Goblins, I guess. [Dipper shrugs.] Pretty minor in terms of how much of a hassle they are. Annoying, but dumb, and mostly harmless.

You "guess?" Got a lot of experience with those things?

[ It did just seem annoying, dumb, and mostly harmless, though; the assessment seems fairly accurate. Ellie makes a face as if to say 'sounds about right' and leans against the counter. ]

Did they nab about of your stuff, or am I just the lucky one?

Not these specifically. But I deal with weird stuff all the time back home.

[These can't even show you your worst nightmare and drive you insane when you make eye contact.]

They tried. I outsmarted them.

Not more zombies, right? [ Comes the dry response, because the last thing she wants is for more of her friends to have come from worlds where there are walking dead everywhere. ]

Ha. Guess that says a lot about me. [ She wrinkles her nose at him, but she's still grinning. ] Look at you, outsmarting trolls- wait. Goblins? Is there a difference?

Occasionally zombies. But they're easier to deal with than the ones we got here. [And were entirely Dipper's fault because he just had to read the Latin in his journal to prove a point.]

Probably to them. [He shrugs.] But then again, they probably have their own troll or goblin language where they're called something entirely different.

[backpacking]

I didn't know there were... "easy to deal with" zombies.

[ Wish that was the garden variety back in her world. ]

Oh, yeah... guess so. It's not like they spoken fluent English. [ beat ] But they sorta seemed to understand, didn't they? Maybe they know more than we're giving them credit for.

Relatively easy. I mean, it was pretty bad for a while until we learned three part harmony would make their heads explode.

[The zombies that showed up in Wonderland were much, much worse.]

On the other hand, reverse psychology was really effective. Not the mark of an intelligent being.

[backpacking]

[ Okay, that makes her laugh. ]

You're fucking with me. [ But he seems serious, so she just snickers, shaking her head. ] Man. The guy I was with wanted to be a singer; he'd probably die if he heard that.

[ Because now she's imagining Joel singing the Infected to death with that low, Texan drawl, and it's... frankly, hilarious. ]

True. [ She guesses, with limited psychology knowledge. ] And they'll disappear soon enough, right? Like all the other stuff we get in here.

[Dipper shakes his head.] Nope. My sister was thrilled. She'd been trying to get us to do karaoke all night. We also had a cure for the bite.

Seems like a pretty safe bet. Just another annoyance Wonderland is putting us through.

[backpacking]

You did?

[ That has her breath catching, smile fading. A cure.

Suddenly, she finds that her arm is very itchy. ]

What was it?

It involved a lot of formaldehyde and cinnamon. I... don't know if it would work for zombies from other worlds.

[He couldn't try it during the event. Shockingly, he hadn't thought to bring his formaldehyde.]

[ She knows it probably wouldn't work, and that she won't remember it once she gets back home, anyway, but Ellie still makes a mental note, nodding lightly. ]

Hey, it's worth a try, right? [ She mutters. ] Anything is, at this point.

Definitely worth a try. [Besides the whole... not being able to remember things. He gives her a sidelong look.]

...you're not bitten, right? [He's pretty sure she would have turned by now if she were, but on the other hand, he doesn't know how long zombie bites take in her world.]

[backpacking]

[ She gets quiet, which is obviously telling in itself, shifting her weight and absent-mindedly running her tongue over her lips. ]

It's-... complicated. [ Ellie looks fairly uncomfortable and crosses her arms. ] If I tell you about it, can you keep it a secret? Not a lot of people here know.

[ Just Michonne, maybe Simon and Jo, but no one else. ]

[Dipper nods and mimes sealing his lips. He's good at keeping secrets... though he might tell Mabel. She doesn't count.]

[backpacking]

[ Ellie hesitates, as if she's changed her mind, but... well, she's acted pretty Fishy already, so. Gingerly, she yanks up her sleeve, revealing the old bite marks on her forearm. ]

Technically? Yeah, I'm Infected. [ Hurriedly, she pulls the sleeve back down again. ] But... I'm immune. Somehow. The infection gets you in a few hours, but this is... really old. It was old before I showed up here. As far as I know, I'm the only one.

[krmvgivv]

Wow, that's... cool. [Dipper frowns thoughtfully.] Were you only bitten the one time? Like could it have been a fluke?

[backpacking]

[ Not the reaction she was expecting. Ellie seems wary, almost reluctant to talk more about it, but she does, slowly. ]

... Uh... yeah, just one time. I guess it could've been just one, weird thing, but it's never happened to anybody else. Not that I've ever heard of.

[ And then she adds: ] I'm definitely Infected, though, it's in my system. [ Or whatever. ] Scanners picked it up, once.

[krmvgivv]

So what, that means if you bit someone, they might turn into a zombie? [He raises his hands.] Not that I'm worried. I mean, you don't seem like the kind of person who randomly bites people. But is that what would happen?

[backpacking]

[ Well, that's. A question. ]

Um... I don't know. [ Honestly, how has that never come up? ] I don't think so?

[ Right, she'd bitten David and pretended that he could turn to save her own life. Though he'd only lived a little bit after that, he didn't seem to show any of the signs.

Finally, she shakes her head. ]

Gonna say 'no,' but not with a lot of confidence.

Let's... not experiment on that one. [Dipper is all for pursuit of education, but zombies are not to be messed around with.]

We could definitely try my cure, but I don't know how we could figure out if it worked or not. I mean, you don't have any zombie symptoms anyway, so that wouldn't help.

[backpacking]

Definitely not.

[ She won't even joke about it, really. Not when she's seen first hand the effects of a bite, a person transforming. What happens after. ]

We could if we could get something like a brain scanner. Back home, the police have these things... I don't know what they are, but they beep and can tell if you're Infected. Maybe I could take your cure then... get one of those? Somehow?

[krmvgivv]

We'd probably have to go to the Vendors for something like that. Unless we could get someone to make it.

[backpacking]

I don't know anybody here who could make something like that.

[ But, that's not saying that there isn't someone, of course. ]

Do you really think the vendors could do it, though?

Probably. But... [He holds up his hands.] I don't know if it's worth a memory.
