dying at the mental image of Kevin's reaction. XD
She bites at her lower lip to stifle a laugh at Kevin's reaction. She can't blame him in the least. Her last experience like this had been pretty miserable. Had to be, if a crime scene was considered better. She moves to join him and the nameless plainclothes detective, taking a moment to flash her badge just to reassert her authority. She's assuming she has some here. She has to, right? They're supposed to be the stars of these things.
"If I could have a moment alone with Detective Tran, please." She offers the unfamiliar detective her most persuasive smile, and though his expression flattens in reply, he takes a few steps away to give them some space. Once he's out of earshot, she leans in, glancing out over the crime scene to quickly appraise it as best she can.
"You okay, Kevin?" she asks, her voice low.
100% done!
"I'm... sad I didn't watch more of these," he lands on, then looks up at her. "I watched a few, but. I wasn't really into them. And I think that's Detective Tran." His smile is teasing; he's coming around.
"How about you?"
no subject
"Right. Detective Tran." Couldn't forget that. "I'm okay. We're in one piece, anyway, which given the nature of some of these shows? Might not be the case for everyone."
She sighs, putting her hands on her hips and looking out over the crime scene. "So. We'll have to solve this -- or at least try. Luckily, people in our line of work know a little something about murder scenes."
Well, her line of work, but Kevin was in the business by proxy, right?
no subject
"Yeah, this can't be too hard, right? If it has to be solved in about forty minutes, and it comes on network TV..."
He trails off, and then starts approaching the scene, his eyes roving all over everywhere. He chews his lip.
"Should we bag his hands? I feel like they bag peoples' hands a lot."
no subject
"You know, I'm not sure I ever figured out why they bag their hands, but... yeah. Seems legit. That's what we're aiming for, right?"
If nothing else, this particular event has taught her that while she's great at bluffing and manipulation for the sake of poker games and other job-related situations, actual acting? Not exactly her forte.
"First, we figure out the cause of death. Then we can start searching for a motive."

He sees her puffing herself up and wonders if he should too, but he's not sure anything he could do would earn him respect as a young Asian teenager who looks like he should be going to forensics club, not actually being a forensic investigator.
"Right. Look for any obvious signs of death. Um... Blood, injuries, weird... coloration. We can make preliminary notes and then see what the coroner says." He looks up at her, the corner of his mouth lifting. The message is implied: they've totally got this.
