Summary: Billy's magic is gone and he's not taking it overly well. Also there's an adorable puppy that found a new home.
The Story:

From the moment Billy woke up he noticed everything was wrong. Everything was dull, like the color had seeped out of everything, and the power the ran through his veins, the magic he could always feel like a low hum in his head was gone. He took a deep breath and tried not to panic, chaos magic and panic didn't go together and he'd learned a long time ago panic never did any good. Except he never felt like a piece of himself had been torn from himself, not even when his powers had been dampened when he had been a prisoner in the cube and then the negative zone. He couldn't access it but he could always feel it.

Nothing. Not even the slightest flicker of blue.

Shit. Ok, he could handle this. He just needed to find Tommy or Kate, maybe they knew what was going on.

Getting dressed he left his room in search of someone who could tell him what was going on...and why a herd of puppies just ran by him.

Billy found himself outside walking the grounds. He felt better out here then inside the mansion, like the walls where caving in on him and he couldn't do anything to stop it.

He kept looking over his shoulder every few steps, sure he heard something behind him. The third time it happened he turned fully to find a brown and white puppy bounding out if the bushes and over to him barking excitedly.

Billy couldn't help but laugh and squat down letting the pup lick his face and jump around his excitedly. Scooping him up he continued his aimless walking letting the dog down to run about his feet.

Whatever you want. Billy will be out and about, probably with a puppy tagging along. You can run into him wherever you'd like. Maybe help him come up with a name for the dog.

Peter nodded his head. "Not that it really makes much of a difference but yeah, I don't have my magic. Even if I had my wand nothing would work. I... I really hope this isn't permanent."

The loss of his wand still frustrated him and now his magic was completely gone. He wasn't the best wizard but Merlin's Beard, at least he could do some magic, enough to not have Hogwarts declare him a Squib. Now he didn't even have that. What was he without his magic?

"Me too," Billy said sympathizing. He knows what Peter is probably feeling, like a part of himself is just gone now.

Peter didn't really want to think about being a muggle for the rest of his stay. It scared him too much. He wasn't the best wizard, but he could manage a decent spell when needed, not to mention the most powerful spell he had learned. It was a sense of pride that he had become an illegal animagus. Not everyone could do that sort of transfiguration, but he had. Take that, Hogwarts Professors!

"I see a puppy followed you home," Peter said, quickly changing the subject. "What's his name?"

Billy grinned looking down at the dog. "I haven't named him yet, he reminds me of my boyfriend, back home, but I don't want to name him Teddy."

If Billy was worried about putting himself to Peter he didn't show it. He'd never hidden who he was and he wasn't about to start now.

Peter was startled when Billy said "boyfriend". It's not that he doesn't know there are blokes out there who fancy other blokes but no one readily admits to that. Not if you want to avoid being called a poofter and have your life turn into a living hell.

"I'm sorry, but did you say... your boyfriend?" Peter asks curiously. "You mean your best mate?"

"No, I mean boyfriend," Billy told him. If Peter had a problem with it then it was better to know now before their friendship went any further. "His name is Teddy, we've been together almost four years now."

"Blimey."

Peter was a bit stunned. He doesn't know anyone who has been in a relationship for a year let alone four, and to think that you could have that with another bloke is... well, oddly comforting.

"You must miss him, then," he said with a smile. "If I was dating anyone for years I figure I'd miss them if they weren't here."

"Terribly," Billy said frowning, "this is the longest we've been apart, even if technically I'm not gone for him."

Peter felt bad for Billy and reached over to touch his shoulder. "I'm sure he's all right," he said. "And you wouldn't want him here, right? I mean, Wonderland isn't the best place to show up, not really."

He feels a bit out of practice and awkward. Peter really isn't the comforting type. James was better at this and Remus, really. He just sort of repeated platitudes he'd heard a bunch of times before.

"Don't worry. It will be ok," he found himself saying although he wasn't really sure what all of that meant.

Billy managed a smile for Peter. "I know, I wouldn't wish him here for anything. Even if I do miss him. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, just being picked up from their life for no reason and being thrown into a world they know nothing about."

"It definitely requires getting used to," Peter nodded his head but in a way, he didn't mind being here. He had James and that was more than enough for him. Of course, if he had been all alone he might feel similar to Billy.

"Cheer up, mate," Peter said, putting on a happy grin. "Maybe your stay won't be for long and you'll get to head home! In the meantime, there are lots of people here to make friends with."

"Like you?" Billy asked smiling at him. It was true, if he couldn't get home at least he had Tommy and Kate here and Peter was turning out to be a good friend.

Peter was a bit surprised, mostly because he didn't have friends outside of James, Remus and Sirius. It was sort of nice, especially since Billy would have fit right in at Hogwarts among the Marauders. He grins brightly and nods his head.

"Sure, mate. We're friends and one of my only ones besides James. I'm sure there are loads of other people that you'll find to be friends with, too. So, yeah, it isn't all bad here."

"Yeah, Billy agreed, smiling at Peter. "I guess of all the places too be stuck this isn't so bad."

Peter nodded his head, happily distracted from the loss of his magic by making a new friend.

"Are you going to name your pup after your boyfriend then?" Peter asked, trying to ignore the fact that it still felt a little weird talking to a bloke about his boyfriend.

"I don't know," Billy laughed thinking of what Teddy's reaction would be. "He'd probably never let me live that down if I did." Neither would Tommy or Kate for that matter.

"But maybe I'll name him Rufus, that's a good dog name. And it's Teddy's middle name."

"Rufus. That's a good dog's name," Peter said before quickly adding. "Not that I'm calling your boyfriend a dog, because I'm not. It's just... its a good name."

Peter kneels down and offers his hand out to the pup. "Hullo there, Rufus. Lovely to meet you."

Billy laughed. "I didn't think you were, besides he's more of a teddy bear then a dog."

Peter tried to imagine a large teddy bear hugging Billy and it was rather silly. Still, it sounded nice to have someone, although he didn't let himself wonder too much about it. Such thoughts were better left for later when he was alone.

"Still, your dog is sweet. At least that's one good thing to come out of today."
