"Part of me is the Hang Man, and part of me is the victim." (OPEN!!)
Who: Ford Pines (
mviw) his owl and YOU!
Where: Various (Mystery Shack, the Library, & Elsewhere)
When: Gravity Falls Event through Upcoming Memory Event
Rating: PG-13 for potential swearing.
Summary: Ford adjusts to Wonderland by trying to be a shut-in, but his family and new friends have other plans. Also, he has an owl and a driving sense of curiosity.
The Story: Pick a prompt or start your own!
A. "Let's end the charade. This game is over." (CLOSED to Stan) Gravity Falls Event: At night (Backdated)
[Ford always prefers privacy over socialization, so this event is shaping up to be one headache after another. During daylight hours, Ford avoids the tours being given by his brother and instead he spends most of his time in the forest. Illusion though it is, it's a familiar one. At night, unable to sleep as usual, he opens his window to let his owl fly freely while he creeps through the 'house' looking for the basement levels and his journals.
The basement is what he looks for first behind the vending machine... And to his disappointment and frustration, it isn't there.]
Damn.
[It's a hushed utterance followed by a pang of fear. He doesn't like feeling trapped. Of course Wonderland wouldn't provide the portal or its equipment, but... it was worth a try.
Ford hears a sudden noise; probably someone sneaking through the house after hours. Not wanting to explain why he's in his brother's gift shop in the middle of the night, Ford slips behind the cashier counter to wait them out.]
B. "There's a room full of people in your head." (OPEN) Gravity Falls Event: Shack/Forest (Backdated)
[Ford can be found in the house kitchen hoarding orange juice or exiting a room with a mysteriously carved door.
Otherwise, he will be out in the forest assisting both creatures and mansion residents to minimize destruction of his-- well, it's not really his home, but it's close enough. He may be an old science man but he has a laser gun and he knows space karate.]
C. "I don't even know who's at the wheel." (OPEN) Library (Current)
[Ford is spending less time in his room and more time in the library, as of late. Rather than check out books and take them to actual privacy, he's been enjoying the massive volume of information right at his disposal and all that comes with it; the smell of binding and paper, the hushed atmosphere, the sense of awe he's never lost when he knows he can always learn more.
At the chosen table he's set up stacks of books in various piles. The largest pile by far is on birds of prey--specifically owls. In the middle of it all are sheets of paper with doodles of who some might recognize to be his family, but mostly of his owl who he accidentally summoned from the closet several weeks prior. Included in the drawings are scenes from the mansion and Wonderland itself as well.
Not only is he a nerd, but he seems to be quite the artist.]
D. "You've gotta follow the voice you wanna follow." (OPEN) Write your own starter.

"Welcome back" is fine, thank you Mr. Prongs. I'm sorry to say, my trip wasn't very nice at all. I had a run-in with someone very dangerous who we'll refer to as Xrksvi. He is a being of pure energy and a master of chaos. If he should ever exist in Wonderland again, you will know him by his cryptic but bold speech and the fact that he can read your thoughts. It's very unsettling to say the least. He takes his form in the shape of a yellow isosceles triangle with a single eye in the center; commonly referred to as the Eye of Providence. There is nothing providential about Xrksvi.
Do not draw his symbol! I suspect it acts as a window allowing him to see and hear what's on the other side.
Thank you for elaborating on magic in your world! I find the logic to using wands as conductors a lot more satisfying than having them as a decorative accessory, like they're often depicted in media. Is there a way to predict who can produce magic and who can't? Am I correct to speculate that perhaps muggles can sometimes be born with the ability to channel magic and some magic-born folk without the ability? I've studied Developmental Biology quite intensively in order to understand how life is formed, created, and functions according to its DNA-- that's deoxyribonucleic acid, the proteins out of which all life is constructed. Genetic anomalies are one of my specialties.
(Is the Ministry of Magic a parallel to the British government?)
As for your question... Simply put: I don't know.
The more complicated answer is, it would be possible, theoretically. Despite my extensive research on the sentient mind I have not come across something that can restore damage done to it. For example: If someone has a neurological disease that causes the decay of brain tissue, even if the disease is curable and the tissue can be repaired, the substance of "memories" and the person's personality will most likely never be the same. I've encountered technology that allows the transplant of an entire person's mind into a machine, but this process is incredibly dangerous and unstable in every incarnation I've seen it used.
I can assure you that this is an issue of great importance to me as well. We both have family here in Wonderland, so I don't need to explain the urgency of the matter.

Dear Author,
Thank you for the warning, though I'm sorry your trip was less than pleasant. Are you alright, mate? A Master of Chaos sounds fairly dangerous!
I'm sure it's possible to predict, though I don't believe many have tried to track it far in advance, due to our communities being separated. Occasionally people born in magical families are born without magical abilities - we call them Squibs. The working theory from what I remember is that all muggle-borns have very very very very distant squib ancestors, centuries back, and that the magical ability resurfaces very suddenly several generations later. I'm not certain how it works elsewhere, but in the United Kingdom there's a Magic Quill that records every magical child born, even if they're born in a muggle family.
(It is! The American equivalent is the Magical Congress of the United States of America.)
Hm. Perhaps combining it with magic could make it safer or more effective, but that isn't precisely what I'm looking for. You're correct regarding the urgency of the matter, but I feel it does require more explanation on my end. We aren't seeking merely to prevent Wonderland from stealing our memories of home (though we aren't fans of that either). While here, we've discovered absolutely vital information about our world, and we need to be able to take it with us when we go. People's lives and futures are at stake.
This must be rather heavy for casual pen pals, but I couldn't help myself. There are a small number of us here (both magical and not) who are particularly interested in the memory magic of Wonderland, and in possibly combining methods from different worlds to combat it. It seems like something that would be of interest to you, Author.
Sincerely,
Mr. Prongs

Mr. Prongs,
It isn't heavy at all! Serious discussion helps drive people to come together and freely exchange ideas. The thought is of great interest to me, and I would like to speak to you about it in person.
Best regards,

Perfect! I'd like that a lot. How about tomorrow, in the gardens, around noon? It'll be interesting to finally meet the face behind the letters.
Sincerely,
Mr. Prongs
