[ Let's be real, no one ever considers Tommy when they do their thing. Anyway, Tommy isn't going to risk it. He turns around when she motions, speaking over his shoulder. Rub away, Kate. ]

This isn't relaxing this is boring. Relaxing is reading or watching TV or something.

[She obliges, squirting some of the lotion in her hand and pressing it against the middle of his back.]

[It's a lighthearted joke and the amusement can be heard in her tone as she starts to rub the sunblock in with both hands. Her fingers run over his shoulder blades, massaging and making sure that the sunscreen is well worked in.]

[ He shoots a frown over his shoulder at her and rolls his eyes. It might be a lighthearted joke but it stings, like every other joke that typifies him as an idiot drop-out. He doesn't appreciate it, and it's not funny. ]

Yeah I read. I read a lot, I just can't afford to buy as many books as I can get through. You know how long it took me to get through the entire Lord of the Rings? Three hours.

[ His back is full of knots, and he rolls his shoulder a little at a spot she presses against. ]

[There are some things Kate likes to think that she knows better than to do. Insulting Tommy's education is one of them. It doesn't matter if he dropped out of high school or not. She's known him long enough to know that he's smarter than he lets on.

Her blue eyes soften with quiet apology. It had been a crack at his ADD tendencies she had been making, nothing more.]

God, that must have ate at Billy when he found out. [She smiles, pressing her fingers and palm harder against his back. She might not have any massaging oil on hand, but the sunscreen seems to be working just as well.] It took him a whole month.

[ This is really nice, actually. Tommy's never had the luxury of having a professional massage, and his only frame of reference is moments like these, where friends are feeling generous. ]

[She continues with the massage, finding the knots and kinks in the muscles and slowly working them loose. She inches a little closer to him, sitting cross-legged with her knees just barely touching his lower back.]
