Summary: The Garden is making friends!
The Story:
There is a thread for each of the Garden NPCs, even those whose interactions can be hand-waved (just in case!). Their effects are also there, as a reminder.

Anyone can respond to any of the NPCs, even if you didn't sign up on the event announcement post. In the subject of the tag, indicate when during the event the interaction takes place, and where if possible. This will serve as a point of reference. Both prose and action-style tags are welcome!

"It's okay if they do though." Minato thought it might be. If it were all to save the world.

"Nanako was there, but she never told me if she remembered it or not. I admitted it to my uncle, but he didn't believe."

Not that Minato could blame either of them. "It's still okay though. You're you. You know what you've accomplished."

"It's the same for you."

Minato nodded. He wasn't sure if it was the same though.

"You think you'll tell them?"

He shook his head. "There's no reason to."

Minato wouldn't have pushed for either way since he only wanted to know how Souji was going to handle it. He turned the ring around his finger again.

"I should let you have this."

Souji blinked in surprise and set his cup down. "She made it for you."

[jivitadana]

Minato smiled, knowing that was true. He knew.

"But if you take it, it might go back with you."

[eatsyourscience]

Souji blinked at him. He hadn't considered that.

"...I don't think I could take it from you."

[jivitadana]

"You wouldn't have to worry about taking it if I gave it to you."

"'Accept' it, then."

[jivitadana]

Minato smiled. "You don't have to then."

But he did take the ring off, holding his hand out afterward for Souji's hand.

"Just humor me for a second."

Souji looked at the ring, then took it from Minato, holding it in his palm.

Minato took the ring and slid it onto Souji's ring finger. He held onto Souji's hand gently, looking at the way the colorful ring had fit.

Souji looked too and smiled a little.

"... If I do see you again at home, then I'll know it's you."

Souji looked up at Minato through his bangs, moving only his eyes. He let out a slow breath.

"You want me to have it?"

[jivitadana]

Minato thought about that for a second. He knew that it was asking too much of Souji, as much as Souji might have believed in the promise that he had kept. It was too much pressure. It was too much to have Souji always be the side of the coin flipped face up, even if it was true.

Minato could ask for it back any time. Souji would return it. But for now, he closed his hands around Souji's, just to let his friend wear it for just a little longer.

The ring might not return with Souji when they both went home. Nothing guaranteed that. But aside from all the reasons above, Minato could let Souji keep it for now. The ring was precious to Minato, and he wanted to let Souji know how precious he was to him too.

Souji nodded, clasping Minato's hands in turn.

"I'll hold onto it for you until the time comes for you to take it back."

[jivitadana]

"Thank you." Minato nodded and gently let go of Souji's hands. He brought his free hand up to his chest where he felt his Velvet Key on its string.

"I know you'll take good care of it."

Souji nodded and pulled his hands back toward himself, watching the way the beads caught the light from the windows.

Minato could think that it was a part of him that he was letting Souji hang onto, some part he was leaving with Souji for safekeeping.

"It's cute."

[eatsyourscience]

Souji nodded. "It should be, since a little girl made it."

[jivitadana]

"It's cute on you." Minato smiled.
