Movie Night!
Who: Anyone who wants to come watch Dinosaur movies
Where: The Movie Theater, Fourth Floor
When: Friday April 8th, 8pm
Rating: PG-13 for Raptors
Summary: Jurassic Park Movie Night
The Story:

As soon as people start showing up in the theater, a gentle song begins playing in the background. They will see the obvious screen on the back wall, but what's more, the seating is surrounded by prehistoric foliage. And in that foliage, stands a hand full of herbivorous dinosaurs. They seem to be grazing on the vegetation without a care in the world. If someone reaches out to touch, the holograms will destabilize as their hand passes right through them only to form back together once the disruption is gone. Even the vegetation seems to be a holographic projection along with the imitated grass floor and night sky. In the four corners of the room, set into the ceiling, are small domes that flicker ever so slightly as they cast and regulate the projections. The occasional T-Rex roar will echo in the background of the music, making the small herd of Parasaurolophus look up with a fright, then lower their heads back down.
The lights dim and the movie begins, the noise surrounding the holograms quiets as to not interrupt from the movies, only to return during the short breaks between films.
If you stray over to the refreshments table, thick brush and tall grass will conceal a deadly pair of raptors lurking. Appropriately themed snacks are set up on the table, including a few sweet treats courtesy of Darcy (including jello shots).
Occasionally, an unwary snacker will come to a fright as one or both of said hunters will pop out of the grass with a sharp, chittering cry. Lucky for the unfortunate victim, the jumpscare is all there is to worry about. The tricky little raptors will slink back down into the grass and lie in wait for their next victim. Don't spill your popcorn, its just an illusion.
You're welcome.

[ In the apocalypse, you don't have as much time to watch movies. Joel's brother Tommy had said that his people did, in their safe, little town, and maybe one day they'd make it back there and she'd be able to catch up on the cinema of the past... forever. In Wonderland, though, she's reliant upon other residents to update her on all the awesome movies she's missed. Max once mentioned Jaws, and Ellie plans to get there, but the one they're showing in the magical mansion today is a little different. Not too different from people fighting for their lives from a shark, but... you know, a little.
Before the movie begins, the fourteen year-old is wandering and admiring the decorations, after claiming a seat by leaving a jacket on it. It isn't long before Ellie finds the snacks, picking through and arranging her selections on a plate, reaching out for a dino cupcake when one of the fake raptors pops up. ]
Oh, fuck-! [ She's about to drop the plate and stab the thing, but... you know, it isn't real. Ellie utters a nervous, delayed laugh, glancing sideways at the person nearby. ]
Glad I didn't lose my cool. [ Yeah, right. ] And- Okay, to be fair, it would make total sense for there to be real dinosaurs here. Wonderland's done weirder, right?
during the movie
[ Ellie is a good movie-goer. She's quiet when there's dialogue (unlike, apparently, some of the other residents, who she occasionally glares at and/or throws pieces of popcorn at). She gasps when appropriate, laughs when there's a joke, and... also when the dinosaurs get a few of the people. What? The violence is silly and the dinosaurs are obviously fake. Isn't the most important thing that they're having a good time? ]
Oh, man. [ She breathes, eyes wide as the t-rex makes it debut. No wonder people talk about this movie so much. She leans forward in her seat, clearly enjoying the feature, occasionally missing her mouth with the snacks in hand because she's so engrossed. ]
or create your own ellie scenario!
During the movie!
It's obvious he's seen it quite a few times, because he knows when a particularly startling scene involving a surprise raptor is coming up, because he times the moment perfectly with suddenly poking her playfully in the sides in the dark theater, to match the jump of the dinosaur itself, just for sheer effect since she's so immersed. ]

Billy; OTA
Billy couldn't be happier with the way the theater turned out. Asking Tony for help had been the best idea and he hadn't disappointed. Everything looked so real he almost thought it had all been done with magic (sorry Tony).
He strategically placed himself by the snack table before the movie to watch how many people jump when the raptors pop out of the bushes. He'd asked Tony to do that and it still made him jump the first time it happened. It just wasn't a Jurassic Park movie night if no one was getting scared by Raptors.
during the movie:
Billy picks a seat in the middle of the theater that gives him the best view. He can't help think of Teddy and feel a pang of regret that he isn't here for this, he would have loved it. But he wasn't and Billy was determined not to dwell.
He always enjoyed watching these movies and soon found himself sucked into it again as if it was the first time. He welcomed company with a smile, and an offer of popcorn, it was always nicer to watch movies with a friend.

[ She's never seen anything like this. Whatever magic or future-technology makes the "dinosaurs" and the environment, it's incredible. The Warden looks, wide-eyed, around at the displays with great scrutiny, passing a hand through the holograms with a delighted laugh. If things like this are common in any other world, the kinds of entertainment they have regularly must be unbelievable. ]
They really are like dragons. [ Robyn remarks, awed, smiling at one of the nearby herbivores as she passes it to examine the food. Though she doesn't have the typical Grey Warden nightmares in Wonderland (that is, though she doesn't see the dragon-formed Archdemon regularly anymore), it doesn't mean she's forgotten the rare but unforgettable sight of a true dragon. The dinosaurs of "Jurassic Park" aren't the same, obviously, but they're still mightily impressive.
The spread is also, admittedly, impressive. Robyn lights up when she sees what they've provided for the guests to eat, taking with only mild trepidation some of the more bizarre-looking offerings, the things she can't figure out immediately and will have to taste-test to identify. The "dino eggs" in particular have her squinting and pinching one between her fingers, sniffing it briefly when she thinks no one is looking. ]
Sweet. [ Is her conclusion, and she adds it to the growing pile. She'd had no expectations about this event and had, in fact, had more questions than anything, but it's all been beyond her guesses thus far. ]
during the movie
[ The Warden didn't think to save a seat for herself, not knowing how movie culture typically goes, and as a consequence is sitting from a less-than-perfect vantage point. It doesn't help that she's shorter, so Robyn occasionally folds her legs on the chair and sits on them, rising up every so often, eyes glued to the screen. It's certainly not like anything she's seen before, in both format and content, but she enjoys every second of it. She's also a little more responsive than most, having both never seen the movie before and being a fairly expressive person, and will occasionally do things like clap a hand to her mouth in surprise and instinctively grab the arm of the person next to her. On one such instance, she glances over to them, but her mind is clearly still in the story as her eyes flicker quickly back to the screen. ]
I'm sorry. [ She says to the person she'd grabbed in a hushed whisper, though her hand is still grasping their arm, as if she's forgotten about it. In fact, she seems to be fully immersed again before she finishes those two words, hovering in half of an apology, watching, likely, one of the more climactic parts of the movie. ]
or create your own robyn scenario!
during the movie
Squeaking as one of the angry little ones pops out at the boy and girl again his grip tightens on Robyn's arm.] They're not going to get eaten, are they? They wouldn't let them get eaten!

Clint would probably never admit it to Tony (no one needs to add to his ego) but the theater looks pretty amazing. The small touches of the T-Rex roar and the other dinosaurs looking up in time was a nice effect.
During the Movies:He was standing by the snack table deciding what to put on a plate when the raptors jumped out of the foliage. One thing one should never do is startle an assassin because before Clint can think he's lashing out at the Raptor with his fist only for the punch to go straight through its head. "Fuck," he mutters realizing that it's actually a hologram. His heart is racing but he huffs out a laugh. "Damnit Stark." He was too young to have a heart attack.
Clint sits down with Natasha and the rest of the team that Natasha and Tony have managed to drag in. It's nice just relaxing for a bit with them, no world saving, just them being themselves.
Clint is a movie heckler but a quiet one, making comments and jokes and reciting lines along with the characters under his breath. He throws popcorn in the air and catches it in his mouth and might flick a piece or two and some unsuspecting victims.
He moves around during the intermissions and changes seats a few times, as the rest of the team also moves around mingling with people they know.
Wildcard. Your choice.

"This? Not funny. I have to rewrite my security software again. Do you know how much of a pain in the ass that is?" Tony was huffy, but he wasn't actually upset. It was a challenge and he needed a new project now that this one and Steve's were already finished.

[ It's been some time since Steve came out to one of these group viewings, but there hadn't been any question that he'd attend this time around. Not when Tony had pestered him over text message about how he had to come, promising that it would be worth the trip. It's not like Steve has much else to do with his day beyond the general routine of training, so he shows up without much protest.
Well, Tony hadn't been kidding. Steve barely recognizes the theater when he walks inside, as it appears to have been turned into some kind of prehistoric jungle. It doesn't take long for Steve to figure out how it was done, mainly because working with Stark has made him very familiar with holograms. That doesn't make it any less impressive, though, and Steve wanders the entire room, inspecting the herbivores with a small smile on his face.
As it gets closer to the start time, Steve heads over to the snack table to stock up. He's completely unsuspecting, so when the jump scare happens it sends a jolt through him. His back goes straight and every soldier's instinct in him comes to life, causing him to toss his bag of popcorn at the fake raptor.
Naturally, the bag falls right through the projection and all over the floor. Steve draws in a quick breath and then lets it out again, shoulders slumping as he realizes he's been duped.
He mutters under his breath: ] Very funny, guys...
during the movie:
[ While the movie might be over twenty years old, Steve finds that the large number of practical effects means that it actually holds up pretty well. Sure, the dinosaurs are fake, but somehow the story and the suspense manage to draw him in all the same. This isn't the sort of threat that he's ever encountered in his own battles, which means that it offers its own brand of escapism.
He munches on his popcorn through most of the movie and even has a few of the dinosaur cupcakes, though he ends up completely glued to the screen during some of the more thrilling parts. While he isn't one to talk over a movie, he won't hesitate to share a few remarks with anyone who joins him during the screening. ]
Before
Tony flinches when Steve tries to kill the carnivore with popped corn. Yeah, that was a little priceless to see.]
Damn. Didn't get my phone out fast enough to record that. Captain America verses Volciraptor. The surprising casualty: popcorn. [Tony moved to scoop up the bag then collected what spilled out.] You good? With the workouts you subject yourself to, your old man heart should be holding up okay. If not, I can always grab the nearest portable defibrillator and zap you right back into shape.
[Why yes, that's actually Tony showing concern without actually looking emotional.]

[Peridot has a tendency to come to all of these functions, because pre-recorded earth entertainment is becoming a slight obsession with her. She's brought her kitten, who through some poor communication of the fact that she just calls him "clod" has now been named "claude," because she isn't comfortable leaving him alone. Also he won't stay put anyway. In fact he seems to be perfectly fine dangling off her shoulder with his claws digging into her skin. Ouch.
The illusions don't bother her any, but Claude ends up hissing at the jumpscare raptors like he's going to singlehandedly take them both on. She sighs and goes back to picking out snacks- at least Amethyst has taught her the value of eating.]
Ugh, they're not even real, you clod. [and then gently, in an oddly maternal tone] One day I'll teach you about proper hologram recognition.
during the movie
[due to the fact that there's no real CGI involved in this picture- Peridot can usually tell- and there aren't any obvious strings, the dinosaurs actually seem pretty real to her and for a hot moment, she's actually convinced they were filming ACTUAL CREATURES instead of animatronic ones.
halfway through the film, she whispers to whoever is sitting next to her.] Where did they find all of those creatures? They're so... [her eyes widen] majestic.

They recognize Peridot's distinct voice when she whispers, and brightens up a bit. They remember her!]

Henry | ota
This is so cool.
[Henry only finally got around to seeing the first Jurassic Park movie in New York, during that whole year when he lived there with Emma. But it was only the one time, and so he's looking forward to the movies themselves and getting to see them all. At the holograms, he does indeed wave his hand through them experimentally, grinning, and then he goes to fill his plate with food, taking a little bit of everything. He finds a seat somewhere up front, wanting to be right up in the action]
During the 2nd movie
[It's the scene with the baby T-Rex and knowing for sure that something bad is going to happen that has Henry's eyes riveted to the screen. He's eating food like a robot, just bringing it up to his mouth and chewing, refusing to look down to even see what he's grabbing because he doesn't want to miss anything.
This also means he maybe accidentally grabs food off of the plate beside him that definitely belongs to someone else.]
Before the movie
Yeah? Think so? Anything you would've done differently if you'd set this up? Presentation-wise, I mean.
[He's not owning up to anything, but innocent constructive criticism is always nice. Especially when it comes from someone who's unjaded.]
oh god i'm so sorry about henry in advance
omg don't apologise, he's precious!

Elizabeth | ota
Elizabeth appreciates the effort that's been gone to here, and she's not sure how much of that is how easily impressed she is and how much is truly remarkable. She knows a little about dinosaurs, having read about the Cope-Marsh feud and seen illustrations of the Hadrosaurus skeleton in her books, but she's amazed at just how much more has been researched - or imagined - since her own time. As she passes her hand through the Parasaurolophus she looks disappointed, having wanted to pet it, then delighted at the illusion.
b) During the movie
The film itself, however, is a little too much for her. She's only seen the flickering silent pictures through the Kinetoscopes in Columbia, and she's amazed at how lifelike everything looks. During the scarier parts, however, she jumps and covers her eyes, peering at the action between her fingers, or suddenly grabbing the person next to her to hide behind.
c) Wildcard!

Arya | OTA
Arya's hanging around the refreshment table, munching on a dinosaur cupcake, green icing coating her fingers. When she thinks no one's looking she takes another cake, then another, wanting to stuff herself full of them but not wanting to be told off for taking too many.
b) During the movie
At first the moving pictures make her feel a little queasy. She's gotten used to it with the device she uses to communicate with the others around the mansion, but she's never seen anything on a big screen like this before. It's not long, however, until she's thoroughly enjoying herself. This is exactly her sort of movie, and she quickly becomes completely absorbed in it. Unfortunately she isn't too aware of movie theatre etiquette, frequently talking back to the characters, speculating aloud what she thinks is going to happen, and shouting to the kids what they ought to do when the raptors are chasing them. Her favourite moment is when the T-Rex eats the lawyer on the toilet, and she bursts out laughing, clapping her hands and laughing so hard her sides ache and tears stream down her face. She wants to watch that part again.
c) During the movie (later)
While a movie may have been just the thing she needs, a movie marathon is a bit much for her. She tries to keep her eyes open but little by little she finds her head drooping as she nods off. When the lights come back up, she's curled up fast asleep, leaning against whoever's next to her.

Sure, it's an ancient Earth movie, but it isn't as though he's got anything better to do. A distraction is always going to be welcome. He has to admit that the place looks great. it's like a proper movie theatre, but even better, with the decorations and the holos.
He spends some time poking around, especially around the food. Free snacks are par for the course here, but there's something more special about this, knowing someone has put in effort to get them here.
During
Wash settles down near the back of the room on a pile of cushions. He has the customary popcorn, a large tub of the stuff because fuck, while he's here he might as well enjoy not having a strict diet. It's a pretty exciting movie actually, and the effects are good despite it being so old. He ends up watching avidly, leaning forward and even jumping when some of the dinosaurs attack. God, York would probably love this. Most of the others would have, at least early in the project. Now? He wasn't so sure.

And yes, that is definitely her taking a green one and scooping it onto a spoon before letting it jiggle. Except she doesn't look serious or like she's gonna poop herself while doing it. Nope, she's totally giggling. ]
During »
[ She pulls the hood up on the kid's blanket, watching intently at least until the raptors are in the kitchen of the first movie. Then, she has a bit of a problem keeping the giggles under control. She tries and only fails once to stop a snort. Between the first and second movies, she can be found moving back to the table and casually avoiding triggering the raptors while grabbing a handful of bugles to stick on her fingers so they're exactly like claws before moving back around in an attempt to sneak up on people. She might even give a little 'rar' before dissolving into a fit of giggles.
She may or may not also be somewhat responsible for throwing popcorn at people because why not add to the mess and join the other fun. On the flip side, while she's throwing popcorn she's also getting some returned. And when her hood's down, that makes things a little more difficult. Fingers run through the curls, but she can't help but wonder if she's missing something. Time to lean over and whisper a quick question to her neighbor. ]

Sam - OTA
[It feels like forever since they had one of these. And it's sorely needed in his opinion. The last event had been one of the rough ones and they need the help right now.
Besides, Jurassic Park is a classic and awesome and holds up pretty damn well.
Sam shows up early, helping to set up the cinema that's become a familiar place of safety now. There foliage is a nice touch, and Billy's decorations are always awesome. He spends plenty of time chatting to people as they arrive, and lingers around the snack table.
During
Sam settles down with a large bowl of popcorn. Some bits still manage to make him jump. But it's more comfortable than anything these days, like sitting down with a book that you've read a hundred times. It's part of the old world and he appreciates that more than ever. Who knows if there will ever be another Jurassic Park movie?

Sharon slips inside shortly before the movie begins and is only mildly disheartened to see that the back of the room is already fairly full. She'd hoped to sneak in, enjoy the movie without making anyone awkward, and then leave again. As it is...
She goes to the snack table and putters around, getting enough snacks that she won't have to get up halfway through the movie. So armed, she cases the seating area and chooses a seat along the aisle, where it will be easier to reach an exit if there's need.
She's halfway there when the jump-scare happens, and she spins on her heel before determining it's not a threat. She makes a face. She could damn well have spilled her food. Grr...
Still. No harm, no foul. She glances around in hopes that no one saw, and then makes her way to her seat.
During the movie
Jurassic Park is one of her favorite movies. She'd even gone back and read the book when she was twelve. Even after all these years, it holds up. Even when she knows all the words, she still loves it.
But that doesn't stop her from drifting off to sleep soon after the lawyer is eaten in half.
