Don't let her fool you, Sammy. She also has lots of downtime when she's waiting for samples to... do whatever they do. We mostly play poker. Or whatever other card games we can remember the rules to.

That sounds more like it. Didn't know you had any scientific experience anyway. I'm just worried about her. About everything. I don't know what happened to Five and I thought Van Ark was going to get Maxine and someone... someone told him, Simon. He knew Maxine would be there.

[ Simon reaches out and ruffles Sam's hair lightly,trying to be optimistic about it. ]

Maybe not. Don't go jumping to assumptions, Sammy. Maybe he just... has our comms transmission bugged or something, I don't know. That guy's been three steps ahead of us for longer than even Five's been around. And if he was in any way responsible for the bloody zoms, then we have no idea what kind of resources he might have that we don't.

Besides, we're here now. And time's apparently frozen back home anyway, if people here are to be believed. So Maxine's perfectly fine and it's not like we can do anything about it from here. Not until we can find out if we can get her brought here, anyway. Try to enjoy the moment instead.

[Sam gives a weak smile at that, which fades into something near misery.]

We know there's a traitor though, Simon. The Major and Janine... stuff we had set up that we never broadcast that he knew and I...

[He shakes his head and takes a stubborn spoonful of ice-cream.]

Wish we could bring everyone here.

[ Simon frowns for a moment, looking troubled, then he shakes his head, reaching out and punching Sam lightly in the shoulder. ]

Don't be so down, Sammy. We might figure out a way yet. It's gotta be possible. We're here, right? Don't fret. It's too beautiful a day to waste worrying. We're on a beach. There's even pretty girls. Try to have fun.

[ Chiding him with a grin, Simon abruptly dunked him under the next wave that hit them both a moment later. ]

Pretty girls. Pretty boys. Better weather than home at least.

[Sam gave a small smile and then shrieked when Simon dunked him again, coming up glaring.]

You are such an arse Three.

Yes, and? You're certainly not going to curb that, you know.

[ Simon smirks and swims closer, a plotting expression on his face. ]

Pretty boys too though, yes. Why, you been eyeing some of them, Sammy?

I can try and hope one day it'll get through your skull.

[Sam looks at him warily. Damn, maybe he shouldn't have said that. He's not embarrassed that he finds men attractive but he doesn't usually announce it.]

[ Simon splashed a handful of water in his direction with a grin. ]

Didn't think you were. It's a good place to eye them, at least. Plenty to see.

[ He splashes back. Retaliation has to happen.]

Well, I'd like that more when you can go a week or two without getting me lost. How's that?

[ He can't help but tease Sam, because the irony of the fact that the guy that gives them all directions can't tell his left from his right with never be lost on him. ]

Plus, now that you're shirtless and wet, it gives them all plenty to eye in return.

[He's not quite as angry as he had been but Nadia is still not his favourite person.

At Simon's words he glances down at himself and immediately ducks down beneath the water.]

[ Simon just laughs and rolls his eyes as he wades over and hauls him back up again. ]
