Who: "Pidge Gunderson" and you
Where: Capital building, seedy underground resistance meeting places
When: Over the course of the event
Rating: PG-13ish
Summary: Pidge Gunderson is the IT guy in a Genoshan government building and absolutely a mutant. Sort of a weird guy, kind of a loner, but definitely not human. Look at all his powers! Also definitely not that missing human terrorist Katie Holt, I mean, she's a girl and a human, and Pidge is neither of those. Obviously.
The Story:
Work
[Pidge isn't an extremely powerful mutant, but he can fly and is surprisingly strong for his size, and besides, he's smart. It was enough to get him an IT job with the government where he works, looking extremely snappy, doing mostly stuff with computers. He keeps to himself and tends to try and avoid staff get togethers whenever he can, claiming to be busy, but sometimes he can't avoid people. Sometimes there are staff get-togethers he can't beg off and he ends up having to make awkward smalltalk and act like he cares about the lives of his coworkers.
Sometimes he is trying very hard to avoid people and ends up in places he shouldn't be, which is difficult to explain. But you know, got to fix those computers. That's the only reason he could possibly be here, right?]
Cafe
[Despite being absolutely undeniably a mutant, Pidge's favorite cafe is one that caters to mutants and humans. It has the best coffee in town. He can be found there pretty frequently, working on his laptop and looking very much like he doesn't want to be bothered. He is a regular, though, so there are certainly people he's run into before. Maybe he won't be entirely hostile if you wait til he has his coffee to bother him.]
RESISTANCE
[It's late at night, and Katie leaves the gear that allows her to fly and lift heavy items behind as she sneaks off to her meeting with the resistance. Here she can be herself, and meet with people that agree with her. There needs to be a change in the Genoshan regime. The Queen needs to go down.
And hopefully, some of the intel she's gathered in her day job can help them get there.]

work, 8/5
It's been another day of meetings and debates and mutant-human concerns - they might be small, and thirteen years old hardly qualifies them to be a legal adult, but they're determined and they've got ways of rolling back the clock until they say the right phrases that get the desired result. But they can only take so much socializing before prolonged human or mutant interaction starts to leave them exhausted, so they slip downstairs for a little while, into one of the basement areas.
They don't expect to find someone else down there with them, much less someone dressed in the same sharp, professional manner, and Frisk startles.]
Oh! S-sorry, um - I didn't know anyone else was down here.

She does think the kid has generally good intentions. It's just that good intentions can't solve this. She's also pretty sure they have about zero actual power to influence anything on either side, so the fact that she is definitely currently not supposed to be here and has data downloading directly from the servers onto a thumb drive hidden behind her probably won't be an issue. That being said, she doesn't want to press her luck.]
What are you doing down here?
[Maybe she can make them believe she's supposed to be here.]
no subject
[They peer closer. This person certainly...looks like an employee of some sort. And Frisk isn't really supposed to be down here, even if their position allows them a certain amount of leeway.]
I just needed to get away, for a little bit. Get some space?
[But hold on, this goes both ways. Their expression knits into a little frown as they tip their head to one side, non-accusatory but certainly curious:]
What are you doing down here?
no subject
I'm working.
[The best lies have kernels in them. She is working, just not for her employer.]
Do you have any idea how hard people bitch when the servers go down? If I don't fix them asap I'll get to spend the whole weekend getting messages complaining about it.
no subject
[Frisk says it with the same polite neutrality with which they address some of their more difficult political prospects, those more inclined to anger or harsh language. They shrug their shoulders faintly, head to one side.]
I didn't see anyone complaining upstairs, but...I'm not an engineer.
no subject
[Poorly, she imagines.]
no subject
[They try to keep any kind of defensive note out of their voice as they fold their arms, not really a fan of the disparaging tone.]
We've prevented the Genoshan government from passing two anti-human discriminatory bills in the past week alone. They would have legitimized human fatalities in mutant-only sectors as opposed to lawful judgment.
no subject
[She shouldn't act so bitter. She should get a hold of herself. If she comes out as too pro-human she could blow her cover. But she can't help the sarcasm. As much as preventing that bill is a good thing, it does nothing towards solving the problem. The fatalities will still happen and punishments will be light if they exist at all. Mutant-only sectors still exist.]
no subject
[Their expression is controlled and neutral, though they have to bite back a more stinging retort. Resort to vague platitudes. Remain impartial. Remain...unruffled.
If they can perceive weakness, they will attack. It is best not to let them perceive weakness.]
no subject
Right. Keep up the good work.
[And she'll bring the country to its knees while they're wasting their time going about things diplomatically.]
no subject
[Ever impartial, Frisk leans against the nearest wall, and shrugs noncommittally.]
You prefer more direct action.
[It's less of a question and more of an observation. The benefits of being quiet and reserved and watchful - observation remains one of their most refined traits.]
no subject
[Especially not for humans, but the sentiment is common enough among mutants that she can probably get away with it.]
no subject
[Frisk inclines their head slightly. Their eyes rove over the banks of monitors and technology they can't put a name to.]
These servers must require an awful lot of maintenance.
no subject
[All true. Her actual work here could certainly be a full time job. But she is happy to put in the overtime to get the extra espionage done.]
no subject
So they default to the polite and professional.][Best to play it safe, after all. They'd know too well.]
CAFE;
it's up for debate whether Peridot has lost sight of that bigger picture or not, but she's still here and still consistently competing with "Katie," despite the fact that neither of them really overlap that much with their skillsets.
She's currently in the cafe too, parked several tables away, clicking away on her laptop. Once "Pidge" is settled, she opens an IM window and sends a message.]
You're at least five minutes off from your normal arrival time. Bad day at the office?
no subject
Every day's a bad day at work. Why are you keeping track?
[STOP BEING A STALKER PERIDOT.]
no subject
Consistency isn't noticed. It becomes a part of the consciousness and is blatantly ignored like the uneven striations on the wallpaper here. When you're inconsistent, it breaks the pattern and people stop to pay attention.
[she, at this moment, takes the time to sip her coffee dramatically, despite knowing Pidge will not be looking at her.]
no subject
And too much consistency is just as suspicious. You start to look like a robot. I know they say mistakes are human but unless you have a punctuality mutation, being five minutes off your routine is normal. Otherwise it might look like I'm trying too hard.
no subject
Whatever you say. You're the great spy, after all.
no subject
Not jealous are you? I mean I do get the best gadgets.....
[It's a good thing she's a damn good hacker. This is sensitive information here that could get her very dead. But she secured the channel herself.]
no subject
[she said seething in jealousy] I just use my reach to fund other projects. Not play with toys.
no subject
Yeah? Well I just got new boots. I guess I won't let you try the old ones then.
no subject
I'm willing to go through every furnace and garbage can in this city to find the remains of your old ones if you don't. Do you want me to be that creepy?

Work
He yawns when he hears the door open and waves absently over his computer at Pidge.]
Yo.
[Kay doesn't belong here and he doubts the authorities will be pleased to know that a human sneaked into the building. But acting casual should help him get out without raising suspicion. It's not like an employee would know every other employee.
With his other hand hidden by the monitor, Kay ejects the USB he was using and slips it into his sweater's pocket. It's time to go. While Kay hadn't finished finding the files he'd wanted, searching for them now would involve more risk than the reward warrants. The virus he's installed on it should help with that anyway.]
sorry I'm a million years late!
Oh well, it's not like she really cares who screws with the company.]
Sooo what are you stealing?
[Okay, so she doesn't care too much about attempting subtle.]
No worries! :)
Just some employee records.
[He picks up his coffee and takes a sip, eying Pidge curiously.] What are you up to?
no subject
no subject
And yet you're not telling anyone about this. That's not really typical employee behavior.
