Calling all Magic Users 2

Who: Yujinn and any magic user who feels like showing up
Where Kitchen
When: Sometime in the afternoon.
Rating: PG for now
Summary: Yujinn decides to try to meet the various wizards and mages to sort out a more reasonable theory of magic.
Story: Yujinn walked into the kitchen, setting down his papers. He thought he had a decent sorting system worked out, based on various categories. Innate/trained, internal/external focus (focus animate/inanimate), good/bad/indifferent...
He started the list with his own hold magic: TIG, blood magic I/TIB.
Now it was only a matter of who would show up.

Ron had reason to be a bit nervous. For one thing, he had the feeling that this man was going to ask him questions, and so this meeting would be a bit like an exam. He had never been really good at exams. And for another thing, it was his mother that knew more about magic, but she was currently nowhere to be found. He wasn't sure where she went or what he'd be able to say that this person would find helpful.

He stopped by the entranceway of the kitchen, looking at the unfamiliar man within. "Er, hello," he brought up lowly. Clearing his throat, he added, "I'm Ron. Ron Weasley. Are you the bloke who wanted to know about magic?"

In truth, Ron was a bit curious about the type of magic this man used, too. Magic existing without a wand? That sounded scarily powerful. Still, he tried his best not to seem intimidated, and he was hardly conscious of the fact that he was failing miserably.

"Uh, yeah," he murmured, moving towards the table and sitting down opposite the man who called himself Yujinn. "We say a spell - or, er, the older ones can just think a spell - and it comes out of the wand." This didn't apply to potions, of course, but Ron hardly considered potions magical; they were more like chemistry. "Are you doing some kind of experiment on magic?"

Ron couldn't help the way his eyes widened as Yujinn checked something off on his paper. Teachers did that when they were grading something, didn't they? Was he taking some sort of oral exam? Swallowing around his dry mouth, he replied, "Oh. Okay. Sure."

Blinking a bit, Ron tried to wrap his mind around everything he was hearing. He sure hoped there wasn't going to be some sort of surprise quiz on all of the types of magic in the mansion; he could hardly keep track of his own magic!

"Uhm, well," he continued awkwardly, "we're born with some magic. Wizards, that is. Muggles kids might end up being born as wizards - or witches, if they're girls. But we go to school to learn different spells and get better. Otherwise, we just sort of cause a lot of messy accidents, what with quills floating in mid-air after a nasty sneeze or something."

Though Ron wouldn't have had anything against trusting Yujinn, the fact remained that Yujinn was an adult. And Ron was still at the age where he believed most adults lived only to force him to do things he didn't want to do. A bit of uncomfortable shifting was unavoidable.

"Muggle. Er... non-magic types. There are Muggles and there are wizards. The Muggles don't really know about us, because I guess they can't understand magic or would be afraid of us if we could do things that they can't. They're a bit strange like that."

Ron nodded, slowly beginning to loosen up as he saw that there didn't appear to be any right or wrong answers.

"It depends on the wizard. Some of them practice the Dark Arts, and they don't teach that to us in school. But the bad ones, they find a way to learn. Most of them are followers of You-Know-Who, and they're pretty much anti-Muggle. They believe the Purebloods are better than Muggles and Muggle-borns, and... well, things got pretty bad when You-Know-Who led them into power. I don't really remember all that, though. I was just a baby."

Ron's expression became confused before he realized, "Oh, I don't suppose you do know who. Er, that's what we call He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named." Though Harry had the guts to say Voldemort's name, Ron still couldn't bring himself to say it.

He became all the more confused as he asked, "What's inbred?"

Ron smiled a bit, though he was still too conscientious to actually admit that Voldemort's name was a bit on the silly side.

He furrowed his brow as he thought about inbreeding. "Well, most Purebloods marry their cousins, I think. My parents might be related by marriage, but I don't really listen when they talk about that stuff." Wincing, he remarked, "I'll bet the Malfoys and the Blacks are all inbred, then."

Ron gazed at him questioningly before realizing, "What, the Malfoys and Blacks? Well, the Malfoys like to think they're important, but my dad works with Mr. Malfoy and says they're just a bunch of snobs... and other words that he told me not to repeat. I could think of a lot of words for Draco, as I'm 'lucky' enough to be a classmate of his."

He paused for a moment before adding, "The Blacks were big, big supporters of You-Know-Who. Most of them are locked away in Azkaban, though there's one here right now. He says he's not evil, and everyone seems to believe him...."

He didn't know what to make of Yujinn's constant giggling, as he didn't think he'd been saying anything funny. Still, he overlooked that in favor of explaining, "His name's Sirius Black. He killed a whole mess of people ten years ago, where I'm from. But here, he's only a teenager and says he never did any of that. Still, he didn't act at all surprised when I told him what he'd end up doing in the future, so I wonder sometimes."

Ron shrugged. "This time nonsense is just as big a mystery to me. I've met my friend's father, but he's only a few years older than us."

He thought briefly about the idea of being able to meet himself. "Well, apparently, three versions of Harry have been through here, but never at the same time. I'd think that, if they all could pop up at the same time, they would have by now, right?"

Ron grinned, as he so often did when he got to proclaim his close relationship with the famous Harry Potter. "Best mate, he is. Harry Potter's the one who defeated You-Know-Who, and he was only a baby at the time. He doesn't remember it, of course, but he's a very powerful wizard, just the same."

[identity profile] chess-wizard.livejournal.com 2009-08-05 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh yeah," Ron quickly agreed. "He's the best wizard there is. Or one of the best, at the very least."

He sheepishly cleared his throat, not at all willing to vocalize You-Know-Who's real name. "I guess. Er, we wouldn't have to cook, would we?"

[identity profile] chess-wizard.livejournal.com 2009-08-05 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
"A few months younger than me, actually," Ron replied. "But he's much better with his spellwork than a lot of first years. And his flying is tops! He's the youngest person to make it on a Quidditch team in a hundred years!"

Ron nodded. "That's good. I don't much like cooking."
