(OPEN) ...Dreaming of what could be

Who: Darcy Lewis AND YOU!
Where: All around Storybrooke
When: The duration of the event October 24-28
Rating: Probably up to R possibly for talks of deaths/alcoholism/will update as needed
Summary: Going through the motions of the event along with her Community Advocacy program.

The Story:

October 24th:
Darcy had always been ambitious, having pushed her way through both undergrad and grad school in record times. Always taking on larger course loads than necessary - having learned from the best during her internship with Judge Michael Shurley. You had to work hard to get where you wanted, nothing else as satisfying a reward as seeing the results of your hard work.

And that's exactly what she's doing. Having gotten her Master's in Political Science, she filled what she viewed as a void in Storybrooke - helping those who couldn't help themselves. It wasn't glamorous, but it was necessary, fueled by a passion lit in her a long time ago by someone who now fell into that category. Sure, it was thankless most of the time and called for long hours and dealing with people that didn't want the help - only able to sit back and watch them deteriorate, but someone had to do it.

She lived above the office she'd set up shop in, having help from Kate Bishop Beth. It gave her the opportunity to work around the clock, pushing aside simple pleasures in life like love and a thriving social life in the name of helping others.

October 25th/26th:
It's weird, but there's an almost need over the two day span to do things outside of her norm - reach out to people in a casual setting. Maybe even stop into the diner or bar in a non-professional capacity. Looking to share a laugh or two rather than passing out a pamphlet, picking someone up that needed help, or dropping off a meal.

She might even stop off in the church to sit for a few moments - try and find a sense of peace that had been missing in her life.

October 27th/28th:
The war of memories rages in her mind, only getting worse with each passing hour. She had been so sure of herself - working hard enough to rival Jane. It was something that was almost parallel with what she'd been doing in Wonderland with the coffee shop. Always helping everyone else - putting other people's needs before her own. It had been taken to an extreme here. Rather than deal with it all, she heads off to find a familiar face - a real familiar face. If that fails, she'll settle for a dark corner to sit in and a bottle of something strong to wash away some of the bitterness.

Wonderland can go screw itself.

Blake shifts haplessly in the area he's designated for himself. "Dining table," he says, somewhat decisively, before moving in that direction.

As far as Darcy goes, in Blake's eyes she can do little wrong. Honestly, he wasn't accepting of help when she was offering so she can't and shouldn't blame herself. Unfortunately, it's always harder when there are loved ones involved.

Thomas takes one of the plates from her and narrowly navigates through the maze of furniture to a seat. He wishes he'd had a chance to take a shower before coming here, but since there's no turning back now, he figures they'll just have to deal with the smell of stale booze and who-knows-what.

"Why don't you get an assistant?" It seems like a good answer to the issues she's having. "Or is that— is that more red tape?"

"Always thought you jumpin' through red tape was kinda like your gift to mankind. You oughta give her that gift if she's worth it," he says, oddly mindful of the emotions involved in something like that.

Grabbing up a fork, he begins cutting through the food, taking small bites and feeling grateful. His stomach agrees with a meaningful growl, obvious pleased he's finally gobbling down something better than cookies.

"If she's anything like you, she'll—" He laughs a little. "—she'll have already prepared for that kinda red tape." Darcy was always good at looking ahead, he felt.

"Eh, she'd be sick of my stink quick enough," he reasons, but there isn't even any self-consciousness around Darcy anymore, or anyone really. Blake know she stinks, knows he would wear on anyone's nerves if given enough opportunity, so he can't imagine it's not the absolutely truth.

Feeling like he shouldn't wait for things to get depressing, he shovels a mouthful of food into his mouth and then looks over at Darcy again. "You seein' anyone these days?" If he has the chance, he's almost always willing to turn the tables to talk about someone other than himself. It just so happens in Darcy's case, he has a lot more wiggle room than most. Plus, his interest is warranted, as far as he's concerned.

"Yeah, I hear that a lot," he says, but it's in no way mocking. It seems like most everyone wants to turn in when they're having trouble or stressful times, and usually it's the most immediate relationships that suffer the most. John might be a stinking drunk, but all that time on the police force in Storybrooke allowed him to become something of a decent people watcher.

Silently, Blake noshes on his food and watches Darcy. He can't help but feel incredibly fond, even if he knows she's living every bit the same lie he tells himself all the time. They all need someone, they all want someone, and between the two of them, they're better than anyone at using whatever convenient excuse is nearby and handy to avoid taking too much of a risk.

He runs a hand down his face. "You should make the time. It's good for you to be taken care of." You know, for the record.

Even with the heavy subject matter, Blake has to admit that he feels a hundred time more comfortable in Darcy's company. The food's beginning to pile up, too, so he's feeling a little less empty. Head shaking back and forth, he smiles at her from his seat.

"Run away, huh? Doesn't sound like us," he says. Wasn't there a time where they were certain and able enough to take on the world? Wasn't there a time when nothing anyone could say would deter them from their goals? It had been a life about career paths, a life about helping people, a life about doing more. Sometimes it feels so distant, but at times like this, Thomas has to admit his grasp could almost be long enough to reclaim things if he thought he could hold on tight enough to Darcy in the process.

"If you had the tickets, I'd send you away with someone that's actually good for you. You know I've got more baggage than a plane can carry. Just have to come visit instead."

As much as he'd like to live in a world where something like that works out, Blake doesn't see anything going in his favor for a long time. In fact, he can't remember the last time he felt like he really caught a decent break, and he needs both hands to count the number of people he's disappointed this year alone.

It hurts to hear her words, especially to think back, and Blake's not quite ready for that. When she disappears into the kitchen, he's quick to his feet.

"No one's gonna complain 'bout you bein' you 'cause you're the nicest person in town," he says on his way to the door. Like a coward, Blake Thomas slips out without even saying goodbye. He can't bring her down, not again. He can't let her down, not again. And on the bright side, he didn't wreck the place or steal anything, and he almost finished a whole meal.

If he could give Darcy everything he would, but he's just not capable enough and he knows he'll do nothing but hold her back.

It isn't as if he doesn't want to be the kind of person that sticks around. Blake's desperate for a place and he had that once, he really did. At one time Darcy was just what he needed to feel that much more complete and it wasn't like he lost that. No, it's just better that he stays away because she'll never get what she needs from him.

Turning on his heel, he backs away from Darcy with his hands in the air. When he stumbles, he barely rights himself: determination, in this case, is what's keeping him on his feet.

"—sorry, I'm sorry. You know I can't, you know, Darcy, you know," he says, voice thin and near powerless. He hates that this is his life but he'll never crawl out from under all of this, and hell is he's going to drag her down with him. "Just let me go. I'm sorry. Just let me go, Darcy, please..."
