Movie Night!

Who: Anyone who wants to come watch Dinosaur movies
Where: The Movie Theater, Fourth Floor
When: Friday April 8th, 8pm
Rating: PG-13 for Raptors
Summary: Jurassic Park Movie Night
The Story:

As soon as people start showing up in the theater, a gentle song begins playing in the background. They will see the obvious screen on the back wall, but what's more, the seating is surrounded by prehistoric foliage. And in that foliage, stands a hand full of herbivorous dinosaurs. They seem to be grazing on the vegetation without a care in the world. If someone reaches out to touch, the holograms will destabilize as their hand passes right through them only to form back together once the disruption is gone. Even the vegetation seems to be a holographic projection along with the imitated grass floor and night sky. In the four corners of the room, set into the ceiling, are small domes that flicker ever so slightly as they cast and regulate the projections. The occasional T-Rex roar will echo in the background of the music, making the small herd of Parasaurolophus look up with a fright, then lower their heads back down.

The lights dim and the movie begins, the noise surrounding the holograms quiets as to not interrupt from the movies, only to return during the short breaks between films.

If you stray over to the refreshments table, thick brush and tall grass will conceal a deadly pair of raptors lurking. Appropriately themed snacks are set up on the table, including a few sweet treats courtesy of Darcy (including jello shots).

Occasionally, an unwary snacker will come to a fright as one or both of said hunters will pop out of the grass with a sharp, chittering cry. Lucky for the unfortunate victim, the jumpscare is all there is to worry about. The tricky little raptors will slink back down into the grass and lie in wait for their next victim. Don't spill your popcorn, its just an illusion.

You're welcome.

[ No, luckily, she managed to keep her elbows and other sharp edges to herself. He doesn't seem abashed about her half-landing in his lap, so she's still in good spirits as he seems fairly concerned at her arm. ]

Oh, Alistair, I was only joking. See? [ She turns her arm within his grasp: the marks are nearly gone. ] You didn't hurt me at all.

[ His tense grip had been totally justified, though, considering the tension was brought on by such a suspenseful part of the movie! ]

We should... [ She trails off quietly, gently slipping her arm away. Afterward, the Warden rises and settles back into her seat, taking care to stay away from the edge, getting easily sucked back into the images. ]

The raptors remind me a bit of the deepstalkers. [ Robyn notes, again on a whisper, to avoid further ire from the others. ] Do you know what I mean?

Well, good. I wouldn't want to have.

[His smile returns when it's clear that she's alright and not bothered by the accident and that he's the only one likely to have bruises tomorrow. Not that he's mentioning that to Robyn, given their location and the fact he was the one to pull her down on top of him.

He only realises he's still hanging onto her arm and rubbing where the marks were when she pulls it back. Flushing, Alistair scrambles back up into his own seat and turns his attention back to the movie. They haven't missed too much of the action thankfully and it's easy to get pulled back into what's happening on screen.]

I do. Especially when they're working together like that. But deepstalkers look creepier. Can you imagine if they were as big as those things? Brrr!

[He practically shudders just thinking about it. Giant spiders were bad enough without adding more ugly, hungry creatures to the list of things that could try and eat them. If there were packs of giant deepstalkers or even those raptors roaming the Deep Roads they'd even give the darkspawn trouble.]

If you had wanted to, we would have a real problem.

[ He releases her arm and shifts back onto his seat in return, and before long, they're both staring avidly again, though Robyn does occasionally glance his way to make sure her fellow Warden isn't about to tumble forward again. ]

Oh, don't even say it. It could happen, I would believe that anything could come out of the Deep Roads.

[ The place is positively hellish. He's right, though: the raptors are eerie in how they seem to work in packs and in their size, but the deepstalkers have those gaping mouths full of teeth. She shudders briefly, cringing. ]

I wonder how they make it all look so real. [ She says on a breath, since the 'dinosaurs' aren't real and it's all been dressed up to look as if it really happened, somehow. ] No wonder those people look so terrified.

[It's a valid concern as Alistair goes right back to inching a little further forward in his seat every time something exciting happens on screen. If he's lucky there will be a lull in the action before he falls off again so he can reseat himself. If not, he'll be walking funny tomorrow and everyone here will know why.]

If they ever do come up from there I don't want to be the one to fight them.

[Although it wouldn't be impossible. The pack of raptors would be difficult to face alone but with a small party they could be beaten. The people in the movie just don't know how to fight so no wonder they were all scared, real or not.]

They must have known it wasn't real, right? They wouldn't have just been thrown out there to get chased by the- the fake dinosaurs and thought they might actually be in danger. That's not how this sort of thing is made, is it?

[How Robyn should know how movies are made is anyone's guess but she has been dealing with the strangeness of Wonderland longer. Maybe she's gained some secret knowledge he hasn't.]

Do you 'want' to be the one to fight all the rest of those things? [ Everything from giant spiders to darkspawn to dracolisks and more. Robyn smiles fleetingly, but her eyes are still on the screen. ]

No, it's... something like our devices, I think. A moving image that isn't really there.

[ That sounds about right. Maybe the people on screen are shown pictures of the creatures and then they react? They seem genuinely terrified, at least, so if there isn't anything there, it's impressive. But, then... how do the images of the dinosaurs appear next to them? Where do they come from? And--

And these are the kinds of thoughts that hold her attention, occasionally coming up in their hushed whispers as the movie wraps up. When the lights finally come back on and the screen goes dark, the Warden stretches her legs out in front of her, groaning briefly. ]

I'm not sure I've sat down for that long in a while. [ She glances to Alistair, smiling contentedly, crossing and uncrossing her ankles. ] So, what did you think? Scary enough for you?

When you put it like that.... What about running away to hide in Orlais? Do you think that could work?

[Otherwise they're both doomed to spend the rest of their lives fighting all those things and anything else that crawls out of the Deep Roads, yes. The joys of being a Warden.]

You mean like the ones in here.

[They are impressive and easy to take for real until someone tries to touch them. Especially the ones by the snack table that may have startled him just a little when they popped up. He can see how, even knowing it's fake, someone could easily act terrified by them.

When the movie ends and they can finally talk normally without annoying people, Alistair immediately takes the opportunity to stretch his arms over his head with a groan. Relaxing back down in his seat he scoffs at Robyn's question.]

Scared? Me? Ha! I laugh in the face of danger, hahaha! [Looking at her slyly out of the corner of his eye he adds-] ....But you could still walk me back to me room. Not that I'm worried. But since you asked.
heroica: (everybody lets you down)

They would suss us out right away. [ Robyn laughs, shaking her head. ] If you asked them, I'm sure they would say they can smell us.

[ Damn Orlesians. So, darkspawn it is! Hooray... ]

Like the ones in here. [ She confirms, looking over to them. The images of the dinosaurs are still in the room, impressive and animated, and she has to smile at whatever it is that makes them possible. ] That must be how it works.

[ It makes the most sense of any explanations thus far, anyway, though there haven't been too many. ]

I only hope we don't run into any of those raptors on the way. [ She says seriously, the effect quickly undermined by a sly smile of her own. Robyn rises to her feet, glancing around at the crowd briefly before looking to him. ]

Shall we go, fearless Warden? Or are you going to laugh in the face of danger a bit more?

[Hooray. Darkspawn.

If only they were like the dinosaurs and not solid. That would be a lot better. Too bad he doesn't see it happening. They'll just have to enjoy their compulsory holiday while it lasts then. Preferably without raptors but-]

If we do I'm counting on you to protect me.

[Because he is a delicate flower who can't be expected to fight evil lizards with huge claws and teeth. Hence why he needs her to walk him just down the hall to his room. To keep him safe.]

I've laughed enough for tonight I think. Lead the way.

You know I'll just try and recruit any raptors we find. [ Or-- No, he doesn't know that. He doesn't know as much about her. She bites her lip, looking apologetic, and then shakes her head. ] I, ah... I bring a lot of people into our party. I mean, I did. I think I tend to be a little more forgiving than a lot of the others would like.

[ Morrigan and Sten, particularly. ]

On we go. [ "You decliate flower." Robyn starts off out of the movie room down the hall; she knows that Alistair lives on this floor as she's visited him a few times. ]

Do you think we'll ever have anything like that? [ She asks, glancing over at him as they move. ] Not in our lifetime, maybe, but... in Thedas?
