[She gives him an amused look at that, not at all deterred by his grumpy reaction. If anything, it made her want to do it again.]

I'm not sure magic can be considered easy at all, but I've never tried it, personally. But for what it's worth, what you get out of them seems real enough for what you need them to be. There's nothing wrong with using the tools available to you when the situation requires it. Sometimes you aren't given the luxury of having the time to figure out how something works.

[ James sighs. He knows, she’s probably right, but it still gives him the heebies. ]

But here we have the time. And until we figure it out, I’m more comfortable with my stuff that I brought with me.

She glances down at him assessingly for a moment. "Which is pretty much only what you were wearing when you got here, isn't it? That's not going to last you as long as you'd like, James."

She paused for a moment, wondering if there was a solution to this. "What if there was someone who might be able to explain it better for you?"

Who? Tony can’t explain it. And he hates magic more than I do.

[ Point to James. ]

All of us have a healthy distrust of it, it's true. But then again, the only kind we've had experience with is Loki's and it left a bad taste in all our mouths.

[Her wry tone states that even tactfully worded, that's a huge understatement.]

But there's another group here more familiar with it. They're from another timestream of our world, just like you are, they call themselves the Young Avengers. One of them's even a Hawkeye. [Because apparently that title gets passed around to a great number of people, she's learning.] But there's a magic user among them. His name is Billy. He might be able to help you make sense of it.

I've met Billy.

[ He hadn't known the guy was a magic user, though. That didn't make sense. ]

I want to know where the stuff is coming from, that's all.

I'm not sure magic ever has much of an answer for that, but maybe he can help enlighten you a bit? Why don't you ask him next time you see him?

Everything follows a logical discourse. It’s just… physics we don’t understand yet. That’s all.

[ He read that somewhere. Be proud of him. ]

I’ll see if I can track him down or something.

[ She is. She's also subduing the urge to smile, because he sounds so serious about it. He has moments he's astonishingly like Steve. She can't help but find it amusing. ]

Maybe it is. Or maybe it just works differently in different worlds. I certainly can't explain how people who are fictional characters in our world are perfectly real in ours either, but here we all are.

[ He can sense you’re amused, Mom. He’s not funny! He’s a soldier, okay? WHY DON’T YOU BELIEVE HIM? ]

The multiverse can’t be that different from everywhere else, can it? I know this place touches other places, but…

[ He groans. ]

It’s all confusing.

[ She totally believes him. She just happens to believe being one doesn't cancel out the other. Just ask his dad. ]

Apparently it can. There are people and... creatures here that as far as I know, don't exist in our world, except for in fairy tales. Then again, I thought the same thing about Norse gods once, so who knows what we have hiding out of sight?

[ He looks up at her. ]

Creatures?

[ That specific wording caught his attention. ]

Not people, exactly.

[ She hedges a moment, because how do you explain things like the supernatural without sounding crazy? She's beginning to think you can't. ]

Apparently we've got angels and demons and vampires and werewolves.

[ And lions and tigers and bears oh my. ]

[ He blinks up at her and then shakes his head. ]

You’re pulling my leg, right?

[ Because those things don’t exist, right? ]

[ She holds up her hands as if to say, no pulling here. ]

I was skeptical at first as well, but no, apparently they're real. And here. Most of them seem... friendly might be stretching things but at least not an outright threat.

How do you even fight a threat...

[ He stops, remembering something. ]

That would explain some of the classes I saw.

Which classes?

[ She's a little curious, because she's been poking her nose into some of those as well, has even considering showing up for a few. ]

The ones about lore, mostly. I don't think it would be that big of a deal, but if there's things like that, it'd make more sense.

[ Because that's the only reason he can see for classes like that. ]

There are. And I might have to check out a few of them myself. There's a group here that call themselves hunters, they seem to know quite a bit about it as well.
