☾ the invasion of the cute and tiny
Who: Toothless and you.
Where: Inside, outside, anywhere and everywhere.
When: Anytime during the Puppy event.
Rating: G for now.
Summary: Puppies? What are puppies? Why are they everywhere? Oh no, why are they so fuzzy?
The Story:
Toothless' stay in Wonderland had been a short one, before the place had begun to change on him. He'd been adjusting well with Hiccup at his side, no longer swarmed with anxiety, and, though he tried to stay with his friend to protect him, sometimes he went off on his own for a walk or two. Never for very long, but long enough to get more of the mansion and its grounds into his memory. The woods intrigue him, but he hasn't tried to fully explore them. Not yet, anyway.
And then, one morning, he wakes up with small fuzzy things all over him.
The Nightfury's smelled their kind before, at other viking villages, but older and louder. These are small, quiet and full of drool, seemingly determined to chew on him and his harness. At first, he's annoyed by it.
But then, after a few hours of adjustment, and a restless nap, the dragon realizes that what he's discovered is an endless fountain of other creatures to play with. Creatures who don't expect him to talk or communicate, only chase them and hold still while they climb all over him.
He notices almost nothing else but the puppies, wandering all over the mansion with a small entourage at his feet as the puppies try to figure out what kind of strange dog he is. Every so often, he lays down and rolls around with them, and chases one or two around, until they all wear each other down and take a nap. And then, upon waking, the dance begins again.
Toothless is more or less entirely occupied, and might have to be reminded to do more than eat and sleep. He certainly doesn't really notice any other changes that come with the puppies in question.

"Where are you going?" He asks, looking at the Night Fury before his gaze falls to all the puppies on the floor dancing around them, all wanting back up on their jungle gym. Then, of course, he spots the ones that have managed to remain on Toothless and he snorts, reaching over to scratch them behind the ears (and keep them from slipping off).

A slightly louder rumble comes out of him when he feels something attach itself to his tail. He lifts it up slightly to bring it closer to he and Hiccup — a terrier puppy has locked its jaws around the leather, fake fin.

"Ahhhh, no no no, little guy!" Trying not to fly off the handle with panic, Hiccup waves his arms a little like that might get the dog to drop the leather fin. But of course it doesn't work, and Hiccup comes back to his senses, racing toward Toothless' tail. His hands immediately go around the puppy and he tries to gently tug him off.
But the little bugger is stubborn and likes this new chew toy.
"Come on!" Hiccup urges, tugging the puppy some more while also trying to keep the tailfin from ripping any. "Drop it! Drop it! You're not very disciplined, are you?" A lot like baby dragons. Huffing in frustration, he shifts the puppy to be held in one arm, and his free hand then goes to the tailfin, trying to wrench it free of the puppy's surprisingly strong grip. "Just let go, I'll find you another chew toy! A better one!"
Obviously trying to bribe a puppy is going to work.

Except terriers have strong jaws perfect for tug-of-war, and the puppy just growls instead of letting go.
He lets out a quiet series of snorts and sounds which are an awful lot like laughter, watching the proceedings keenly. Toothless knows how he would handle a Terrible Terror if it grabbed his tail, but this little creature? It's just a little too fragile for him to deal with.

He casts a glance back at Toothless, but doesn't actually make any move to hand the task over to the dragon. Instead, he keeps tugging on the puppy, as hard as he can while still being gentle enough not to rip out any of it's teeth, rip the tailfin, or just hurt anybody in general.
"Come on little guy, that can't even taste good. Why are you so stubborn?" Gods, is he ever glad Toothless is the only one here witnessing this. No doubt anyone would love to tell absolutely everyone the story of the viking who couldn't pull a puppy off of its chewtoy. "Can I bribe you with anything? Fish? Belly scratches? Something?"

Then again, Terrible Terrors don't seem so bad until they start swarming you.
Toothless shifts something on his harness with one of his back legs, and the fin that the puppy is clinging to extends all the way out. It's now far too big for a terrier to get its jaws around, and Toothless' tail pulls free.
Just don't say he never did anything for you, Hiccup.

"Good thinking," he compliments, a lopsided, awkward smile crossing his face. The little dog now squirming and wiggling in his hands, trying to get free, Hiccup sets it down and, as it runs off, falls back in his crouch to sit down. "I should've thought of that."
But instead he'd been caught up in playing tug-of-war with a puppy. Ah well, you win some, you lose some, right?

Because that's what friends are for.
He stands up and faces the tiny puppy in Hiccup's hands, gently touching his snout to its very wet nose.
It had been an admirable opponent, really. What jaw strength!
