Rating: PG-13 (or higher depending how rowdy you guys get)
Summary: IO, SATURNALIA! The party has arrived and it is here to stay for 72 hours straight of good food, gambling, dancing, drinking, singing, and so on and so forth!
The Story:

A few days into Ewaymas, on December 15th, everyone will wake up to a scroll outside their door. This scroll is an invitation to a Saturnalia celebration in two days, and everyone is welcome! If asked for clothing for the party, the closets will provide synthesis – brightly colored Roman robes – for the occasion, but the dress code is mostly just colorful and fun, if you choose to abide by it.

Starting on the 17th there will be a lavish feast in the ballroom, and food and drink are never in short supply. Drunkenness is encouraged, but there will be non-alcoholic beverages as well. There will be tables set up for gambling and dice games, music from a wide variety of worlds (specifically to encourage loud singing along and dancing all night - some are holiday remixes but others aren't), and areas for dancing and playing other games. The decorations are all in a rainbow of bright colors like the synthesis, with suns hanging up and candles floating in the air. Laurels and pileus will be available at the party for everyone to wear on their heads.

It's the kind of party that will get increasingly louder and rowdier...and it literally won't end for three whole days. Those prone to gluttony, greed, or even just escapism will find themselves not wanting to leave the party at all. There's always something to do and you can always just pass out of the floor when you're tired, right? Right! No one knows how to party like the Romans did. At the end of the day on the 19th though, all of the decorations and food will vanish and the party will abruptly come to an end.

fair point. [He yawns.] i've been called "fluffy" in my day. though i'll be honest. not sure how you get fluff from bones.

[He gives Alex what he hopes is an apologetic smile.]

Like, as in, the "I have extremely shitty taste in graphic design" Sans?

[Jesus Christ he was talking to a skeleton the whole time and he doesn't know how to feel about that]

[He blinks his eyesockets, which may or may not be unsettling.]

wait, so...

ah, i guess that makes you alex.

Yep. [But he won't sound HAPPY about it.

Whyyyy is the skeleton blinking skeletons don't have eyelids this is not right this not how anatomy works.]

Were you, like, once human or something? Did Wonderland mess you up?

[He's not sure what kind of answer he's looking for here. He doesn't want it to be possible to just end up a walking talking skeleton one day, that's for sure.]

[He frowns faintly.]

people keep asking me that. nah, i'm not human. i'm a monster. totally different species.

[He pauses.]

i know the word "monster" doesn't sound so great, but that's what we call ourselves. doesn't mean we're gonna start eating people or something.

[He's not so drunk that he hasn't learned from his mistakes here. "Monster" is just a word to him, but to a lot of people here it's some kind of insult. Something that makes people look at him real funny. And Sans isn't one to ruffle feathers if he can help it.]

[Funny, that's a word that's gotten thrown at Alex before. Well, briefly. By people who don't matter anymore.

He's still a bit perturbed, but not overly. He's drunk enough to be more curious than anything else.]

But you can eat. [Hang on this is actually fascinating. How is he drinking without any internal organs.] Like, not people, but...stuff. You're drinking stuff. How're you doing that?

yeah, pretty magical, right? [He winks.]

i wouldn't worry too much about it. magic is weird.

Magic. Right. [He shifts back a few inches. And then a few more. The winking thing is just not something he can get over right away. Bone shouldn't be moving like that.]

What, so if I think about it too hard it disappears in a puff of logic or something?

[Welp, maybe he shouldn't have winked. Oh well.]

nah, it just keeps existing and defies explanation. better to just accept it and move on.

Huh. So if you can drink, does that mean you can get drunk too?

[He's never had an opportunity to add "get drunk with a skeleton" to his bucket list but hell if that wouldn't be a great addition.]

of course. i try not to, but sure.

[He's a talkative drunk, which tends to come back to bite him in the tailbone. In the meantime, though, he's gonna grab a glass of some kind of liquor off the table and drink it to prove his point.]

[rosswood]

Mmhm. [He raises his glass in a mock toast, swishing the contents around with the air of a challenge.] You wanna see who gets plastered quickest? But I'll warn ya, I'm from Alabama, so I've had practice.

[punful]

hmm.

[He shouldn't, but the party is making him feel a little reckless.]

sure, why not? i'm not too good at racing, though. too lazy for it.

[rosswood]

Does it really qualify as racing if you're not going anywhere? [Except maybe a one-way ticket to one hell of a hangover, but who's keeping track? Any incentive to have fun. Alex already has kind of a head start to boot, but he's bent on draining his glass dry and then filling it all up again. Parties are for indulging after all, right?] I mean, think about it.

[punful]

i'm not a fan of anything that requires speed, tibia honest.

[But he's committed to this, so he's gonna go ahead and grab a glass of something from the table and down it in one go.]

[Fortunately the party knows to convert real food to monster food, so it doesn't all just fall out of him and end up on the floor.]

[rosswood]

[Alex squints at him suspiciously.] Was that a pun. [He's not MAD about it. Honestly he's a little bit impressed. He's even more impressed to see the skeleton go chugging down the nearest drink like there's no tomorrow.

Drinking competition with a skeleton, let's do this.

Not to be outdone, Alex finishes his own drink - aaaaaand then he has to sit down. Oh. Wow. That was a little more alcoholic than he thought it'd be, even for someone of his admirable constitution. Can the room quit spinning, please?]

[punful]

[He sets down the empty glass, grinning.] course it was. what, you didn't like the pun-ch line?

[Sans goes for another drink once Alex finishes his, wobbling a little. He's already sort of regretting this whole thing but, oh well, he's committed now. Plus he knows his limits, and he's okay with losing this little competition.]

[rosswood]

[Alex knew his limits back when he was sober. Whoops. It doesn't help that he's pretty much chugging at this rate and is bound to pass out in the interim. The party don't stop, yo.]

Mmmnah, I can respect that. Wordplay. S'clever. [Fill 'er up again, that's the spirit. He's spacing this drink out as opposed to straight downing it.] Hey, um. Y'ever heard of the four balls theory?

[punful]

[Sans is taking it a bit slower, trying with varying effect to resist the pull of Saturnalia. He's just really not one for...revelry. Drinking, though, that he can get behind, but even then he always takes things slow.]

hmm... [He blinks rather blearily, sorting through any jokes and scientific theories that Alex might be referencing.]

nope, can't say that i have.

[rosswood]

Y'know, it's like. When an object enters the timestream, time's gotta correct itself, yeah? [He's digging up an odd little memory for this punchline, that's for sure. He was so proud of himself for referencing something so obviously high-brow and intellectual when he'd included it in his script for that old movie project but -

But that was a long time ago.]

So it's like - when there're four balls on the edge of a cliff and um, the first ball gets an exact copy of itself. Then th'first ball becomes the second one, and the second is the third, and so on, right?

[At this point he's lost track of why he thought telling this story was a good idea in the first place, since all his focus is now being wholly devoted to remembering how it ends.]

And the fourth ball - squeaky wheel - it falls off the edge. Time works like that. [He frowns, trying to remember. He had a point here.]

[Sans pauses almost imperceptibly, his hand on another glass. Why is Alex talking about time? Does he know? Did he guess?]

[No. No, that's not it. It's normal, right? You come to Wonderland, see all these realities and timelines mashed together, it seems pretty normal to talk about time-related thought experiments. To want to muse about how spacetime really works.]

[He takes a drink.]

definitely haven't heard that one before. so in this metaphor, over the edge of the cliff means out of the timestream, yeah?

[He finishes the drink a bit too fast.]

pretty raw deal for the fourth ball.

[rosswood]

S'um, like, s'like a correcting a mistake. Something's gotta give. Can't have a copy of the same thing fuckin' things up, right?

[It's possible that Alex had a point in here somewhere, but he's pretty much lost track of it. All he can do is track the line of thought he already started and hope that at some point it ends up somewhere comprehensible.

At this point he's doing little more than regurgitating some of the lines from the masterful script he wrote back in college, but it's getting to be a strain to remember. He sips at his current drink a little more delicately, lost in that dangerous memory lane.]

I wrote that. Back at home. It was gonna be a movie.

[He swirls the liquid in another glass, watching it blur and waver.]

makes sense, i guess. basic physics. two things can't occupy the same space, etc etc.

[Boy does he ever want to not talk about this, especially while drunk.]

spacetime is funny.

[He's very glad for the change of subject, because he knows he's going to say something he regrets if this keeps up.]

oh, huh, so you're a filmmaker?

[rosswood]

Oh yeah.

[The subject shift works, because Alex is too intoxicated to recognize a distraction tactic for what it is. Besides, he's not about to deny himself the opportunity to expound upon his various creative talents.]

Was aiming to finish this one project by college but, y'know, got all abducted before I could finish it. Shame. Was gonna be a real fresh take, y'know?

[The acoustics in the Underground are pretty crappy, plus there isn't much room. Can't get those neat helicopter shots.]
