Wherever I am you'll always be more than just a memory | OPEN
Who: James Potter [
pottershotter] and OPEN
Where: On the grounds
When: 5/22/15, afternoon
Rating: PG?
Summary: James has been feeling a bit moody about things since the last event, so he's off wandering around as a stag.
The Story:
[James' least favorite events are the ones that play with his head, and even worse are the ones that manipulate him into believing he can't trust anyone. He prides himself on his unshakable faith in the ones he loves, so to have that faith shaken so terribly always leaves him feeling a bit sick to his stomach when the event is said and done.
It's more than just that though. There are people missing again, but not just the usual people who seem to flutter in and out of Wonderland ever so often. George and Coach Beiste, two people who had been in Wonderland has long as he has, both managed to vanish in the same week. It's been some time since it happened, since their rooms reverted to their original state and any sign of them disappeared.
Frankly, it's left James a little shocked that he's still here. It's hard not to shake the feeling that he could leave at any moment against his will, and while he does want to go home more than anyone...they have to figure out how to keep their memories in tact first. He has to remember what he's learned in Wonderland, or they will just repeat their mistakes. They'll put their trust in the wrong people all over again.
Then there's the wedding. There's less than a month until the wedding, and while they've been planning on inviting evveryone...many of the people James had wanted present have left Wonderland. It's hard not to worry that he or even Lily could vanish between now and then, and part of him just wants to get the whole thing over with and marry her now, today, while they're both still in Wonderland. But, no. They need to do this right. It's their chance to have the sort of wedding they might never get at home, due to the war.
There's been a lot on his mind since the last event ended, not that he cares to admit it. Instead, he's decided to go for a walk and stretch his stagly legs. He'll be out on the grounds, strutting around and eating grass and interesting flowers, but most importantly he'll be reveling in that slower stag mind where everything seems to stretch forever. As a stag, complex emotions are broken down into something much simpler and almost meditative. He'd much rather sort himself out as a stag than do all this fretting and worrying. Worrying is awful; being a stag is clearly the way to go.
But this stag is unusually friendly, and he's more than willing to come say hello to any curious spectators...and to run far away from anyone who might try to hunt him. Threat of hunters has never stopped him before.]

[There's an implied "Like you did" at the end of that thought, but James doesn't say so. Instead he looks upward and gives it some thought.]
...I think I would. I'd like to see my parents again. Maybe I'd even get to stay long enough to go back to Hogwarts. [There's a nostalgic smile for a moment, but soon it shifts to a frown.] ...I dunno if I'd want concrete proof everyone forgets Wonderland though. That'd be more than a bit unsettling.

I almost prefer that idea. I mean, yes, it'd be strange to see. But if I go right back where I left off, I'll know for months before you remember. Assuming that's how it works. Because it could also be we're from slightly different worlds. I could go back to mine remembering everything and the James there could have never been. Because he isn't quite you. Do you follow me?
no subject
Everything's been the same so far. I think if there was a difference, we'd have picked up on it by now, don't you? Unless the only difference would be that I didn't go to Wonderland...
[That's such a horrible thought though. It would be bad for either of them, because it would mean James would be going home to the same thing. Maybe even Lily too.]
No, it's going to be fine. We're all going to go back to the same world, and we'll all remember everything. Sure, you'll have to wait a bit for us but...we'll get there. And if you remember then so will we.

You don't think I could convince you before you actually remember? There's nothing I could say that'd keep you from sending me to St. Mungo's straight away?
no subject
[Really though, he has no idea how he would react to all of this if he was hearing it for the first time, if he didn't have irrefutable evidence right there.]
...It'd help if we could send one of the books with you.

[Still, it's a thought. They haven't made any headway on the memory magic, so perhaps this is another option.]
...Could write myself a note. "Dearest Sirius, This is all true. Trust me. Signed, Sirius." Very convincing.

[And then it would just start all over again, reading the thing and trying to convince everyone involved it's real. He laughs at Sirius' suggestion though, and nudges his shoulder.]
Very convincing. I know I'd believe a note like that one.

[He thinks himself in circles for a moment, tapping at his lip.]
And of course you'd assume it's you at first. So self-centered.

[Sirius can occasionally out-vain James, which is truly saying something. But that's a good question.]
...I dunno! A bit weird naming him after a book, but if we didn't name him that, would the book change? Seems a bit unfair to deprive him of his name just because he also happens to be in a prophetic book.
no subject
[He does his best not to look bitter.
Anyway.]
I suppose that could be a way to change things. Just name him something else. Something You Know Who can't even consider going after.

[A bit of dark humour, seeing as Voldemort decided it had to be their son and probably never gave lucky Neville a second thought.]
