the tables along the sides of room while a massive stage took up the back wall. All of which were now covered in a coat of confetti. The room seemed to sparkle, almost as if it wished to join in the party as well.

“Kite!” Linda called, “Kite! It’s like, almost totally time! We’ve got to like, totally greet everyone and stuff!”

For a second there he was afraid he was going to have to fight. Fortunately, it looked like Kite had managed to save himself. For now. This time he did chuckle nervously.

"Ah, uh..." He was too afraid to check his calculations for his chance of survival. "Uhh... it's... a surprise?" It certainly was. So much of a surprise even he didn't know yet.

Kite sighed a little. Linda seemed satisfied. That meant he was still in the clear.

She wanted to look at the songs? Perfect, he was saved! The AI smiled a little less please-don't-hurt-me now and was more along the lines of actually-cheerful. He liked Linda a lot more when she wasn't threatening him, she was a really nice girl.

He floated up to the stage behind her. "Not sure either," he said with a shrug. "Never tried... 'karaoke' before." How was it different from just singing, anyway?

The sudden music startled Kite a little, but he kind of expected it after Linda started jabbing at every button on the machine. He sighed a little peering over her shoulder at the device. So... the lyrics came up on the screen? That was more useful for those who couldn't download lyrics into their brains, he supposed, but it would certainly save him time if he could just scan them off the screen.

The music varied from pleasant to making him want to shut off his audio processors. Nothing really interested him, though, not that he really wanted to sing anyway. However, one particular song stood out.

"Ah, go back," he asked. It was really familiar for some reason... Where did he hear that?

Kite paused. It certainly sounded... bubbly, if nothing else, but it was familiar. He couldn't recall from where, though. Maybe it was one of Aura's memories...

"Nn, know this one," he commented.

Wait, what?! He never said--

But a microphone was already shoved into his hands. Oh shit. This was a bad idea. He was totally going to screw up now, and then something horrible involving some weird thing called silly string would happen! He was doomed! And now it was his turn? What should he do?!

"" he muttered nervously as Linda began to finish her line. Then the words showed up and he just tried to follow the notes listed under the file. "Toss a ver coin and wait! Our tination is the future, there's a path."

Ohgod, he was doing horribly, wasn't he? The AI hid his face behind his collar a little.

...Well, at least no one was horrified by his terrible voice. That was a good sign, right? Or maybe they were just too stunned to speak. Stunned by his terrible voice.

And it was his turn again (why did Linda have to have such short lines?!), and now she was kinda grabbing his arm and swaying or something. Fortunately he had stopped floating when the song started, otherwise that would have been even more awkward.

"Tra in mind, have you ever seen a won world?" he sang the chorus with Linda, then--oh, of course, more lines for him. " Meeting daily or more, it's a mystery! We enter a world of adtures."

Still no signs of horrible pain in the audience... this was good, right?

"We look ov our map, now should have the key in hand." Linda had a nice voice, at least.

It was almost over now, wasn't it? Just some more of the chorus... "Travel in mind, have you er seen a wonderful world?"

And just like that... it was over? With a little push from Linda he struck a pose as best he could.

Linda was happy as ever, though, so that was good enough. He liked it when people were happy. Kite smiled. "Ah, you're welcome," he said.

Maybe it wasn't so bad...

"Ah, really?" If the option were possible, he probably would have blushed quite profusely--at both the compliment and the spontaneous hug.

"Nnn, it's fine," he said, shaking his head. "It was... fun. And I'm not that interesting." He was still kind of working on definition of 'fun', and for some reason he didn't think Linda would want to wander around the mansion scanning for AIDA like he normally did.
