The Story:

When the first person walks into the room they will see that the classroom has been transformed. The lights have been dimmed by someone hanging blue cellophane over the fluorescent lamps and the typical desks are now shifted and moved around the room, covered in exotic, lacey fabric. The chairs are hidden in the corner and large pillows surround the desks creating a warm, plush atmosphere. Ethereal music is drifting lightly through the room and some students are dressed as gypsies while others look more like swamis. There’s a light, fun atmosphere here and everyone whispers, moving from one table to the next, talking to their favorite Fortune Teller.

What will your fortune be? That depends on who your soothsayer ends up being. Perhaps you’ll find a riddle, a prophecy, or just a bit of advice. If you’re really lucky, the dark room and the soft music might lead to something more than just palm reading.

The choice is yours. And with all fortune telling, remember to choose wisely. You never know who in the class might be gifted with the “sight” and their fortunes might just come true.

And have they ever come up blank before? [ he arches an eyebrow. even though he had been jesting before, finnick takes on a serious approach. her booth may be a mere lie, the apple peel curling into a spiral as all apple peels do, but it's a question he finds escaping him before he has any time to twist it around into a slip of flirtation — or something to rile her up even further. ] Everyone's loved. Even if this apple trick doesn't work, it's untrue to think someone can go a lifetime without being loved at all.

Not so much blank? It was more like the peel couldn’t decide what it wanted to be. [And when you’re dealing with teenagers and their love lives, things get messy incredibly quickly. It lent itself to proving the farcical nature of her booth, but it worked out in the end. The peel begins to pool on the table, as she slowly rotates it in her hand.] Everybody is loved by somebody, yes. But true love? Much more rare than you think.

I can imagine so many walk away disappointed, then.

[ love was fickle enough with how unbalanced it can be; one person sometimes not loving enough while the other loves too much. adding truth to it merely complicates an already intricate web of complexities. but the brightness of finnick's smile disappears, leaving his mouth merely curving up, as his gaze drifts to the peels. ]

Don't sugarcoat it. I want to know the truth.

[She's silent for a moment as she finishes up on peeling the apple. It's tedious work, peeling an apple so it ends up in one long string instead of pieces, so she takes a second to stretch her hand.]

Now, let's see what your true love's name starts with. [A small smile finds its way to her face, as she picks up the peel. Traditionally, you're supposed to throw it over your shoulder, but in such a crowded space there's barely any room. Instead, she's taken to standing up and dropping the peel on the table from a great height. It seems to work, so why not? When that's done, the peel has landed in the shape of a capital A. Don't ask me how.]

There you have it.
