☾ nightfury at the gates (open)
Who: Toothless and you.
Where: Outside the mansion, pretty much anywhere.
When: 6/23
Rating: This is a kid's movie! (G. I'll update if it changes!)
Summary: Toothless arrives back at the mansion without any memory of it. ...'Arrives' is probably oversimplifying it. 'Crashes' is more accurate.
The Story:
It's funny, but Toothless doesn't remember hedges in Berk. He doesn't even know what a hedge is, in fact, but the shape in front of him strikes him as Viking-made. Plants don't actually grow like that, do they? Is he on some weird new island where the plants are different?
All he remembers is flying — and then not flying.
Speaking of which, with a quiet cry of alarm, the Nightfury lurches to his feet. Hiccup! Was he thrown clear? Where is he? The area around him is large, and he can also smell — is that a beach, maybe beyond the treeline? For a moment, he stands unnaturally still, trying to pinpoint the sound of his best friend's voice. But all he hears are unfamiliar voices, and the rustling of wind through trees. It only makes the thrill of horror in his chest greater, and Toothless immediately sets off at a run.
Or he tries to, at least.
His thoughts being as distracted as they are, his mad dash is foiled by the fish pond being in the way. The Nightfury plunges, unintentionally, underneath the surface, and comes up with wide green eyes, scrambling for the shore amidst the frantic movements of fish beneath him. Such is the gravity of the situation that the fish don't even factor into his mind, just yet. He comes back up on land and this time sets off at a much more successful run, soaking wet and wings tucked tight to his body for greater speed.
Every once in a while, he lets out a loud, long, distressed sounding call — sort of the dragon version of Hey! Where are you? With the speed of his movements, hopefully no one will find themselves in his way.
[ooc: Both prose and action spam are fine by me.]

The little cat is running with him?
What's going on, here?
Why is all the wildlife on this island so strange? First a deer that smells like a viking, and now this.
Too curious not to, Toothless finally skids to a halt, green eyes wide as he takes in the creature. Nothing in his body posture is all that threatening, and not even his tail is lashing as he sniffs at the air.

She stops when he does, but a good few yards ahead of him, looking warily back at him. A dragon would prove a real challenge in a fight, but this one doesn't seem aggressive. He seems intelligent, even. She tilts her head and sniffs as well. He smells vaguely like people as well--maybe he's spent time with them, or lives with them? That might explain his apparent intelligence.
She can't speak, but she mrrs questioningly.

Perhaps this is a cat from... a very strange island. This one is a very strange island. Is it from here? Or is it stranded like him?
Toothless makes a quiet noise back, trying to relay calm through an even rumble. Sort of how he would greet a strange dragon, if he'd found one in this situation instead of a bizarre cat-thing that stretches his knowledge of all cat-things.

She gives him a long look, then stretches her front legs and licks a paw in a feline show of calmness as well. There's a lot of complex ideas she needs to express to him if he's going to have a hope of understanding where he is and what's happening. Lying Cat can't exactly do that, though there is that handy pamphlet back in the mansion. Maybe he can read.
She swishes her tail and looks over in the direction of the mansion, ears twitching forward. People usually live in buildings, so maybe the dragon will recognize the mansion as somewhere people would be. She makes a small, growly sound that manages to be both frustrated and consoling--she knows how the dragon is feeling, at least. Lost, confused, overwhelmed.

Toothless lays forward on his stomach, sliding closer and sniffing at Lying Cat's scent to get it firmly down to memory. And also to seem less threatening. He doesn't exactly look bloodthirsty when he's stretched out and resembling, well, a cat rolling around on their back.
Hiccup's made the harness to last, and so it doesn't look at all strained as he rumbles and tries to communicate his unwillingness to harm the creature. Only for defense, in a place like this. He doesn't want to anger the natives if he can help it, not without his wings.

She mrrs to get his attention and then inclines her head toward the mansion. That's where the answers are. She just needs to figure out how to explain it all.

Did you want to go there, strange kitty?

Maybe not all of this place is so confusing.
Trilling back at her, he begins to trot after her — and then slows to walk alongside her, as he catches up. He's content to go where she'll lead him, eyes wide as he takes it all in.

She picks up the pace just a little as they approach the mansion. She's just glad she's figured out how to open the front doors.
no subject
He's not sure of size, exactly, but he knows that that must mean a huge forest.
As they approach the doors, Toothless considers them almost warily. They're a bit smaller than the doors he's used to; they almost look like some of the old dragon pens, on a smaller scale, back when dragons were captives in Berk.

She pauses at the entrance, noticing the dragon's hesitation. Of course he wouldn't like being indoors--he's a giant flying lizard. It's like trying to cage a bird. Still, she knows from experience that most of the doors in here are cooperative and all of the windows are breakable, so escape isn't that difficult.
She pads up to the doors and then stands up on her hind legs with one paw bracing against the door and the other on the knob. She hooks her claws around the knob and then does a sort of hop for leverage, turning the knob rather forcefully. Then it's just a matter of leaning on the door to open it. She looks back at the dragon with her whiskers turned out in a cat's smug grin.
no subject
Toothless gives a soft rumble when the door opens all the way, head cocked to the side and eyes wide. It's quite a feat. He can't help but be impressed and intrigued. Perhaps he'll be able to figure out those knobs, too.
But he's visibly distracted, because Hiccup is somewhere out here and he really should get back to looking for him. Glancing out at the forest, he makes a lonely sort of second rumble. He hopes his best friend is all right...
no subject
She tilts her head when he looks back at the forest. He clearly doesn't want to go inside, so she figures she shouldn't force him. She makes a mrrt sound, as if to say "wait here"--then she darts indoors, finds the display that has all the pamphlets, grabs one and then runs out back with the paper between her teeth. She stops before Toothless and holds it out to him. Hopefully he can read, but if not, well--someone will be willing to explain it, she's sure.
no subject
Otherwise the pamphlet won't last a moment. Although it will be covered in a thin sheen of dragon saliva that will be impossible to wash off. Hiccup is going to be thrilled, when they do meet up.
He trills quietly at the creature in thanks, genuinely pleased to have made a friend who isn't a viking, before turning and bounding back toward the trees again. Maybe if he listens extra hard, he'll hear Hiccup this time.
