Summary: Elena disappeared. Damon is a mess.
The Story:

Damon cannot find Elena anywhere. Never mind that the last time he saw her she was defending the asshole that tried to kill him. She is nowhere in the mansion at all, and Damon searches each and every single corner for her, busting down doors, looking for her wherever he can look as he drinks from multiple bottles of bourbon. He always has one in hand as he darts around the mansion, shoving down doors, rough housing people who might know where Elena's at. No one has satisfying answers.

He's dangerous.

He's angry.

He's not to be messed with at the moment, tearing down the hallways, flipping over shelves and anything that happens to be in his way in his anger, in his sheer frustration

and refusal to accept. He leaves a path of destruction wherever he goes, broken tables, holes in walls, a path of destruction left behind him. Broken doors and broken walls.

Damon doesn't give a fuck.

"That bad?"

Her eyebrows go up curiously, brushing aside Wonderland's tendencies for a moment, and focusing on Damon's particular reaction to the idea of Elena being returned to Mystic Falls. She's always curious enough to focus on the wrong things, and that's probably going to get her into trouble one day.

"I've always heard that Mystic Falls is a rather ... idyllic little town."

Damon stares at her like she's lost her damn marbles. He folds his arms across his chest as he tilts his head to the side, staring at her.

"You've heard the opposite of the truth then, and your brother was a big part of disrupting the peace, spilling blood of people Elena loves." Adding to the people she has to grieve over. Damon did the same. He doesn't absolve himself at all. "Of Elena herself."

And that's why he doesn't trust her or her family, that's why he doesn't rely wholly on this agreement between the two of them.

"That's just the start, of course, but my worries aren't off base."

Freya isn't blind to the accusation, and she certainly doesn't absolve her brother of his crimes either. But it's clear that she's Team Klaus, and she will always stand by her family's side. For better or for worse.

"Are you expecting to shock me with my brother's misdeeds? Do you assume that I haven't seen them for myself?"

"No. But if you're so aware of what your brother has done, you will know why I don't completely trust that he is keeping his end of the bargain," Damon says, because he has trust their family before, and it has wound up in Elena being dead and their being betrayed.

He won't make that mistake again.

She sighs in acknowledgement because she can't deny that statement either. And while she doesn't know Damon well, she'd like to think there's at least some good will between them or he would have attacked her already.

"Do you trust me?"

"...no. You shouldn't trust me either," Damon says. "I know you've been asleep for awhile, but trust is a commodity. You don't hand it out to anyone unless they've earned it, and even then..."

It's important to always have one's guard up.

She almost laughs, though she manages to hold it back just enough to not make him angry. That doesn't stop the twist of the corner of her mouth, just barely smothering the smirk in question. "For someone who dislikes him so strongly, it amazes me at times how alike you and my brother are."

Damon makes the biggest face now, and if he wasn't so flabbergasted by that statement, he might actually get really pissed.

"I think I'm going to be sick."

Gross.

She laughs again, before shaking her head. "You fiercely protect those that matter for you and trust no one except yourself to do the job properly. And as always, it needs to be your way. Am I close?"
