Summary: Genesis had tried to ask for a way to make amends, but you can't simply heal a deep wound with a band-aid.
The Story:

It doesn't take long at all for Genesis to get to the bar. In all honesty, he expected that the younger SOLDIER would ask him for a story prior to their meeting, but it seems as if he truly felt comfortable enough with him for them to meet so suddenly like this.

Somehow, it touches Genesis and gives him a little hope.

So, he takes his seat at the bar and waits for Zack to appear. In the meantime, he'll order his first beer.

Some things were better asked about in person than by text.

Though Zack still had no way of knowing why, exactly, Genesis had asked to meet him for drinks, there was a nagging feeling in the back of his mind that something wasn't right. They didn't hang out all the time so he couldn't really know what that might be, but he did intend to find out before the evening was over.

Genesis didn't have to wait long, either. Looking much the same as he always did, Zack walked over to where the other SOLDIER was sitting and scooted onto the chair next to him.

"Hey."

"Hey."

Genesis' reply was quiet. A hand curls around the cold beer offered to him before he turns to look at the man who had come to join him at the bar.

"I'm glad you came."

'I'm glad you came.'

It was a striking response...and an odd one. He wasn't inclined to just take it at face value, either, especially considering the random nature of the invitation.

"Anytime."

His brow furrowing slightly, he ordered his own drink and returned his attention to the other SOLDIER.

"Something on your mind?"

When asked, Genesis took a deep breath and spoke.

"I've tried to make amends. But it seems as if it won't be happening. I've fallen too far from what I used to be."

A true frown settled on his face when Genesis answered. He'd talked to Sephiroth about Genesis and Angeal not too long ago, and he'd done his best to put in a good word for the both of them. He couldn't know exactly what was said, of course not, but it didn't make him happy to hear that things weren't going well.

"What happened?"

"I tried to speak with him... with Sephiroth. Angeal encouraged me to. I said I wanted to make amends for what I had done. But he tells me that I am but a shadow of who I am. One who commands nothing of his respect any longer."

Genesis continues to simply cradle the bottle, not taking a sip at all.

"I cannot argue with that."
