He recognizes that name. "I know who you're talking about. We've talked once or twice."

He takes a sip of his beer. "I was also tired of hamburgers that weekend, but that's because that's what Cas was giving me on his fly-bys to make sure I ate."

Castiel's literal fly-bys.

"Most people do," she adds wryly, not at all surprised that Steve's making himself known here. He's rather hard to miss.

"Cas? The angel?" she asks, because she's slowly meeting people here too, or at least learning about the people trapped here with them.

He nods. "Yep. He doesn't remember the first time we met, as he's left and come back since then, but we've seen more of each other after his return. And me needing to tell him who I was all over again."

"Of course, given that weekend with multiple Dean Winchesters running around, that first Castiel might have been a different one entirely," he muses.

"Wait, this place can do multiples as well?" That revelation has her looking a little startled, because it's the first time she's heard mention of that. "Of the same person?"

Ed bobs his head; not quite yes, not quite no. "That weekend it did. We got back the previous Dean, and he actually remembered being here before."

His gaze goes a little distant as he remembers Dean inadvertently announcing Ellen and Jo's deaths. "We only talked for a couple of minutes, since we weren't actually friends. I just filled him in on a couple of things and pointed him in the general direction of his brother."

She hasn't met Dean yet, so that doesn't mean a whole lot to her just yet, but she absorbs the information as note of something out of the ordinary all the same. "Was it an event? Or just a strange coincidence?"

"Red Queen had a lizard build stuff all over that did things like deage people, swap what set of parts they had, whatever. Then threw a party over a weekend to apologize for the mess and brought in guests from all over. Also took down the mirrors so our Mirrors could cross without swapping us over."

Ed shifts in his seat a bit. "Saw a couple of people from home that got brought here for it."

"That sounds..." Like a mess, to be honest. "...chaotic. But the mirrors were here on this side? With all the rest of you?"

The mirror side was something she was still trying to dig into as much information she could, since there didn't seem like a lot of reliable sources to get confirmed information on them.

Ed nods. "Yeah. It was one of the special cases I mentioned where we could all be on the same side."

Now he winces a bit. "A friend of home actually ran into mine before I even saw her. Thankfully, he didn't actually do anything to her. Although I did have to tell her not to go looking for him again when she decided she wanted to hit him with a wrench for something he did I made the mistake of mentioning."

"Your double sounds like a real charmer," she drawls in wry amusement, shaking her head.

Ed frowns. "He made my little brother cry. And triggered a traumatic memory while he was at it. So if he pisses you off, feel free to beat the crap out of him. Just make sure he isn't me first. His own automail is swapped around from mine."

She tilts her head and makes note of that for a moment. "The other arm, you mean?" she asks, committing that to memory. "I'll remember that."

"Yeah. And," he leans down and knocks where the automail on his leg starts. "Opposite side down here as well. I, uh, really did a number on myself as a kid."

She arches an eyebrow at that, looking a little surprised. "You really must have. It happened when you were a child?"

He gives her a cagey grin. "Eleven-year-olds aren't the best decision-makers."

She gives a quiet huff at that. "I suppose it depends on the eleven year old." Not that she'd had the freedom to make her own decisions. She arches an eyebrow at him. "Dare I ask what happened?"

"The arm went towards saving my brother's ass, the leg went to the same thing that caused me to need to save said little brother." Yeah, not going into specifics since those involve trying to bring back his mother from the dead.

"I've heard you speak of your brother, so I'm assuming it worked?" She asks it with careful sympathy - not pity. That's a sentiment that's rarely appreciated and often not required.

Ed nods before taking a sip of beer. "Yeah, he's fine. Still all in one piece."

[widows_kiss]

She dips her head in a nod, a faint smile playing about the corner of her lips. "Good. I'm glad for that, at least. He's younger than you, right?"

"Yeah. He's four years younger." Not bringing up what led to that much age difference instead of the original one year.
