Who: Yujinn and any magic user who feels like showing up
Where Kitchen
When: Sometime in the afternoon.
Rating: PG for now
Summary: Yujinn decides to try to meet the various wizards and mages to sort out a more reasonable theory of magic.
Story: Yujinn walked into the kitchen, setting down his papers. He thought he had a decent sorting system worked out, based on various categories. Innate/trained, internal/external focus (focus animate/inanimate), good/bad/indifferent...
He started the list with his own hold magic: TIG, blood magic I/TIB.
Now it was only a matter of who would show up.

"A few months younger than me, actually," Ron replied. "But he's much better with his spellwork than a lot of first years. And his flying is tops! He's the youngest person to make it on a Quidditch team in a hundred years!"

Ron nodded. "That's good. I don't much like cooking."

"What's Quidditch?" Yujinn asked, guessing that it must be some sort of sport. Involving flying?"

He stood and began collecting his papers into a neat pile. He didn't trust this mansion to leave them alone while he went to get his food.

"Oh, it's a wizard sport," Ron responded, forgetting that people outside the wizarding world weren't familiar with it. "It involves broomsticks and hoops and bludgers. Great fun, it is."

Yujinn wasn't sure what to make of that, although it certainly sounded... energetic. "I'd love to see that sometime. What do they do with the brooms?"

Ron tried to remember the simplistic basics of Quidditch, from back when he first explained it to Harry. "Well, you fly on the broomsticks and try to avoid getting hit by the bludgers while getting the quaffle through your goal. The game ends when the team's seeker catches the Golden Snitch." There. That about summed it up.

"Really now?" That was certainly a interesting batch of words. He hadn't the sleightest clue what a quaffle or a snitch was, bludger sounded a bit more descriptive.
"So, flying on broomsticks.. that's a magical focus, or are the brooms enchanted themselves?"

Thinking on it for a moment, Ron replied, "Well, I've never heard of a Muggle on a broomstick, so I guess that's a wizard thing. We learn how to fly in our first year at Hogwarts, but I guess we can take regular brooms and enchant them to fly, though they wouldn't be as fast."

"I see, it sounds facsinating. I wonder if I can find something like that in the bazaar, but I wouldn't know what to look for."

"Are they manufactured like wands? How do those work? Is it like a ruelle that uses the power of a magical creature?"

Ron tried not to blanch at Yujinn's questions. He had never been one to care about the mechanics of how things worked.

"Er, I'm not really sure. But Harry's father, James, is here, too, and he's aces at Quidditch. He probably knows lots more about brooms. I just know that they come in different models... like Muggle cars, I guess."

"I'm sorry for asking you so may questions. I'm not trying to test you or anything, I'm just curious. But I'll ask James then, I've spoken to him before."

"Umm, cars?"

Ron shook his head. "It's all right, I guess. I just don't have a lot of the answers you're looking for."

He was confused by Yujinn's lack of knowledge about cars. Even Ron knew about them. "Yeah, you know. The things with four wheels that Muggles drive through the street, with a wheel inside for steering and different pedals inside to make it move."

"I don't really. There seem to be a lot of machines about that my world is lacking. It sounds like a fascinating piece of machinery though." Ron had implied it was magic, so it must be a machine.

Most people wouldn't be able to imagine a place without cars, but Ron simply assumed that Yujinn came from a place where there were no Muggles. "Well, I don't suppose you'd need them if anyone can learn a bit of magic, right?"

"Well anyone can, but most common folk don't. They ride horses for transportation, or walk." He made a mental note to look up 'cars' in he library when he got a chance.

Ron didn't quite understand. "If anyone can learn magic, then why wouldn't they? I mean, doesn't it make things easier?"

"The royal family is jealous about who they teach holy magic too. Other teachers are few and far between, and many people simply don't have the time. We don't have large schools like you say your world has, and parents need their children at home anyway."

"That's rubbish," Ron proclaimed before he could stop himself. "Everyone's got a right to learn how to use magic if they're born with it! Suppose a kid accidentally does something dangerous because he can't control it. What then?"

"Well, they can't really use magic accidentally. It has to be learned; unless they have some bloodline that's not entirely human. Monster hybreds have their own magic."

Ron was confused again, but simply let it pass. "Oh. I guess magic really is a whole lot different over there than from what I'm used to."

"I'd imagine it would be." He mulled over wha Ron's outburst might mean for he magic on his world. He started walking towards the kitchen.

After a moment, Ron followed after Yujinn, trying to piece together not just different magic techniques, but altogether different kinds of magic. "So, what's it like in your world, then? If everyone knows about magic but not everyone uses it, who decides who gets to learn?"

'It's not like a bureaucracy. Although the royal family tries to teach holy magic only to nobles, it's not strictly illegal for anyone else to learn if they get a teacher." He shrugged, "For anyone else, they can learn if they find a willing teacher, and if they have the leisure time to spend studying magic."

It made some sense to Ron, thought it still seemed a little odd. "Huh," he murmured, more to himself. "So it's like an elective course like Ancient Runes; you don't usually learn it if you don't have to."

"I suppose that's right. Don't have to or can't afford to." He kept up the pace until he reached the kitchen, going in to find some food, something he couldn't spill on his notes. "Do you know where your magic comes from?"

Entering the kitchen, Ron hoisted himself onto a chair as he thought about it. "Er, inside us, I guess? I don't really know much about history. I sort of fall asleep in that class. Every time."
