stillplaying: ([interest] reading between the lines)

[She never imagined that. Albeit, she had had other things on her mind the last time she had been this close to the ocean. That time in District 4 had been the closest thing to a vacation that she and Peeta had during the entire Victory Tour. To wonder if there was anything past the shores of Panem had been a mote point.

She feels much the same right now. Does it really matter what's across the water when they're trapped here in this game? But her lips do quirk into a brief grin at the thought of another pack of idiots across the water. That, as much, sounds fitting.

Still, it's not what she questions him on when she tilts her head up to look at him.]
Magic?

Wonderland is magic.

[He says it so easily that it's clear it's an answer he doesn't have a problem with. He comes from a world of magic into a world without. He knows the difference between the two and this place definitely is a magical world.]

I'm guessing you're from a more mundane world. Some have more magic than others. In this world, magic exists.

[His guess is right. Compared to what she's observed here so far, Panem is indeed so very mundane. That look of confusion remains on her face as she stares up at the man, attempting to piece together his words. But when it comes down to it, he still hasn't exactly explained what he means by magic. In her eyes, everything that's happened so far can easily be explained by technology.]

[Bigby can see that she's still confused. Hell, even mundies know about magic. Where was this girl from that even the mention of something from the storybooks doesn't create even some look of understanding.]

What I mean is that Wonderland works on its own set of rules. It will be different than the world your used to. Fantastic things are the norm here, it seems. So anything could be out there or nothing at all. Neither would really surprise me.

[The Panem Katniss had grown up in had been a Panem with little hope. With a government that attempted to suppress every freedom. Books were something used in school. Meant to preserve the knowledge and doctrine the Capitol wanted the Districts to know. And only what the Capitol allowed. Sure, there were books like her father's plant book. Books once again meant to preserve knowledge of a sort.

Stories snuck in sometimes. In the songs and mountain airs of District 12. Maybe something similar in the other Districts. But nothing she had been told was anything like this.

Still, she could think of something fantastic. Something that makes her frown and her eyes grow hollow.]

There could be muttations here.
sheriffwolf: (thinking)

[personal profile] sheriffwolf 2014-07-19 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Bigby raises and eyebrow when she says the word "muttation". He's never heard of such a creature and it makes him curious, especially with the emphasis on the word "mutt".]

What's a muttation? Some sort of monster?
stillplaying: ([serious] drowning in memories)

[personal profile] stillplaying 2014-07-23 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
[A monster sums up the description well enough. Though... not everything to come from the muttations are monstrous. The mockingjays can be rather beautiful to listen to at times even if they are the result of jabberjay muttations mating with the mockingbirds in the field.

But the rest?]

Something created. Usually to harm.
sheriffwolf: (huff and puff)

[personal profile] sheriffwolf 2014-07-23 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Bigby doesn't like the sound of her voice. She's too sad... maybe a touch of fear in her words. He's used to having those words directed at him, not some other nightmare. Still, he sort of knows what she's talking about. He's tasted the Adversaries forces before and they were created, not living things, made for harm.]

Ah, we have something similar. Tasted horrible but it was the only way I could tell the difference. But that was a long time ago. I hope for all of us that whatever is across this ocean is not part of the Adversary's troops.
stillplaying: ([confusion] doesn't get it)

[personal profile] stillplaying 2014-07-27 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[She looks up at him, confusion clear on her face. Only part of what he said was actually understandable. That they have something similar to muttations, even if he had been unfamiliar with the word muttation. But that they tasted horrible?

For all she understands that sometimes, you have no choice in what you hunt or what you eat, she can't ever imagine eating a muttation. The idea is just repulsing.]

Who?
sheriffwolf: (Smoke)

[personal profile] sheriffwolf 2014-08-11 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The Adversary. It's a long story.

[Incredibly long. One that he was reminded of daily considering the threat that the Adversary could still cross over to the Mundane World. It was a threat on a long list of things Bigby had to protect Fabletown from.]

Basically, it's the bad guy, the ultimate evil villain. He chased us from the Homelands and we ended up in the Mundane World. Like I said, it's a long story.
