Summary: IO, SATURNALIA! The party has arrived and it is here to stay for 72 hours straight of good food, gambling, dancing, drinking, singing, and so on and so forth!
The Story:

A few days into Ewaymas, on December 15th, everyone will wake up to a scroll outside their door. This scroll is an invitation to a Saturnalia celebration in two days, and everyone is welcome! If asked for clothing for the party, the closets will provide synthesis – brightly colored Roman robes – for the occasion, but the dress code is mostly just colorful and fun, if you choose to abide by it.

Starting on the 17th there will be a lavish feast in the ballroom, and food and drink are never in short supply. Drunkenness is encouraged, but there will be non-alcoholic beverages as well. There will be tables set up for gambling and dice games, music from a wide variety of worlds (specifically to encourage loud singing along and dancing all night - some are holiday remixes but others aren't), and areas for dancing and playing other games. The decorations are all in a rainbow of bright colors like the synthesis, with suns hanging up and candles floating in the air. Laurels and pileus will be available at the party for everyone to wear on their heads.

It's the kind of party that will get increasingly louder and rowdier...and it literally won't end for three whole days. Those prone to gluttony, greed, or even just escapism will find themselves not wanting to leave the party at all. There's always something to do and you can always just pass out of the floor when you're tired, right? Right! No one knows how to party like the Romans did. At the end of the day on the 19th though, all of the decorations and food will vanish and the party will abruptly come to an end.

[ Sam's... well, Sam's been enjoying himself. Maybe a nice get together is just the kind of thing he needed to let some steam off. The only thing he would do differently is to have some real music that people could dance to. As it is, he'll do what he can with what he's given.

He locks eyes with the woman across the party and does a double take immediately. At first he's not sure she's real, as much as some indigo statue, but then she moves and he finds his feet moving towards her.

Hey, fine is fine. And he's curious, and maybe a little bit fueled on by liquid courage. Today he went to Narnia. Who knows what else he can do in Wonderland today?

He stops a few feet from her, giving her a nod and his best smile. ]

Hey, there.

[Fortunately for Sam, he isn't the only one who's happy to be letting off some steam. This party doesn't seem so bad, really, despite what other people have brought forward to her about the 'events' this place throws.

She watches the double-take and the approach with mild curiosity. At least he's going to say hello if he's going to study her like that.]

Hey.

You know, you can come closer - I'm not part of some exhibit.

[She waves a hand in front of her.]

See? No bars.

[ Sam raises his eyebrows in surprise. So, she'd been watching him, watching her. He clears his throat, flashing her a smile. ]

Yeah, I'm sorry about that. I thought I was seeing things for a moment. It's hard to miss you. [ It's clear by the way he says it that it's not an insult.

He holds out his hand.]

I'm Sam.

[He's handling the situation much better than the last gentleman who spoke to her, at any rate. She laughs, ducking her head for a moment before she takes his hand and gives it a firm shake.

Probably firmer than he's expecting, even.]

Mystique. Are you enjoying the party, Sam?

[It's proven quite interesting as far as she's concerned, but she's still curious about what other people think of it.]

[ He raises his eyebrow in surprise at the strength behind her handshake. Not because he doesn't think women can shake decently, but because she does it like she has something to prove. That or she doesn't know the power behind those blue arm muscles. ]

You been working out, Mystique?

[ He grins at his own joke and takes a sip of his drink. ] Definitely. Music, wine, food - what's not to enjoy? How about you? Are you enjoying yourself?

[ceruleans]

Twice a day, every day.

[Sometimes more than that if she was feeling angry. She'd been feeling angry a lot in the last few weeks before she'd come to this place. She laughs easily, glad that the party atmosphere is slowly catching on.]

Well, how about the whole 'trapped in a weird mansion against our wills' thing? I'm enjoying this about as much as any captive could be.

[ He knows that feeling. Sometimes when the only thing you can do is try to be prepared for whatever is coming your way. For him and a lot of the people here that means training. There's a reason he's not usually alone on his morning runs. ]

That part takes some getting used to, I'll admit. I take it you haven't been here long?

[ceruleans]

No, I got thrown right into the uh -- holiday weirdness.

[She's still not wholly on board with the 'team' mentality. She's been hurt by both Charles and Erik, so working out and working alone is just a better option for her as far as she's considered.

Sure, it's more dangerous - but it's also less painful.]

You?

I've been here for a few months. I wouldn't say it grows on you, but you learn not to take times when the weirdest thing around is a wine fountain for granted.

[ Speaking of, he's almost on empty. ]

Do you have a drink?

Trust me, I think being at home did a good enough job of teaching me that.

[Or maybe, more accurately, she didn't take for granted the times when the most dangerous thing around was a wine fountain.]

Rough neighborhood?

[ It's barely a question, but it's enough to get the real question across without getting too personal if she doesn't want to talk about it. Considering he's never seen anyone like her before, he's guessing her world is different than most. Or different from his at least.

Then again, he was getting weirder by the day before he got pulled here.]

Well - lots of people wanting to kill mutants, alternate universes. I'd say you know how it is, but that seems either presumptive or racist or both.

[And that's when she realizes she ignored his other question. She lifts her mostly-finished glass of wine.]

I'm nearly empty.

Yeah, definitely rough neighborhood. Actually, we have some mutants and this place is full of alternate universes, but your world definitely sounds a lot more complicated than mine.

[ He grins and holds up his own glass, nearly empty. ]

Would you like me to get you another?

[ceruleans]

[She passes the glass over to him with a smile and a raised eyebrow.]

If we're going to keep talking about alternate realities, I'm definitely going to need a refill.

Understood. I'll be right back.

[ He excuses himself and makes short work of refilling the glasses before he's back. He hands her a glass. ] Fresh from the wine fountain.

So let me tell you about my friend Natasha who isn't really my friend Natasha.

[ Did that sound drunk or was it just the truth?]

[Maybe a little of both. It wasn't the worst thing to hear.]

Okay, shoot. You probably know more about your alternate universes than I do mine. The guy who came from a future didn't exactly like me.

[ He grins at her and then takes a drink.]

So, my Natasha is pretty unforgettable, which is why when I saw one that was slightly off I understandably freaked the hell out. But it turns out she's the same - except she's not the same.

[ So that had definitely sounded drunk. ]

She looks a little bit different, but underneath they're a lot a like.

Well, apparently I became some kind of succubus-assassin where he was from.

[It's probably not terrible that he's drunk, for when she says something like that.]

It makes sense though, doesn't it? At least some things have to be written into people's DNA.

[Or into their souls, if you believed in that kind of thing.]

Succubus-assassin? That does succubus.

[ Oh God, that chuckle at his own laugh means he's definitely had too much to drink. Mostly because that might give him a second thought normally. At the moment though, it's more interesting than anything else. ]

Yeah, I guess so. Does that mean you could become a succubus assassin under the right circumstances?

[ceruleans]

[She's not about to divulge the exact situation that had come up at home with a stranger who just made a really terrible pun in her general direction. Definitely not.

But she nods, no hesitation in her movements.]

Well, yeah. People can become anything if they're pushed hard enough.
