guys can be cat ladies too [open]
Who: Agent Washington and YOU!
Where: Various hallways and one of the tea rooms.
When: January 12th
Rating: PG, I guess?
Summary: While things are still relatively quiet since Christmas, Wash spends time with his new kitten friend.
The Story:
[Things haven't been completely awful around Wonderland since Christmas, all things considered. In fact, Wash has found that it's been kind of quiet, at least compared to the norm. It's probably been the best couple of weeks he's had here, even, though there's been a contributing factor to it. And that contributing factor is the gift he found in his stocking on Christmas day. No, not the doll body that the Duchess left in there for him, that one was pretty unsettling. No, no, the gift he was given is far less creepy, and in fact is following him around the hallways.
On tiny little feet, a ginger kitten trots behind the soldier, who occasionally glances back over his shoulder to make sure she's still there. And she is. She's surprisingly obedient for a cat, but Wash isn't complaining. The little ball of fur is probably the best gift Wonderland could have given him; she reminds him of his cats back home. The ones he had to leave behind when he enlisted in the military. It's been nice to have the company again.
Now, the sight is a little more out of the ordinary than simply a full grown man being followed by a kitten. Hell, that image is kind of cute. But this one? Well, this is a full grown man in high tech power armour being followed around by a kitten. Just because he has the company of a cat again doesn't mean Wash is going to let Wonderland catch him off guard. This time he did leave his helmet back in his room, so that's a step in the right direction, but... he's also got a feathery wand-like cat toy grasped in his hand. Which, really, only manages to make the sight stranger yet.
Finding an open door down one hallway, Wash peeks his head in and finds that it's an empty tea room. It's not exactly what he was looking for, but he decides it works and steps inside, the kitten still following.]
Come on, Apricot. [It's not really necessary, since she's practically on his heels as it is, but he has a habit of talking to cats, okay? Then traipsing over to a chair, Wash sits himself down and then proceeds to brandish the cat toy in front of the kitten, who immediately begins batting at it and chasing it.
And this is where Wash will be for a large portion of the afternoon, alternating between waving a feather wand in front of a cat and letting said cat take a nap. Hell, he might even take a nap himself at one point. Might as well enjoy the quiet time while it's here, right?]

The Covenant? [ Waaaait a second. That's ringing some bells here, but she doesn't say anything right off. ] Aliens haven't really come to say hi to us yet, but I'm waiting for it. Dinosaur aliens are cooler sounding than the typical spindly looking ones people make up.
[ Those guys look uber creepy. Still kneeled down to the kitten, she pets Apricot gently with a finger over her tiny head, grinning down at her. ] Do you spend a lot of time up there? [ She almost says in the black because she'd recently had a Firefly marathon, but lingo doesn't always carry over so well. ] Just wondering how it feels to be on solid ground for an extended, unexpected stay. Kind of like shore leave!
[ Except with terror filled days every now and then, no big. ]

[He remembers that from history class way back in school, he thinks. People having ridiculous ideas of what aliens looked like. But that was a long time ago, and leads him to wonder how far into the past she's from, if she's from Earth.]
Well, most of my time is spent on a ship in space. It's my program's base of operations, so yeah, a lot of time is one way of putting it. [Tipping his head as he considers it, his gaze drifts down to rest on Apricot, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as she purrs softly in response to the attention.] But we spend a lot of time out on missions, too, and a good portion of those are on actual planets, so solid ground isn't unfamiliar. But it is kind of nice to have it under my feet for so long. That's kind of one of the few perks to being stuck here.
[Although he prefers the dangers from his own universe to the ones in Wonderland. At least the ones there makes sense. Everything here is too ridiculous for his tastes.]

[ Who knows, maybe there were demons once upon a time who liked screwing with people to the point of making them hallucinate aliens like that. She's heard crazier. ]
I guess you're pretty good with a gun, right? [ She has to wonder what kind and if there's lasers. ] Please tell me there's some kind of lightsaber or my dreams will be crushed.

[Chuckling faintly, he comes to a half-awkward pause when she mentions demons. Definitely not the kind of thing he's dealt with before, not even in Wonderland yet, but now he's more curious about where she's from. And if she's used to dealing with crazy, supernatural sort of things because currently he's both fascinated and terrified by all that stuff.]
Uh yeah, I guess I am. [He's a little humble about his abilities, but you know. He can kick ass pretty decently.] I'm... A lightsaber? Is that some sort of gun, or something? I don't think I'm familiar...
[He frowns faintly behind the helmet, silently going over the name of all the weapons he knows and trying to come up with 'lightsaber.' The last thing he wants to do is crush anyone's dreams.
...But while he's asking his own questions...]
This is kind of off-topic, but you mentioned demons... Are those a real thing where you're from?

[ Maybe not all the movies, but just the important ones - the old ones. ]
Ah, yeah. Demons and angels and all kinds of stuff. [ It threw her for a loop when she learned about them, even with all those years of fantasy reading under her belt. Thinking about the afterlife, or supernatural creatures actually being a thing were options she didn't consider, not really. As often as she lives in her own imagination, reality can be nice when it grounds her. ] Only found out about them a few years ago myself. Most of them are pretty nasty, and super tricky.

[Nod, nod. He hasn't seen a movie in a long time either, so he could definitely get into that!]
Angels too? [Instantly he thinks back to everything he's heard about them from Adam and his expression becomes highly uncertain. Doesn't sound like any of these creatures are any good, and he certainly doesn't envy anyone who's from a world with them. However, she has him much more intrigued now.] Yeah... I've heard about some of that. I can't even imagine what that must be like. What other things are real there? Like, vampires and werewolves?

[ Even if it's a little dated, who cares? It's space! ]
You name it, we got it. It's pretty nuts, and trust me - no matter how many supernatural books you read things are always super different. [ Like the vampires don't sparkle who would have thought? ] I actually ran into a witch recent-ish. Straight from the Wizard of Oz books, it was pretty scary.

I look forward to it, in that case.
[Hey, he can handle old movies, anyway. Old movies can be good! All the better if he gets to see what might be someone's idea of the future, or something. And these "lightsabers" sound pretty interesting, too.]
Wait, really? A witch? Out of a book? [If they weren't currently standing in Wonderland, he'd say that's completely insane.] Wow. Did she like, ride around on a broom and cast spells and everything? And make potions? And--was she green?
[Important questions, okay. He's absolutely riveted.]

[ What is context? Not needed obviously, because Charlie's still pretty thrilled about the whole thing. Except the part where she died, but she's leaving that out. ]
She wasn't like green, but she was ugly. I'm talking super bad, she needs to find her local dentist to get her teeth looked at. [ It was gross, trust her. ] She did a bunch of spell casting, too, trying to off us. Even possessed a couple of my friends to be her puppets or something.
I took her down, though. [ And she sounds proud, because seriously. She took down the Wicked Witch of the West. How rad is that? ] I got her in the back of the head with a ruby slipper and the rest is history!

...Wow. Sounds like real witches are a lot scarier and meaner than they ever come off in movies and cartoons. [Noted. Not that he expects to ever run into a witch. ...Or, he hopes not, after hearing all of this... But it would be just his luck if Wonderland brought one in after he's learned about them.]
Really? That's awesome. [His approval is high--it's always nice to hear success stories of other people. And know that they're capable of defending themselves, too.] So, is that something you do often? Defeat supernatural things? I heard someone mention people like that here... Monster hunters?
no subject
[ It was a weird day at the office. ]
I ran into a couple of hunters, and once I was in I got hooked! [ Well, except for that broken arm... ] Okay, not instantly, but that's because my arm got pretty borked. Took me some time, but once I was in I was in. I think we've got ourselves a handful of hunters around, yeah. The two who I ran into are here!

[He needs a second to just stare, horrified at that idea. Finding out your boss is a monster that eats people. ...Hell, finding out your boss is a monster at all, that just sounds...mentally scarring.
He has to wonder how many people who come into contact with any of these creatures end up in psychiatric hospitals for the rest of their lives.]
Huh. Really? I mean... [Sounding a little disbelieving, Wash takes a second to hum and haw on exactly how to proceed. He's got a lot of questions, so many, but there's one that's more prominent than the others, but it's also got him worried he might end up...offending Charlie.] No offence or anything, but didn't the experience scare you? Obviously I don't know any of the details, but it sounds to me like a situation I wouldn't want to repeat. What managed to draw you into it? Wanting to be a hunter and deal with monsters all the time?

Oh, yeah. I'll tell you a secret that's totally not a secret once you see me in action - I'm a total chickenwuss. [ She looks slightly sheepish about this, since she's taken on the job of a Big Bad Hunter, but half the time she feels like she's just going to pee herself. ] Guess I look at it like I'm overcoming my fears, or something like that. Sounds good on paper, right?
I guess helping people out is something I've always wanted to do. [ Like a heroine in a fantasy tale, except way more real. ] It's actually helped me get over a lot of my own insecurities and stuff. I've got a long way to go before I'm kicking in doors and busting out the guns, but saving someone's life makes it worth it.

If it makes you feel better, I can be a pretty big chickenwuss at times, too. [Not really the term he'd normally use for it--he likes to opt for words that make him sound a little more dignified, but...well, he's trying to reassure her, here. He can call himself a chickenwuss.] Fighting and everything can be scary, especially when you're just starting out, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. You get better about it as time goes on.
[Not exactly the most inspirational advice ever, but hey, it's generally the truth. And he kind of likes how honest she is about it all.]
And I think those are great reasons for getting into it. It's really noble of you, you know, facing your fears for the sake of other people.
[He's totally nodding in approval right now.]
